The Dames' Diatribe on WWE Raw - 12/15

Recommended Posts

I think you were too harsh on Foley. They are working towards something. Let the fucking angle play out.

Other than that, good stuff.

Well Dames did praise the writers for actually planning ahead with the Foley storyline, so I don't think he was being too harsh.

Good read but one question...

What's the difference between an axe kick and a scissors kick?

Apparently, J.R. doesn't know the difference either.

I've always thought the axe kick is what Booker T has been doing all this time which the scissors kick is more like the bicycle kick that A-Train does once in a while.

I feel Goldberg destroyed any overness La Res might have had from their confrontation with The Rock last week. Rock and Foley put over their offense last week, and Goldberg destroyed them without much effort. It's almost like whenever Rock puts someone over (or tries to) the WWE has to screw it up. Ah well, "The Rock giveth, the WWE taketh away." Personally, I would've have had the Frenchies cost Foley the match. This would've put everyone over.

I also have a feeling that Heidenreich is being punished for something. Not that I mind. I like Rico and Jackie.

Probably for hurting Steven Richards with his finisher two weeks in a row.

It's so obvious that Foley will be back as Cactus Jack in two weeks' time. Whilst they didn't deliver the Orton/Foley match which no doubt pissed a lot of viewers off, it gave Orton an incredible amount of extra heat and will make the return of Cactus Jack oh so much more special.

Cept when Foley gets pinned 1-2-3 by Orton in the middle of the ring after making them wait two weeks. Just delaying pissing off the fans.

On topic again, amusing review with solid recaps of the matches Dames. I think it's also very impressive you have reminded cool and calm in the face of another Triple H title run and him giving a title shot to that rookie Shawn Michaels.

Also

Axe Kick is the kick where he only comes down with one leg and lands standing up while the scissors kick is basically the same move only he hits the mat with his legs which makes it look like more force is put into the move.

My understanding was...

An axe kick is where the striking leg acts as an axe - literally hitting the back of the neck, as in a decapitation.

A scissors kick is like a pair of scissors - one leg above, and one below the neck, with the attacker bringing their body down after the kick as a kind of second attack.

Sorta, only the bottom leg actually makes no contact.

Kind of. The top leg strikes the back of the neck, and as the person taking the move falls, the attacker goes down too, and their throat falls on the attacker's bottom leg.

I could be wrong though, and it could just be that the bottom leg should make contact at the same time as the top, but doesn't/

I still can't get over Dames' apparent love of RVD's selling that lasted all of a few moments. Yes, the figure four and Triple H's attack on the leg were working well but it all went out the window as soon as Batista and Flair (the 'master' of working the knee didn't go to it once?) got into the ring. And then RVD turns the tide with a spin kick and hardly limps the rest of the match as he tosses a plancha at the tag champs.

My main problem with the Foley bait and switch was that it was the MAIN EVENT. Why couldn't have they done this earler? Especially with no RAW next week to build this up. They should have done the bait and switch earlier and then had a Main Event. But I am sure it wouldn't have made up for the other terrible shit on the show though. The handicap match was the best match of the week(I agree with dames on that). So hopefully the storylines that they started last night end up being something that actually has a point or doesn't get fucked off at the last second.

My Opinion: Who the hell decided this match should be on Raw? Keep it on Heat, where it belongs. Neither guy has heat (or at least, the kind of heat you should have) and this match sucked the life out of the crowd. Jon Heidenreich doesn’t deserve to be on my TV screen and neither does Rico with his stupid, silly gimmick.

If you don’t understand what I’m saying WWE, pay attention. GET THEM OFF MY TV SCREEN! 1/2* and that’s ALL on Rico.

Rico rules. He works with a guy no one gives a shit about (note the boring chants) so give him a fucking break. I didn't like the gay gimmick at first either and then I realized the importance of it and accepted it. Don't you see its all he's got left (unless they magically come up with a better gimmick somehow) and he's plays it quite well. Anytime Rico makes it on RAW is great time for me. He's a very good worker and can have a nice, enjoyable match when paired with or against the right people. See: Rico & Jackie Vs. Jericho & Trish

When it comes to RVD, I'll take what I can get.

After that spin kick and the hot tag, all he did was that plancha and all the focus was on HHH & HBK. RVD could have been selling the leg after the impact. I wouldn't put money on it, but I can't dismiss that either.

While the wrestling continues to be tepid (at best) the storytelling on RAW is as solid as ever. Evolution, HBK, Goldberg, Kane, Jericho, Christian, Trish, Lita, Orton, and Foley are all in the midst of some interesting new devlopments and I can't help but be excited.

Also, there's any number of ways the show could go and already people are looking for signs that the show may be heading in one direction or another. (Orton turning soon? When will Foley get back in the ring? Will HBK face HHH at a PPV or will it be Kane?)

It wasn't even his finisher the one time. It was a simple electric chair move that was pathetically botched. Somehow, instead of simply dropping back in the move, Heidenreich just stood there as Stevie fell on his head.

Anyway, solid review, as always, by Dames. I find myself awaiting Dames reviews almost as much as I do Scott Keith's lately.

I thought the handicap match sucked. I dunno whether it was my interest (I don't care about any of the participants), the fact that they do a handicap match on every show, or the match itself (it was the match) but the whole thing was choppy. Flair was clueless, HHH was slow, Batista was both. RVD's offense is just boring and I just don't buy HBK getting beaten down or hurt cause I know it won't matter in the end since it's all forgotten about thanks to the power of the lord. The only good thing in the match were HBK's punches, which certainly don't make the match **1/2. Certainly not better than Rey/Brock or Los G's vs. Team Angle. And the only thing it established was HBK as #1 contender - which could have been done in many ways without sacrificing this "heat" Evolution is supposedly building up by holding "all the gold".

