USC Wuz Robbed!

BCS still screwing teams off in video games

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm playing NCAA 2K3 in the season mode as University of Illinois.

We're 5 games into the year, and our record is 5-0. We're the top ranked offense and top ranked defense. We average 90 points a game while only yielding approximately 1 point a game. Guess where BCS has us ranked?

If you said 1st, you're wrong.... listen to this. Two other teams in my conference was also ranked.... HIGHER than me.

Michigan was ranked 14th with a 2-2 record, Michigan State 16th with a 4-0 record. We were ranked an astounding 22nd. Fortunately Week 6 (our fifth game) saw Illinois go up against Michigan head-to-head. We defeated them 106-0 (Thanks to a ridiculous amount of successful onside kicks) but it only brought us up to ranked 16th....

Can we say screwjob? I can. I'm entertaining the notion of wrecking the top ranked team, Miami, by having them lose to another team, but I rather keep it pure.

Why the hell aren't you playing NCAA Football 2004?

Still has that problem that NCAA 2k4 does.

I was best in NCAA (only one loss), had the worst schedule (I played 13 of my games against top ranked teams, 12-1) and I only lost to 13-3 (record not the score) OSU because of a field goal at the last second (literially).

Do I get a bowl game for revenge against OSU because I'm the best team in the NCAA? No. I'm ranked as 12th and play some awful team I literially destroy with my star runningback in the first half (108 yards, 2TDs) and QB (178 yards, 3TDs). Game was lopsided as I destroyed them 56-0.

I really don't like the NCAA system to decide Bowl Games.

NCAA Football 2003 has been pretty good to me. Of course I created a team (starting with Defensive Genius or whatever it is that has you with an amazing defense and mediocre offense), but I'm eight seasons in with the University of the Underground Ravers, so that first group of guys is totally gone (of course, half of the team left since they were all seniors). I've gotten eight straight National Championships with seven losses over the last eight years. I took Duke's place on the national schedule, and always schedule the highest ranked available team for my non-conference games. I got to #2 in the BCS despite a 10-2 record (excruciating losses to Michigan and Oklahoma). No idea what you guys are doing wrong.

I think it might have to do with something that BCS wasn't expecting Illinois of all the teams to do that well, and therefore their preseason ranking hurt Illinois. I'm hoping, no I'm expecting that if we end up undefeated (and we do play good ranked teams along the way) that we get at least a top 5 voting nod. The funny thing is that the Media recognizes us more than the coaches does.... go figure.

Kotz, I'm not really sure either. Maybe you (or someone) can see where I go wrong.

I'm usually in very good close games. I don't usually blow out high ranked teams but get a good 24-17 victory. I usually round out very greatly in offensive output for yardage (top 20 most assurdly). My defense is pretty good, my passing defense being better than average, but my run defense being the best in the NCAA (and better than my NFL defense). My special teams is ok a little scantly on the punt return in some cases. Penatlies and turnovers never really a problem for me.

Maybe they want blowouts, but then again that doesn't apply to me, as all my wins were blowouts. Maybe they want us to be OU or Miami or something.

 I was fucking ranked DEAD LAST (or as near to it as could be). I beat 12 out of the 13 top 25 ranked teams, only losing to OSU (ranked #2) by a field goal and the game was 28-30. Right after that game, I beat Miami (ranked #1) 36-21. So how the hell do I not make it into the Top 10?

I mean I had blown out the other 3 teams I face who weren't top 25 ranked teams, so I don't know why I wasn't in the National Game.

Only thing I can figure is because my school's presitge was at * and I had only one nationally televised game.

I play the Madden series and I try to make the difficulty settings/gameplay/stats as realistic as possible -- I may lose, but the game is entertaining.

But to each is own -- I stopped counting how many times I have beaten Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Diablo II...

Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz

In some old Genesis college football game, an EA game but cant remember the name, Florida State would be ranked #1 the third week despite having an 0-3 record and lousy stats, and my 3-0 Nebraska team wouldn't be even in the top ten!

A totally accurate simulation!!! Well Done EA!!!

We played top ranked teams. However I decided to simulate the rest of the season to give myself a general idea of how I would fare in the rankings. I actually rose to #2 even losing a game. So the future is actually bright for the actual season (as I didnt save the simulations.) So far we are 7-0. ranked 9th in the nation.

Ohio State and Texas were both undefeated, but I as Auburn was ranked #1 on the BCS even with my one loss to Tennessee. But Ohio State lost in the Rose Bowl and I whooped Texas in the Championship Game so Auburn deserved to be National Champions because the BCS is a perfectly fine system. Yup.

OK, what offenses do you guys use on 2004? This is killing me. I've got Ohio State and I'm loaded at every position (also, I'm playing on All-American level). My defense leads the nation in every vital statistic (something like 175 total yards allowed per game, had a string of 11 straight shut-out quarters). My special teams are DOMINANT, with Gamble getting me about 23 yards per punt return. But my offense is just ANEMIC.

I've tried the offenses of Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida and even the Run 'n Gun. Nothing has had any longterm success. Ideas?

I normally just sling the ball out to a receiver. I usually pick a shotgun play, then I scramble til I find an open guy. Works for me all the time. As for the offensive playbook, I can't go wrong using the Tennessee playbook.

Personally, I play West Coast offense (and playbook), but hand off to the RB for a drive or two. I make 8-12 yard passing plays all the other times. It's a good offense when you get it working right.

I use the West Coast offense as well. When I start out I usually use a ball contol offense (Run Oriented, etc.) but then as my team gets more and more talented I switch to the WC to move the ball quicker. Plus that way it's a helluva lot easier to recruit 5* QB's and receivers. Then I just get the fastest RB I can find and I'm set. When I sim seasons (which I've done with my built up team) my QB gets about 3000-3500 yards and 40 TD's. And that's against SEC competition and the toughest non-conference schedule I can find.

I still need to start up a team in some middle of nowhere spot (I'm thinking Univ. of Alaska) create a cupcake, and see how long it takes me to build a team up.

I use the West Coast offense, but I run it the vast majority of the time and only pass once the defense is biting on the run big time or I'm just completely out of time to get a run game going. I have all of my no-huddle plays as run plays, my team is just THAT awesome with the run. Putting up a 300 yard game with my fullback is nothing. When I let the computer control my team they're pass-happy though. Pisses me off.
