Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 ESPN.com news services The Knicks and Suns finalized a blockbuster trade Monday that will return Stephon Marbury to his hometown. The Knicks acquire Marbury and Penny Hardaway from Phoenix for Antonio McDyess, Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, the rights to Milos Vujanic, two first-round draft picks, and cash, ESPN.com has learned. The trade still requires NBA approval. The Suns will get the Knicks' first-round pick this year and a future conditional first-round pick. The trade will be the fifth of Marbury's career. The Brooklyn native was drafted by Milwaukee and immediately traded to Minnesota, where he subsequently forced a trade to New Jersey. The Nets traded him to Phoenix for Jason Kidd, and he now could be headed to the Knicks in the first major move made by new team president Isiah Thomas. The trade is a major shakeup of both teams. Phoenix, in exchange for its best player, would be gaining salary cap flexibility that would allow the Suns to rebuild a team that was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season after missing the postseason a year earlier. The contracts of McDyess and Ward expire at the end of this season, and Ward has a buyout clause that can be exercised before Jan. 10. Eisley is under contract for three more seasons; Vujanic, the starting point guard on the Yugoslavian team that won the 2002 World Championships, is playing in Europe. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 5, 2004 Marbury will put asses in the seats though. Since Chris Rock lives in NY maybe we'll see the rebirth of Little Penny commercials pumping the Knicks.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted January 5, 2004 The Knicks gave up way too much to get a broken down Hardaway and a potential headcase in Marbury.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 The KNICKS make off like bandits????? WHAT IN THE FUCKING HELL IS WRONG WITH THE COLANGELOS. For all of you who have not been noticing, when given the minutes, Hardaway has been putting up 18-20 points a game this year, he is in the best shape he has been in 5 years and is anything BUT broken down. Stephon A: Loved being in Phoenix B: Just signed his long term deal there and wanted to be there a long time. C: Was their number one scorer, assist man and arguabley the second best point guard in basketball. The FUCKING SUns, who have a 20 year old power forward to be the future of the franchise trade for a FUCKING POWER FORWARD. One who hasn't played in 3 years. They trade their two best guards for Howard Eisley and CHARLIE FUCKING WARD. The Suns, who are struggling for offense just traded away about 35 points a game, about 14 assist, and their best 3 point shooters. FUCK the Colangelos. I have watched them DESTROY team after team for these 16 years I have been a suns fan, rather it be watching steve Nash and Michael Finley in Dallas, Jason Kidd in Jersey, or them trading bo Outlaw, Dan Marlie, Rodney Rogers, Tony Delk, Cliff Robinson or various other good players to teams and making then title contenders. I guess they wanted to give Joe Johnson The ability to not worry about Penny outplaying his sorry ass every night and getting the hook. Maybe they think it will get his confidence up. Well guess what, your "future" at the 2 guard has gotten progressively WORSE as the years have gone on . HE SUCKS. ANd now you are putting the team on this fuckers back for you back court... Fuck the COLANGELOS. I will still cheer for the suns but they are really, REALLY pissing me off.
Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 I think it's great for the Suns. This year is a wash for them so no big deal. Now they got rid of Penny's contract and that hog Marbury. which means they can build around Marion and Stoudamire with all the cap space they will have next year.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 That trade is mighty lopsided. I do believe that with all the talk about moving the Nets to Brooklyn has caused the Knicks management to be doing whatever it takes to fix the Knicks.

They are (or are near) in last place of their division so it really doesn't matter.
The Fett 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 What are the conditions to the draft picks the Suns get? If it's not the Knicks lottery pick this season, the Suns gets screwed badly. If it is, it's still a bad trade for the Suns.
The Fett 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 btw, the capsapce the Suns get will mean zilch next offseason. ith the exception of Rasheed Wallace there is absolutely no free agents worth spending any money on.

Anyone that calls Marbury a hog hasn't watched him play in the past two years. If I'm not mistaken, he is number 2 in the league in assist and led this team. At times he would put them on his back and carry them. They traded away their best player without the possiblity to get anything in return for it. WHERE are they going to get a better point guard that him. Ever. They had him for the next 5 years. They had a core of Stodimire, Marbury, and Marion(who signed a extension) with Penny being a incredibly smart veteren that helped the team greatly. now they have no point guard worth shit, another Power forward to go with Stodimire, and a bunch of draft picks in what is going to be a weak draft. This year might have been a bust(and I don't think it was, they were what, 8=9 games out in the begaining of the season...that can be made up) but they just fucked the franchise for the next few YEARS with this move. Jason Kidd...I hate the guy but he's basically a Triple Double every damned night 2.) Baron Davis 3.) LeBron James 4.) Sam Cassell 5.) Stephon Marbury ok, he did crack top 5...barely over Jamal Crawford, Chauncey Billups, and Gary Payton IMO though

Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted January 5, 2004 Knicks didn't make out like bandits, they should be doing what the Suns are doing, looking ahead. All they really get is two players who've been passed around for one reason of another who would have to be at there best to make a real impact. I don't like it. Here is the finalized trade "New York acquires Marbury, Penny Hardaway, and Cezary Trybanski from Phoenix for Antonio McDyess, Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, Maciej Lampe, the rights to Milos Vujanic, two first round picks and cash." I don't know about the Knicks giving up Lampe as well
Guest cpac Report post Posted January 5, 2004 The Knicks will never get under the cap as long as they have both Houston and Van Horn on the team. So lets forget about the Knicks making room for cap space. That isn't going to happen for another couple of years like 5 years. The Knicks do finally get the pg that they have been looking for the past 10 years ever since they traded away Rod Strickland and Mark Jackson. Too bad Ewing is brokendown, late 30's and retired. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 Regardless of Kobe's court case, I see him staying with the Lakers if they win the championship. If they don't, I see him either going to Phoenix or the new North Carolina franchise building around him. It would make more sense of him to go there because the Eastern Conference really sucks and he'd be on a winning team.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 I do not recognize that name that starts with L in that point guard list. Must be an overhyped annoying commercial that was ripped out of Blues Brothers. And I can't believe the Suns would help rebuild the Knicks. I just can't believe they would do this. When did they become the Clippers for crap sake?? Must be an overhyped annoying commercial that was ripped out of Blues Brothers. Dude is playing extremely good though. Averaging 20 PPG, 6 RBP, 6.1 APG, 1.5 SPG and 0.7 BPG, definitely not bad numbers. Here's Marbury: 20.8 PPG, 3.4 RBP, 8.3 APG, 1.9 SPG, 0.2 BPG For a guy who's doing just as good, if not better then Marbury I wouldn't call him unrecognizable. The Fett 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 I don't think Kobe will even consider Phoenix, but even if he does the Suns won't have the cap room to sign him. The expiring contract of Mcdyess is not enough to get them enough below the salary cap to sign a max deal.
