Goldberg/HHH

Recommended Posts

From The Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter:

"Triple H's win was met with negative response, as expected, backstage among the other wrestlers. The general feeling was that Triple H used his power to get the belt off of Goldberg right when Goldberg was gaining popularity as champion."

I know that HHH is a sneaky devil but i'm not buying this. WWE HAD to get the title off Goldberg - his contract is due to expire and he's wanting more "bonuses" before he signs a new one. It makes sound sense to get the title off him considering it's possible that he may not wrestle for the company again, ever.

If this news from The Torch is true then "other wrestlers" aren't seeing the big picture at all. It's better to have HHH as champ than to have Goldberg demanding huge cash to drop the title in the future, which is a scenario if Goldberg didn't sign a new contract.

Thoughts?

I thought Goldberg's contract ended after Wrestlemania. Besides, why not give the title to Kane?

God damn it, I thought Kane was going to get it, but now he probably won't get getting another title shot until Backlash because

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

he'll be busy feuding with the Undertaker until WM.

A little more details.....

WWE gave Evolution all the gold at Armageddon as a way to push the babyface side of the RAW division. Giving all the belts to one heel group, in theory, gives the top faces something to rally around and go after. With Mick Foley and Steve Austin gone for now, the top faces seem to be Rob Van Dam, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, and possibly Chris Jericho.

Triple H's win was met with negative response, as expected, backstage among the other wrestlers. The general feeling was that Triple H used his power to get the belt off of Goldberg right when Goldberg was gaining popularity as champion.

Randy Orton's Intercontinental Title win was done to further elevate him. WWE still is planning to have him break away from Evolution at some point and have a major main event level program with Triple H.

The decision to take the belt off of Goldberg also puts some questions around the expected Goldberg/Brock Lesnar Champion vs. Champion WMXX match. The idea was to have both guys hold their belts for a long time going into 'Mania to add more meaning to the match. Now Goldberg has lost the belt and it is unknwon when or even if he will get it back.

Vince McMahon is apparently still booking most things on a month to month basis and has NOT locked in the Brock/Goldberg WMXX match.

Truthfully, I'm not opposed to Triple H having the title again. It doesn't bother me. Then again, had Goldberg retained I would've been happy too.

To me, it didn't make sense for Kane to even want the title. Why should he want it? He's a crazy monster.

Since the rest of Evolution won gold, I think HHH winning the main event was the best scenario. Then again, I don't know why Flair has gold again, so what do I know?

I wouldn't be opposed to another Shawn Michaels run. I'd rather have Chris Jericho, but Shawn Michaels would suit me just fine. He still has great matches.

I'd like to think that Goldberg is a nice enough guy to not have to worry about all the "what if" drama.

Right, does anyone see HHH jobbing to anybody on that list not named "Shawn Michaels"?

Wonderful

Evolution Vs. Rob Van Dam, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, and Chris Jericho would so fucking rock as a RAW main event.

I can't see Vince allowing Triple H to job the title to any of them. Including Shawn Michaels.

That's Orton's title and Triple H is just keeping it luke warm.

I know they are pushing Orton down everyone's throats, but I really doubt he would win the title. I don't think Trips would drop it too him anyway.......

I think he will just for the fact that Orton isn't any threat to his spot right now. Just like HBK.

I think Goldberg dropped the title because he is working the Zero-One/DSE show on Jan 4th, and he is probably jobbing in the main event. In other words, Vince didn't want his world champ to job to someone who doesn't work for WWE.

Ok fine, so Goldberg loses the title.

Fine, that I can deal with.

But you build Kane as a monster, you have Kane as possibly the top heel on RAW and then you hand the belt to Triple H???

Of course the wrestlers in the back are going to look at it negative cause it further proves to them that they really cannot advance upwards while on RAW cause the top heel will always and forever be Triple H.

If anyone should have knocked off Goldberg, it should have been Kane.

I did not know the Zero-One thing, and I totally agree with the Kane point. The arguing factor may be that Kane should get a more deserving, longer run than what he would get just picking up the title now. I feel at this point they would not give Kane a Mania Title match, thus making it a worthless run again, if he were to get the belt. However, I guess I am just non-stop bitching because the belt is just pointless now. It is just an accessory, because HHH has held it most of the time it has been there and whoever is strong enought to beat him for it, he just gets it back from.

Fuck.

That's all I have to say about that.

I doubt that to be honest. Vince hasn't had any problem jobbing out the Smackdown champion in matches over and over. And Vince probably thinks that none of the WWF fans have heard of Zero-1.

Just shows how sad RAw is thet besides Trips and Kane, the have no viable Heel champions. They should have used this opportunity to put the title on an up and coming heel until somewhere before Mania and build him up as best they could.

HHH wasn't even on TV, at least not for anything significant, in the two weeks prior to the PPV, and wasn't even the focal part of the match, which revolved more around Goldberg v. Kane.

Therefore I think it's just BAD booking to put the title on HHH (again) and only further legitimizes the belief that he's at Hoganesque levels of backstage manipulation.

The "Evolution was given all the gold to build up the babyfaces!" excuse is such bullshit, too.
