Uh, WTF

Recommended Posts

In the new Torch, it says that some people are saying Rockstar will make the TNA game and has offer a couple of million dollars for the budget. It also says that a toy figure company was backstage scanning wrestlers (whatever that means) for figures that will be released in June-August (it says 8 months from now). Thoughts.

Rockstar next to EA has the best marketing team there is, if anyone can make a TNA videogame do well it's them.

It's intersesting, to say the least. If anyone can make a decent wrestling engine from scratch in a few days, it's Rockstar.

Don't they come from Europe, or something? Do they even get TNA over there?

Doesn't mean Rockstar is making the game, they Publish just as much as they Develop.

Rockstar? Will you get paid more in season mode if you kill your opponent?

So, Rockstar is going to spend MILLIONS on a license with LITTLE actual value to them? And a company is going to make toys for a fed with almost no actual fan base?

You know, my BS sensor is going off the charts here. Was this a "news" column --- or one of the Torch's attempts at witty satire?

You're right in some ways, the sheets have been wrong before and it's funny this hasn't been posted on the videogame sites.

Shit would get posted there before it would any where else.

It's a big risk for Rockstar to pick them up, but who's to say Vendetta and Backyard Wrestling wern't risks as well.

And they ended up going good in terms of sells.

Can you get a 6 star heat level with the boys if you refuse to job to guys like AJ? Or is it like real life and nobody cares?

2 million is very little for a game budget. They only need to sell 40,000 copies to recoup that cost.

It would take more than that to recoup their losses. Considerably more copies sold than that.

Rockstar, if this is true, is an amazing choice. For one, it's getting to the point just the words "ROCKSTAR" on a game makes it a strong seller.

However, I'll believe this when a video gaming site announces it and not the Torch.

Also, ROCKSTAR has got to be known for taking risks. For goodness sake, Grand Theft Auto was a huge risk by them to even attempt to make that game so I can sorta buy they would attempt this.

50x40,000=2 million

Gotta take in the cost to make each unit of the game.

The 2 million I bet is more or less what they paid for the rights to use the wrestlers under contract and the TNA name.

It doesn't cover the game cost and advertising cost I bet and if it does, that means that TNA did not get a lot for their trademark.

Of course, the company doesn't keep all of the $50.

And, keep in mind, they don't have 40,000 people watching their product.

I think the game would actually sell pretty well, the LoW games were both good sellers, and this one has more familar names like Raven, Jeff Jarrett, D'Lo Brown, etc.

If it is a good wrestling game it will sell like 200k. A game has to be really shitty to sell less than 50k. Most every game sells that or more. It doesn't matter how many people watch TNA. This should expand TNA's viewing audience either way.

Keep in mind that TNA uses the guys in that game to try and boost buyrates for their show.

I don't think ECW's games sold that well.

Glen Cove, NEW YORK (March 1, 2000) - Acclaim Entertainment, (NASDAQ: AKLM), a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, announced today that ECW Hardcore Revolution climbed the video game charts in just two days to become the No. 2 selling video game on the PlayStation® game console the week of February 13-19, according to NPD TRSTS Video Games. According to the same source, the game was also No. 6 on Nintendo? 64 during the same period. ECW: Hardcore Revolution is the first video game featuring Extreme Championship Wrestling.

"We are very pleased with the initial response to ECW: Hardcore Revolution," said Vice President of Acclaim Sales, Brad Loucks. "We have already sold over 600,000 units, and have received reorders from virtually every major retailer. Additionally, we are pushing the game at the local level with autograph sessions at major retailers across the country with the most popular ECW wrestling stars."

"ECW Hardcore Revolution was the top selling PlayStation® and Nintendo 64 software product at Electronics Boutique," said Pete Roithmayr, VP of Merchandising/Video Game Division, for Electronics Boutique. "With the wrestling market still hot from the Christmas buying season, Acclaim successfully introduced an exciting new wrestling brand. ECW Hardcore Revolution clearly outperformed our expectations." [Editor's note: for a schedule of upcoming ECW autograph signings go to Acclaim.com.]

Extreme Championship Wrestling, one of the "Big 3" national federations, is widely noted as the true innovator of wrestling, combining high-risk maneuvers with adult-themed storylines. ECW is broadcast weekly on TNN Friday nights and is their #1 rated show. Additionally, it is seen by millions of fans on a nationally syndicated program.

Since some people are taking what I said and twisting it, here is exactly what it says

"The word in some circles is that Rockstar Games has offered a huge budget, with several million directed at advertising the game."

Yet, ECW owed Akklaim tons of money at the end.

And Rockstar spending millions on a title with an EXTREMELY limited audience is REAL debatable.
