Taking 'Christmas' Out of Holiday Jingles

Recommended Posts

Either get rid of ALL religious trash, or allow it all, but picking and choosing is both unfair, and intolerable.

It should all be allowed, as long as it doesn't violate criminal laws (ex. no killing other people for religous reasons). People from other religions should have every right to promote or celebrate their own customs. I'm not trying to prevent that. I am not expecting people to agree with my views, but I do ask that they tolerate them. Those rights are protected. For the most part, people from other religions agree with me. All of the Jews, Muslims & Buddhists I know agree with this. The big problem comes from atheists, who tend to feel that all religion is bad and attack it like a reverse Inquisition. Last I heard, the Constitution calls for freedom of religion, not abolishment of it. Obviously, this isn't the case with all of you, but it is a large enough problem that it is noticeable.

More evidence that the absolute worst thing you can be in America is

1)  White

2)  Christian

3)  Heterosexual

4)  Male

*zzzzzzzzz*

Don't even start with this tired old rhetoric again. :spank:

Ok. It is worse to be a young, male Muslim living in America. That doesn't change the fact that white Christian males tend to get the blame from the leftist media for the cause of most of the problems in society. Being Christian is probably the worst of those traits as it is the one that can be chosen. These days you can't even so much as mention Christmas or Easter, despite the fact that they are still federal holidays, without the atheists getting up in arms about it. Being Canadian where race isn't really a big issue, with the exception of Native Americans, it is really noticeable in the US media. Many of your 'leaders' seem to come close to flat out stating that all whites are racist, all men are sexist, all heterosexuals are homophobes, and all Christians are child rapists and anti-eveything that isn't Christian.

It is simpler in Canada, which can be summed as French = Good and English = Bad. But the English population is so overwhelming in Canada, that we basically stopped giving a shit and do our own thing anyways.

I'm 100% for freedom of religion and freedom to not practice religion, but by now it just seems like there are a lot of curmudgeons out there would just want to ruin other people's fun.

Does it really hurt anyone to have a Christmas tree in public or to sing carols or to light menorahs in public. This country has gotten way off track in what battles it chooses to fight IMO.

I am borderline atheist, more agnostic I guess, and I don't care who celebrates what really. It doesn't in anyway infringe on what I believe nor make me feel insecure in myself and my beliefs. As far as issues like "In god we trust" on the money and/or the Pledge/god thing, it isn't that I am BOTHERED that it mentions god, however what does bother me is that it is just kind of implied automatically assuming what "WE" believe, which is stupid because how do we define "we"....(does that make sense?) Now there are limits of course, to what I could be tolerate of, I mean if my neighbor was outside sacrificing a virgin to appease his Lord Doo-Nam-Wu-Da, then yeah I might have to go ahead and call 9-1-1.....

LOL FREEDOM OF RELIGION NOT FREEDOM FROM RELIGION.

Generally, laws state that public places can have as many religious symbols they like as long as they include just as many non-religious, secular holiday symbols.

What if that virgin was, say, Kamui?

Eh. I don't really consider Christmas a Christian holiday. Some people do, and that's fine with me. Like most holidays, it's just an amalgam of several festivals.

America is starting to suck, with suckasses like these. America has so much, and its not putting they're freedoms to good use, ya feel me? Why? Why? I hear about homosexuals on one page, and now PMS music teachers(who may be Jewish) changing Christmas to Winter. Christmas is awesome, but it was born around Christ, not that fat fuck Santa. If you replace Christmas with winter, than you should just wipe your ass with that song. I'm sick of people who celebrate Christmas, who call it X-Mas, and now Winter. Christmas is for Christians. Atheists and Other, get your own Holiday. Is Haunakah not good enough for you? You get 8 Freakin' presents! What about Atheist Day on April 1st? You guys can give each other gifts on that day if you want to.

So uhh...happy Festivus?

I was thinking the same thing.

I am deeply offended by that --- and as soon as I do enough thorough research, I'll tell you why and explain why it should be illegal.

Man, I love this whole state of affairs.

Christmas is not just for Christians. And might I add that you're coming off as a wee bit fanatical.

No, but how would you like it if, say . . . we had Liberals Day. And after years of this, someone came along and decided striking the word "Liberal" out of everything surrounding the holiday, and declared that Liberals Day was now a celebration for the severe Right as well, and the word "Liberal" couldn't be used anymore because it *might* be offensive to *someone* out there.

Now, that's kind of ridiculous, but the point is there. Christmas, as it is now in our culture, isn't celebrated only by Christians. But it isn't right to start disrespecting that part of it's roots, and those who are now connected to those roots.

But respecting a people group that's no longer "popular" seems to be out of the question these days.

You must not have read my first post in this thread. Here is your chance.

While it is indeed an amalgam of a few different things (a pagan festival of harvest that the church centered it's celebration around to gain attention, right?), it's traditionally become a celebration of Christ's birth (even though he was probably born more in the summer months).

I dunno. At the end of the day, we're kind of unaffected. We'll celebrate regardless. Getting worked up over word usage is kind of pointless, even if the blatant disrespect is aggravating.

Exactly. If you wanna celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas, go ahead. If you don't, that's cool too.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA!

The Christmas tree is in celebration of Christ???? Then what the hell am I doing celebrating Christmas????

It's a damn tree, not only that but it's a damn tree that doesn't grow in Israel I would guess. Then again, maybe Jesus was born under a pine tree to a man with a long white beard who kept asking for his ho.

Unless the tree says "Happy Birthday Jesus" then grow up. It's a tree with little ornaments and sparkle lights because kids like to look at shining and flashing things. It is about as religious as a bottle of Polo Sport.

What is next? Cancelling Christmas break because it celebrates religion??? Just freakin stop already. We are PC enough thank you very much.

I believe the Christmas Tree actually has pagan origins. I don't see how it's associated with Jesus (besides the star).

Right after I'm done with the hippies and tree-huggers.

Aren't they basically the same thing?

No. Hippies are dirty, lazy, unworking slugs that serve no use.

Tree-huggers are GreenPeace, PETA and their ilk that believe an animal/vegetable/forest is above human life and perform terrorist actions against humans such as spiking trees or setting fire to buildings. My uncle and his friend (who I met a few times) was killed when the saw when hit the spike and shattered metal pierced his body.

These people I would off without a care in the world.

Edit: Watch the Penn & Teller: Bullshit episode that will be on this week on Showtime about GreenPeace etc and they even interview the founder. You will get plenty of insight.

As I posted earlier, the tree is not even a Christian symbol. It was a Pagan symbol.

If idiots are going to get offended about stuff, I wish they'd get a clue as to what they're actually offended by.

Can you explain the concept of "spiking trees", please?

Eco terrorists will drive spikes anywhere from six inches to two feet long into trees that will be logged. Chainsaws used to cut the trees or the circular saws at the mills are not only ruined by the spikes, but they're shot out (usually as shrapnel) when the spikes are hit and kill people around them.
