Just finished watching Shamrock vs Ortiz. Loved it. Shamrock is just in such great condition and I loved how he didn't run out of energy here continually staying active. How would this fight compare to some of the other top MMA bouts in quality?

Shamrock/Ortiz - for me - would be a top 15 match, maybe. I love this fight, Frank Shamrock is a GOD, but I would rank a host of others ahead of it (mainly from PRIDE). It's one of the best UFC fights of all time, though. I love how Shamrock works the cage to his advantage, how he listens to his corner (when Mo said "30 seconds" Frank immediately picked it up - a specific strategy), and his overall ability (though he could improve his takedown defense).

The first fight was so bad I actually rewinded the tape and recorded over it. I love the knockout in the second fight. And I am SO VERY HAPPY to have gotten Ortiz/Shamrock on tape.

Frank Shamrock at least a couple of times gave Otiz his back seemingly for a choke but Ortiz wouldn't bite. Why's that? What was he scared of if he went for the choke on Shamrock?

My guess was that Shamrock was hoping that Ortiz would crawl up (as he would have to in attempting a choke) his back more and expose his leg at which point Shamrock would go for a kneebar. Or possibly a heel hook, something along those lines.

EDIT:

WildPegasus - If you watched the Shamrock highlight vid before the fight it would have been similar to how he submitted Jeremy Horn.

Yeah, I'd definitely agree with that. Tito was afraid of the heel hooks and leg locks since he didn't wear shoes (the announcers said that was for his kickboxing, but he did very little of that). Plus, giving your back isn't *that* bad, since it could possibly turn into the guard position for you.

Tito was tired. Fun lil Fact: Tito went to train *on cardio* with Frank Shamrock after this fight.

Frank's gameplan was to wear Tito-out; he did it to perfection. Watching Frank in this fight is watching a master - you can pick up so much from just seeing what he does in certain situations.

I have no idea why they showed the first match; what a piece of crap.
