WP -- Just touring the a1wrestling.com board:

There are many WWE wrestlers who have a personal dislike for the way the brand extension has reduced the number of Pay-Per-View payoffs they receive each year. They wrestlers who used to work all 12 PPV events every year (mostly top and mid-card guys) now have the opportunity to receive a payoff from a maximum of 9 PPV events at best. However, many of the undercard wrestlers appreciate the brand extension as this has created more undercard matches on the PPVs and some even have said they they probably would have lost their jobs with the WWE if not for the brand extension.

A story making its way around the Smackdown locker room is that a Smackdown cruiserweight wrestler recently asked Vince McMahon what he could do to to better position himself for a move up the ladder within the WWE. McMahon's reply was "If only you were six feet tall and a hundred pounds heavier".

Dennis "Mideon" Knight worked a dark match before Monday's RAW. He has been contacted by the WWE about returning as a character to get involved in the Undertaker vs Kane feud in the near future.

[News derived from Jason Powell and the PWTorch]

Edge was backstage at Armageddon this past Sunday night. Edge, who lives in Florida, was visiting with friends. There is a chance that he could return to the ring in time for WrestleMania XX, but there is still a lot of talk that WWE wants to save his return as a surprise after the big event.

Brock Lesnar let WWE management know at the December 9th SmackDown taping that he did not like the idea of beating Rey Mysterio via submission in Rey’s hometown in San Diego. Mysterio did not like the idea either, but didn’t put up much of a fuss about it. Rey doesn’t mind doing jobs even if it’s in front of friends and family. The only concerns that he had was that if the crowd went home upset from him tapping out, that they would not return for a big show in San Diego, holding WWE officials accountable for the decline in attendance.

Incase you haven’t heard, the Nasty Boys and Norman Smiley were backstage at RAW this past Monday. They live in Florida so were probably there just to visit with friends.

As we approach WrestleMania XX, Bill Goldberg and the WWE will battle outside of the ring as they negotiate Goldberg's contract renewal as his current deal expires shortly after WM XX. His current 1-year deal has a downside guarantee of $1.5 million, however business hasn't allowed for him to earn much more than that. Lower-card wrestlers average $75,000 for their downside guarantee, mid-card wrestlers average $150,000, and upper-card stars range from $200,000 - 800,000. Then you have the exceptions that are far above (Goldberg, HHH, etc) and below (developmental talent) these numbers. Those who have talked to Goldberg say he's definitely interested in signing for another year with the WWE, but won't if he feels he's being taken advantage of with his new deal and has mixed feelings on how his first year has gone.

The Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, officially announced in a Press Release, that the "Royal Rumble" match will feature 15 RAW Superstars, and 15 Smackdown! Superstars, with the winner receiving a World Title shot at WrestleMania XX.

The Press Release is as follows:

WWE Brings Royal Rumble to Philadelphia

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) RAW and SMACKDOWN! brands bring the lights, cameras and an international television audience to the Wachovia Center on Sunday, January 25 at 7:45 p.m. as it hosts the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View, presented by Playstation 2, live in Philadelphia. Tickets go on sale Saturday, December 20 at 10 a.m.

The Royal Rumble is a yearly tradition dating back to 1989. 2004 marks the first time that the Pay-Per-View event will take place in Philadelphia. The Royal Rumble match features a grueling test of strength as two individuals start in the ring and every two minutes a new participant enters the ring. This match will feature 15 superstars from RAW and 15 from SMACKDOWN! There could be as many as 30 superstars in the ring at one time. The winner of the Royal Rumble secures a title shot at Wrestlemania XX in March. Additional matches will also be announced.

We are truly honored to have the WWE bring one of their major Pay-Per-View events to Wachovia Center, said Comcast-Spectacor Senior Vice President John Page. This will be one of the rare occasions when both WWE RAW and SMACKDOWN! brand superstars come together for one unbelievable night of live professional wrestling.

Tickets to WWEs Royal Rumble are $300, which includes a special commemorative take-home chair, $90, $65, $50, $35 and $25. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, December 20 at 10 a.m. and are available at the Wachovia Center box office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling (215) 336-2000 or (856) 338-9000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Group tickets can be purchased by calling (215) 389-9543.

I would have loved for this to have happened before the 1994 steroid trial.

Nice to see Ultimo Dragon get dropped off TV after 1 week and a month of hype, but fucking Mideon gets a spot for a prime fued.

Brock continues to be my favorite. More guys should speak up. Even if management doesn't change their minds at least the wrestlers give their opinions.

Yeah unless it's Goldberg then they bitch about him having an ego even if he's right.

Well, Brock didn't like the idea of beating someone by submission in their hometown.

Goldberg isn't unhappy unless he's beating the piss out of everybody, and looking strong with squash after squash.

Tiny difference between the two.

No Goldberg's unhappy when he's booked like a chump and made to lose the belt to the owner's son in law who hadn't been on TV for weeks leading up to the match.

Which is why he'll, in order to make himself feel better, order rewrites of Raw until it results in him completely squashing La Resistance, and ruining the heat they had built the week before with Foley and the Rock.

That Bill Goldberg.....what a company man.

What heat? Rock totally cut their balls off on the mike and made them look like chumps.

They were able to beat down on the Rock and Foley for a little while, until Rock and Foley came back to beat on La Resistance and make the fans happy. Still, they were able to get the advantage over two huge WWE superstars, and I think the fans realized that "Wait....maybe these guys ARE a little dangerous."

Then comes Goldberg.

But let's not try to stray from the point here. I don't think Goldberg's comments and Brock's comments are even COMPARABLE, since one did it out of selfishness, and the other did it out of respect.

I doubt the fans thought that La Resistance of all wrestlers had a chance against the Rock.

You want to talk about making someone look good watch Rock's work with the Hurricane. Now there is where the Rock helped the Hurricane.

No kidding. Never mind the fact that the brand extension has been better for business (in a way) their payoffs are lower. End the extension.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Seeing as it's 1wrestling, would any of us really be surprised if that was completely made up?

Actually, that story sounds pretty believeable. I mean, it's Vince McMahon for shits sake.

Unless they're willing to give names, it really doesn't matter. Even if it's true, it could be someone completely worthless for all we know.

Yes. That way we can get Benoit & Eddy jobbing on Velocity while HHHMania runs wild over every show. Guys like the WGTT & Rey Misterio wouldn't even be employed if it wasn't for the brand extension.

The brand extension is the only thing saving WWE at the moment. I don't think anyone wants to go back to early 2002 with HHH & Steph eating up every segment on both shows and Jericho left cleaning up dogshit (literally).

Here is something that I noticed. See how the report says top card guys. So I'm guessing it's people like HHH, UT, Austin, etc that are bitching. Because think about if the brand extension ended those would be the guys that would be main eventing all the PPVs and get most of the money. While, like you said, guys like Rey Jr. and TWGTT would hardly be on the PPV>

Exactly. The guys that are bitching are the guys that are on too much as it is.
