DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 Bad Santas at Islanders Game A seemingly harmless Christmas promotion arranged by the New York Islanders turned ugly, and all because of the team's fierce rivalry with the New York Rangers. And the Rangers were nowhere near when trouble broke out. The promotion invited fans to dress up as Santa Claus for Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers and be admitted to the Nassau Coliseum for free. What's more, they were permitted to parade across the ice between periods. About 1,000 Santa Clauses showed up and as promised, they were invited on the ice after the first period. This turned out to be not such a good idea. As the Santas milled around, two of them removed their red jackets to reveal jerseys of the rival Rangers -- not a good thing to do in the home of the Islanders. Hah, let's go Rangers! And I also heard they booed the carolers (who were children), too!
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 That's insane. They're lucky to be alive.......some people get crazy over sports rivalries. *remembers what he did to the poor sap wearing an Oklahoma State shirt on the day of the Big XII championship* Yes crazy indeed....... the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 FUCK THOSE PHILADELPHIA FANS BOOING CHILDREN SINGING CHRISTMAS CAROLS! FUCKING TERRIBLE FANS! Wait, what do you mean this wasn't Philly fans? No other fans would do that. Philly fans booed a Santa 30 years ago, meaning they are responsible for everything. They would be the only ones capable of booing singing children. Sorry about that rant. I just got pissed about the ATH segment a couple days ago about bad Philly sports fan moments.

DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 A funny ancedote from a Rangers-Isles game at the inferior Nassau Mausoleum a few years ago: A young woman (in her early 20's) had an Isles jersey on. She teased the crowd like she was going to show them her breasts and took it off --- revealing a Rangers jersey, resulting in massive boos. Then she teased them again and took the Rangers jersey off to reveal another Isles jersey, to massive cheers. Too bad she didn't take the last filthy Isles jersey off. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 Its funny how no one actually shows clipped of the booing Santa incident. I think maybe they booed because it was out of place at a sporting event. Much like Destiny's Child (Philly's finest moment). Anyone catch Tony Kornhiser on PTI yesterday. He just went off and said.... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): There is no Santa Claus
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 I went to the 76ers/Magic game on 12/22, and the 76ers were doing a dress-up-as-Santa promotion, and they announced that the guy who played Santa from the Phillies game booing was there. He got a good amount of boos.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 God bless that fair minded, research doing, non-judgemental ESPN. "Maybe it was the presence of the Flyers that set off the fans. Philadelphia, remember, is where Santa was once booed in a holiday parade" From an ESPN.com article. Wow. It wasn't just one incident 30 years ago where the fans booed a drunk Santa at an Eagles game. Now it has turned into booing Santa at a holiday parade. Good work ESPN. Let's see what they can make up about Philly next time an incident happens in an entirely different city and having nothing to do with Philadelphia. Situation: Next year, fan stabs a Santa in a parking lot. "Well this was an ugly incident. Maybe it was because a guy from Philadelphia was within 500 yards of the incident. Remember the time that fans jumped out of the stands anally raped a Santa and then shot him in the head."
