I'm being serious........

Recommended Posts

Well not every conference has a championship. So why should it count for so much? Why should it penalize 3 conferences when the others don't have to worry about it?

I've heard everyone going bonkers over the BSC rankings. Well, how about questioning the 2 other polls?

Maybe they are the ones that are fucked up. They're totally subjective after all. I'd like to hear more comments along the lines of "Oh man, can you believe those AP morons? Wow, they screwed up the poll, this is an outrage! Oklahoma should still be 1 or 2...USC doesn't deserve to be moved up to No. 1."

I know where your coming from Dama, I had to put up with that being a Ohio State fan (I don't mind the criticism THIS year however; OSU was not much without Clarrett and Mich. was the better team).

Yeah I'm not really an OSU fan but I don't try to put them down at every chance I get nor do I respond to there fans with condescending and asshole comments. It's fine for people to not like OU. But to say that they suck or to act like they suck is just ludicrous since they are far from it.

College football is a popularity contest, there is no true champion. It's fixed to see what team can draw for the bowl game and to get the most profits from the sponcers & networks.

Which explains the favoritism to Florida St., one of the worst traveling big name teams out there.

It's just your typical media bandwagon jumping. It happens with everything.

You had everyone saying the Rams were going to destroy the Patriots a few years ago, ignoring the obvious Ram flaws, and then after the Patriots won you had all the same guys coming on tv saying they knew it all along.

Just look at this years MLB playoffs and WS and you'll see the exact same thing.

So I'm getting that the general consensus is that the media just hates everyone that's good unless they deem them worthy. God that's stupid.

Oh and.......who here believes in jinxing a team? And bad karma and all of that? I know it's silly sports superstition but it's still fun. Like when OU scored that first touchdown against K-State so easily I said "Looks like it's going to be another one of those games." I jinxed us dammit! I wonder how many other people in America said the same thing when OU scored?

There are 3 big football curses:

The Campbell's Chunky Soup commercial:

This is the most severe as it's a career killer in some cases. Every guy to appear in one of these commercials suffers a severe injury shortly after.

The Madden cover curse:

The player that appears on a cover usually misses time due to injury that season. George, Culpepper, Faulk and Vick have all had it happen. I don't remember who appeared on the covers before this so I don't know how far it goes back.

The SI cover curse:

If you make the cover of SI you typically lose the very next game. See Chiefs, Kansas City.

Am I the only person who thinks the SI curse is nonsense? SI prints over 50 covers a year. OF COURSE sometimes the teams will slide after making the cover. Its simple probability.

The SI cover curse, IMO, is overrated when compared to the fact that the Campbell's and Madden curses are potential career killers.

Is there a "Fan jinxing you" curse? Or is that just a myth?

Supposedly the Cubs were cursed by a fan and his goat.

Otherwise, I don't know of any fan curses that worked.

I don't mean like that.

I mean is there a superstition that goes around that if you are like "They're winning...no doubt about it." Karma will bite you in the ass. Basically......is there a curse when everyone counts there chickens before they hatch?

Well I'm sure there is. I mean Minnesota Vikings in like 1999 or somewhere like that was undefeated, and their game against Tampa Bay when the Bucs werent that good was a foregone conclusion of Vikings winning.... and look what happened.

Damn OU beating K-State being a foregone conclusion.........DAMN YOU FOOTBALL GODS! *shakes fist at endzone*

Anyways......I have learned my lesson. It is never a foregone conclusion that you are winning......unless you're facing Baylor.

Doesn't count as a curse, but almost no announcer will actually use the term "no hitter" or "perfect game" in the midst of one.

It's fixed. Have prove of that. Also no true champions? Tell that to Ohio St last year, or maybe Notre Dame in 1988. There's plenty of other teams who aren't true champions.

Losing late is different than losing the conference title game by 4 SCORES.

It's just one loss to a top 20 team, which still blows out a loss to, well, CAL.

To clairfy since you all have short term memories

CAL was not a horrible team. They had an extremely tough schedule with K-State (who they lost to by LESS than OU) Utah, Southern Miss (who CAL defeated 34-2), and Colorado St. Of those four, ALL of them are in a bowl game. And Cal's biggest loss was 14 points. THEY DIDN'T SUCK for god sake.

