Ashton Kutcher Wagon Still Rolling In 04...

Recommended Posts

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20
Just weeks after Ashton Kutcher said no to more seasons of MTV's Punk'd, Kutcher is developing the hidden-camera comedy My New Best Friend.

The show is based on a British series of the same name from production company Tiger Aspect that ran on Channel Four. In it, a contestant can win a substantial cash prize by convincing friends and/or family that a person they have never met before -- actually an improv actor handpicked -- is a new best friend. The actor makes the task as difficult as possible by acting in all sorts of inappropriate ways.

Kutcher will co-executive produce "Friend" but is not expected to serve in an on-air capacity as he did on Punk'd. No airdate has been scheduled.

Person 1: Hey mom, this is my new best friend.

Person 2: *jumps up and down* I'm a monkey.

Idiot kids at my school: OMG TEH FUNNY HAHAHAHAHA~!

That is one of the fucking stupidest things I have ever heard.

It's not stupid...It's British...It's a common mistake for Americans to make.

Isn't that pretty similar to the new reality show where a woman has to convince her family that an obnoxious man she just met is her fiancee?

Yes, but this one is different cause it's ON MTV

Man, it's so obvious.

What is also obvious is Ashton is talentless.

this is one of those things that Ashton probably REALLY has little to do with, but since his name appears 1000000000 times in the credits, and the show happens to be a hit, he will be hailed a genius.

Shouldn't the british be hailed as genius for coming up with the idea? Or did Ashton invent them to?

I just want to see that movie he's got coming out...The Butterfly Effect or something like that...looks like a thinking man's thriller.

I also want to see Cheaper by the Dozen but not because of his Kelso-esque performance

I don't know, but it's definitely time for it to end. Don't get me wrong. I loved the series and all, but they can only play 18 yr. olds for so many years. After about 2002, the show started getting ridiculous.

Oh, and I agree on the Butterfly Effect. That movie looks absolutley awesome. I get goosebumps just watching the previews. It could still end up sucking, but I'm hoping it will be the realistic thriller with a supernatural edge i the same vein as Donnie Darko.

I have to agree with Iggy on both counts. 70's is probably my favorite show on the air today, but it's run its course, I think. Kelso's baby was a good way to go and develop, but after this and the resolution to Eric and Donna's ongoing story, it's probably about out of steam.

OMG I sound like such a fanboy. Anyway, Butterfly Effect looks very good, and I can't wait to see it.

The British series was actually darn good. One of the main reasons for this was that the contestants were pretty annoying and so it was fun to watch the main guy put em though hell.

For example, for one macho kinda guy they had this super camp therapist (most of the guys are cliched) who managed to cause huge problems for the guy at this party (which was cringeworthy even before the actor turned up) and later on forced the guy to come out to some of his friends.

They also had various other charaters such as a hypercondriac geek (who posed as some girls boyfriend) and what could essentially be classed as a weird stalker.

Now, theres probably just as many annoying Americans as Brits who people can enjoy seeing being uncomfortable and providing they can find a good actor to do the improv (it's quite the task, to stay in that character for 2 - 3 days and also think of things to do that'll make good TV). So the show could work, providing Kutcher doesn't decide to be 'the friend'

Question. How much longer is That 70's Show going to be on the air? I'm wondering with all the movie roles and what have you Ashton is getting.

The liscense plate on the back of the car at the end of the shows theme tells you what year they're in, right now they're in 1979 so it probably has one more season at the most.

I don't like how they recast Laurie either...who they had was perfect...the girl they have now just doesn't fit the role

Admittedly I haven't seen a lot of That 70's show but I don't get the licence plate thingy given that an early episode I watched had Eric's 17th Birthday and one of the newer ones had Eric's 18th Birthday.

And given that it's gone up once per series wouldn't that make them all like 23, 24ish by now?
