2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs got 23 votes to become the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Followed by Terence Newman (Dallas) 15 votes Nick Barnett (GB) 6 votes Kevin Williams (Minn) 3 Charles Tillman (Chic) 2 Eugene Wilson (NE) 1 Meanwhile Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the year, receiving all 50 votes. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Suggs didnt even start until Sunday and he still got 12 sacks (new Ravens record) and a couple of forced fumbles. If he starts next year he probably could have the Sack Record for a season easily. And he was a good pick for the Ravens consdering their pass rush wasn't that great last year. After week one he started in a position he never played before and looked like a 2 or 3 year veteran every week...and he did so in a defense that was losing guys left and right. Wilson was also playing a position where you usually fly solo...Suggs was one of 4-5 guys always rushing the QB. I'm not taking anything away from Suggs but place him on a team where the man blocking him doesn't have to block All-Pro blitzing LBers, Safeties, and Corners along with him and he won't do nearly as well. The problem was that they were on the same team, and that team improved as a whole, not just two rookies. I remember watching the draft, and as the annual Minnesota draft pick chaos was going down, all I was thinking was "Somebody please pick Terrell Suggs before the Ravens at 10!"
