Guest Anglesault Report post Posted December 12, 2003 We all know some great rivalry, that do to the structure of the leagues, will never ever be able to face each other in the championship of that sport. Which one do you think is the greatest of these rivalries that can neevr have a true "blow off?" Keep in mind, I don't mean a rivalry between for example, a bottom dweller in the AL and a bottom dweller in the NL where is is actually possible for them to play a world series. I mean two AL teams, two AFC teams, you get the drift.
the max 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Well, Red Sox v. Yankees can only be blown off in the LCS, so I guess that fits. Ottawa v. Toronto, Colorado v. Detroit, Boston v. Montreal
Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Given how the biggest rivalries in sports are typically within team divisions, pretty much all of them

Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Although its lost much of it's luster the last few years I would say Rangers/Islanders is up there. Whether it be Garden fans chanting "Potvin Sucks" Or "We want Fish Sticks" or Even Islander fans chanting "1940" Oh wait they havent said that in a while. Nevermind

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Packers and Bears could've been the NFC Championship matchup in 2001. The things that could've been... So which rivals CAN face in the finals? Lakers-Celtics? Dodgers-Yankees? Those were only the finals matchups for what, a million billion years.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 I think a better title would be that CAN face off, since most of the time like someone pointed out they are in the same division. Bills-Dolphins and Broncos-Cheifs are pretty big ones from recent past. Pale in comparison to the other ones mentioned though.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted December 12, 2003 For you it did. I had fun. Yankees/Giants would be good because of the history and that it spans the country.
Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Speaking as a Met Fan, I honestly do not think that the 2000 series sucked. It was an exciting hard fought series and if not for Armondo Fuckin Benitez blowing Game 1 I think the Mets actually had a good shot at winning the Series. Once they lost Game 1 I knew the Series was over but they were all exciting close hard fought games.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 The games weren't bad, but I couldn't shake the feeling I was watching second rate teams. The Mets were only there because the Cardinals pitching staff collapsed historically.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 I actually loved the subway series, but not for any good reason. My roommate at college was a NY douchebag of the "Well at least either way I still win", and he didn't even know who Chili Davis was the year before when he was starting DH for them. Making him a poser, as well as a douche. So I got a good month of torturing him out of the subway series.
Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted December 12, 2003 I hate people like that. "I'm a New York fan" Bullshit. I would say 90% of the Yankee fans i know would root whole heartedly against the Mets if the Mets made the Series and the Yankees didnt. And vice versa. razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins - during one season the only win the Cowboys had was against the Redskins. Raiders vs Cheifs - Marcus Allen is a trader Spurs vs Lakers - when the Spurs did beat the Lakers they became the 2 times 2 times NBA Champion.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 How 'bout the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, or the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers? I think Toronto-Montreal was a better rivalry when the Leafs were in the West. Back in the days of old divisions, every matchup was a rivalry. Chicago/Minnesota Chicago/Toronto Chicago/Detroit Chicago/St. Louis Now the Stars are in Dallas, the Leafs are in the Eastern Conference, the Red Wings have replaced the Hawks with the Avs as the primary rival, and the Blues are basically all the Hawks have left. As for the Habs, Montreal-Quebec City is gone, and I've heard Montreal-Boston isn't as big as it was before.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Packers and Bears could've been the NFC Championship matchup in 2001. The things that could've been... Yeah, a 38-0 victory and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVI would have been nice.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 How 'bout the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, or the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers? I think Toronto-Montreal was a better rivalry when the Leafs were in the West. True dat. They try to recreate the old magic every time they show it on Hockey Night In Canada, but it's just not the same. It'd probably take them meeting in a conference final to even approach what it used to be...and it still wouldn't be close to where they were in, say, 1993. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Packers and Bears could've been the NFC Championship matchup in 2001. The things that could've been... Yeah, a 38-0 victory and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVI would have been nice. Oh please. With the stakes that high, in the old Soldier Field, that would be the Packers' demise. I maintain that had Urlacher, Miller, and the boys recorded a new Super Bowl Shuffle, victory would've been ours.
Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Other feuds, Lakers vs Spurs, Lakers vs Mavericks, Heat vs Knicks(Playoff Brawl) Kings vs. Lakers is a much bigger rivalry, and as big a Kings fan as I am (and as much as I HATE the Lakers), I wouldn't consider that to be one of the "greatest" rivalries, either. Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted December 12, 2003 Yeah as far as Big Rivalry goes I have to go with Boston/Lakers although I wish Bird and the Celts could have come out on top more often