Not to mention, CAL is in a bowl game against Va Tech with a record of 7-6.

Jesus Christ, you people are treating CAL like they didn't win a freakin game! CAL may not have been Kansas St, but it took them overtime to take down USC. And I'll even go as far as to say if CAL was in the WEAK Big 12 (please, four real good teams out of 12) then they would have been ranked in the top 25 since the Big 12 seems to be guaranteed the top 25 with its top 6 teams.

The Big 12 schedules weak cause they know computers and sports writers will give their overrated conference a high s.o.s. because it has 12 teams.

All three of these teams were equal and really, I'm tired of people treating it like you can say this team was better than that team cause of this loss or this team deserves to go because of this or so on and so forth.

They all three deserved to go but when you leave the #1 team in the nation out then of course you can some things that need to be discussed.

Oh and the CAL loss? USC paid for it, they dropped well down and had to pull themselves back up. You can't punish a team twice for a loss to a bowl team. Only Div I college football could come up with something as stupid and childish as the BCS.

I'm off to watch Delaware vs Wofford in a *GASP* Division II PLAYOFF game. MY GOD! What a concept!

Oh I heard Jason White on ESPN radio today. They asked him if he had an excuse for why they lost to K-State. His excuse

"We flat out got beat."

Well it's good to know that he's not going to try to make any excuses. That's for his fans to do. :)

eh it took Cal three overtimes to beat USC.... thats a little different than the game ending in four quarters by four scores to KSU.

It's still losing to CAL as opposed to KSU.

To clairfy since you all have short term memories

CAL was not a horrible team.

They were severely mediocre.

They had an extremely tough schedule with K-State (who they lost to by LESS than OU)

Still lost 6 times as many games.

Utah, Southern Miss (who CAL defeated 34-2), and Colorado St. Of those four, ALL of them are in a bowl game. And Cal's biggest loss was 14 points. THEY DIDN'T SUCK for god sake.

OK, how many teams make bowl games? Half of ALL 1-A teams? Making a bowl does not mean you're good. OU played a tougher schedule.

Not to mention, CAL is in a bowl game against Va Tech with a record of 7-6.

OR, in other words, if they DIDN'T beat USC --- CAL wouldn't have MADE a bowl game.

World of difference in losing to a top 20 team and being the team that PUT another team in a bowl in the first place.

Jesus Christ, you people are treating CAL like they didn't win a freakin game! CAL may not have been Kansas St, but it took them overtime to take down USC. And I'll even go as far as to say if CAL was in the WEAK Big 12 (please, four real good teams out of 12)

Please tell me a PAC-10 apologist is not calling ANY conference in America "weak".

Oh, you CANNOT be serious.

then they would have been ranked in the top 25 since the Big 12 seems to be guaranteed the top 25 with its top 6 teams.

Seeing as how the Big 12 is up there with the SEC in quality --- they deserve it. Heck, put USC in the SEC or Big 12 and they have more than 1 loss.

The Big 12 schedules weak cause they know computers and sports writers will give their overrated conference a high s.o.s. because it has 12 teams.

Yeah, THAT is the reason. You know, if you were arguing the Big 10 does this, you might have a point.

All three of these teams were equal and really, I'm tired of people treating it like you can say this team was better than that team cause of this loss or this team deserves to go because of this or so on and so forth.

They all three deserved to go but when you leave the #1 team in the nation out then of course you can some things that need to be discussed.

USC isn't #1. They're #1 to writers (who have hard-ons for teams who lose early but not late) and coaches (who have other things to do then watch EVERY TEAM IN AMERICA play and decide who is better).

In the BCS, they are #3.

Oh and the CAL loss? USC paid for it, they dropped well down and had to pull themselves back up. You can't punish a team twice for a loss to a bowl team.

You have 3 teams with one loss.

Two lost to ranked teams.

One didn't.

Who do YOU put in the big game?

Fact is, the only reason USC is #1 in the polls and not LSU is because USC had a better team LAST SEASON and so they got ranked higher in the preseason polls, which is complete bullshit of course.

People seem to forget WHY the BCS was created --- partially to deal with the problems of exclusive bowl deal with conferences AND partially because the polls tended to make NO damned sense and were a huge problem.

I'd rather a computer pick the national champ over a hack writer or a coach who doesn't honestly give a damn.
