Best Moment in Sports in 2003?

Recommended Posts

I think by far, the best moment in sports this year is the MLB playoffs in particular the Red Sox-Yankees ALCS. Every team had a story and there were some mind blowing games. Red Sox-Yankees was easily better than any World Series in the past ten years, even though the wrong team won. Cubs-Marlins and Marlins-Giants also made for damn good television. The worst series I thought was actually Yankees-Marlins, totally underwhelming and made for boring television.

Best feel good moments were the reemergance of the Bengals and Royals. Two teams that were thought to be forever in the shitter of their leagues, with the help of two great managers have playoff hopes for the 1st time in ten years.

Funniest sports moments of the year: I gotta go with the Tigers, despite what their record says they are the worst team of all time (OK the 1899 Cleveland Spiders were worse, but does anybody really remember watching them play). Despite being god awful those guys were hillarious to watch and always tried to go out there and get a win even though they rarely had a snowball chance in hell.

Honorable mention: Can't say the Best moments in sports in 2003 without mentioning Carmelo and LeBron, the potential saviors of the NBA. These guys are one of the sole bright spots in a poor league. I also got to give a shout out to the Canadians-Oilers outdoors game, a fun and fresh (Yeah I know Michigan and Michigan State played an outdoors game but who cares about NCAA hockey) idea that was shunned by ESPN, who have about as much knowledge about hockey as me.

Best moment of my sports year: Hakim Warrick coming out of nowhere to swat away Michael Lee's jumper from the corner, finally giving Syracuse and Jim Boeheim a national championship.

Honourable mention: Carlos Delgado becomes the 15th player in major league history to hit four home runs in a game, against Tampa Bay in the final week of the season.

Aaron Boone's homerun was unquestionably the moment of the year in sports to me. Honourable mentions to Vitali Klitschko's gutsy, star-making performance against Lennox Lewis, Mike Weir's great playoff win at the Masters, and Lance Armstrong's record-tying Tour De France victory.

Best moment of the year for me........OU losing to K-State.

It was the final thing that made me realize I was a big time football mark now. Because I was so into that game and so angry that I thought I would die.

It is what pushed me over the edge. And I'm actually thankful for it. God bless K-State for schooling my team.