I'd like the Foley thing, but shit, JR spent the WHOLE FUCKING SHOW blabbering on about the WINNER TAKES ALL! match and they didn't even have it (not that I wanted to see it). If you aren't going to show the match, then don't spend all your effort in promoting it. That's inefficient. Do the least amount of work possible in building the match so you can spend more time building the personalities that will be effected by the impact - or just use that time, I dunno, talking about the match currently going on in the ring (FUCK JR).

My hope in their explanation is that when Foley looked into Randy Ortons eyes in the ring, he saw someone -something- that could quite possibly destroy the WWE and all the wrestlers in it. He saw a monster. He saw someone who could put everyone in the promotion on the shelf; he was that good. With every Legend Randy Orton puts away, he grows stronger. He has the athletic and genetic gifts to make him the top star in the promotion. He has surrounded himself with the top minds and talent in the world. As he kills more Legends his confidence grows, he begins to use those tools more effectively, he gains more experience. And in the wrong hands, those tools can be destructive. Foley has seen that look before, in the eyes of another young 3rd generation superstar named Rocky Miavia. The Rock, however, went through a humbling process. He was rejected and had to work his way up - learning the lessons he needed to learn to be a beneficial contributer to the business; Foley likes to think he had a hand in helping mold that young wrestler. You see, a 3rd Generation star is a rare thing - and the burden they carry is greater than the burden every other wrestler must carry - they can't just make their own name, they have to live up to the one made for them... sometimes, that obligation, that pressure, can ruin potential superstars. Randy Orton is trying to make his name by killing off others, and that's the wrong way of doing things - Foley knows this, and won't allow himself to be another victim; he won't feed the monster that Randy Orton is, and will become. So he walked away; not giving Randy the satisfaction in beating him 1-on-1 in the ring - at least, not in the shape that he is in. 1st match back, there's no way he could have beaten Orton. Orton can go around for a few weeks bragging about making Foley scared - Foley realizes that even by not wrestling, he still provided fuel for the fire; so he comes back to try and put away Orton. That's how I'd do it, cause it actually gives Orton importance.

Fucking hell, the most significant part in Randy Ortons gimmick is a throw-away sentence in an Eric Bischoff speech... THIS IS BULLSHIT! HAVE BALLS AND ACTUALLY BUILD A CHARACTER BEYOND 1 DIMENSION!

And Trish shouldn't even be talking to Jericho right now - she should immediately be slapping him and shutting the door in his face.

And they should just have a match where Jericho - in his heartbroken, somewhat suicidal, state - gets completely destroyed by Kane. Bloodied and Bruised beyond recognition and the only words coming out of his mouth are "Trish" as he is being lifted out on a stretcher. Build it up to where Jericho is physically punishing himself for emotionally hurting Trish.

Orton can go around for a few weeks bragging about making Foley scared - Foley realizes that even by not wrestling, he still provided fuel for the fire; so he comes back to try and put away Orton.  That's how I'd do it, cause it actually gives Orton importance.

This plot development makes the most sense, so I hope this is the route they are going. I would add a JR sitdown interview with Foley, possibly at home with his wife and kids. Also, I would air some segments of Foley training for the match ala Vince-Shane (although these should be much more serious in nature).

My only question is who wins? I'd personally book Foley to win - especially if this is going to happen at Wrestlemania. I realize WWE is high on Orton, and needs to build new stars, but just being involved in the feud will elevate him enormously. Go ahead and feed Orton some more "legends" that work backstage in the weeks leading up to it, but Foley is the perfect guy to put an end to the streak. At the risk of stating the obvious, he's not your typical professional wrestler. He is a scruffy, out of shape, aging man that wrestles in his street clothes ... which makes him the perfect guy for the average joe to get behind and take interest in seeing the arrogant pretty boy that is Randy Orton go down.

If they are not going to let Foley end the streak, they damn well better have a better choice in mind. I am not talking about Triple H either.

*Marks for Training Vids*

*Foley cutting down trees*

*Foley running up mountains*

*Foley powerbombing Dewey*

*Foley eating crispy creme doughnuts only to realize what he is doing, gets angry, and smashes his fist down upon the raspberry jelly-filled doughnut and gets incensed by the colour on his hands.. then licks it and smiles*

*Foley pulling a sled with his kids and wife on it*

*Foley working out in a mirror-filled weight room, only to have the image of Orton to appear and Foley throws a weight through the mirrors and yells out "OOORTOOOOOOON!" in classic, No Holds Barred fashion*

... I think this shows promise.

Foley loses to Orton, clean. Foleys departing words are to HHH saying that he won't be able to control Orton much longer and that HHH is reaching legendary status himself. Evolution can't handle Orton, the only one who can is the Rock.

Those training videos are not what I had in mind.

I would dig Rock-Orton, but they must harp on the fact that both are 3rd generation superstars and the parallels between each of their careers once Orton finally does break away from Evolution.

Anybody else find JR's over-selling of Goldberg funny?

"THAT BISCHOFF IS A JACKASS! GOLDBERG IS A PATRIOT, BAH GAWD! AND HE PLAYED FOOTBALL!"

I'm angry about the fact Foley didn't mention about the last time he paid a visit to RAW. When they gave him the hardcore title as a tirbute, and played that same video package. Afterwards, Orton kicked Foley down some stairs, but leave it to WWE to forget to play off prior incidents between a feud.
