Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2004 Clemens can now join Pettite and they both can go fuck themselves. Clemens just pissed on having his number retired by the yankees, future yankee stadium celebrations and any chance he had into going into the hall of fame as a yankee. Fuck you clemens I pray to god that you stink the joint up like the way you did against boston and the marlins in the playoffs. You almost cost your team the pennant and you cost your team the world series. Fuck you old man. Anger towards Clemens is fine, but anger towards Pettitte is wrong. The man came up with the Yanks through the farm, provided solid season and post-season work, gave that left handed counter-balance that David Wells had difficulty in doing on a regular basis, and when Pettitte became a free agent, he did what he wanted to do, which was pitch closer to home. I hold no grudge against Pettitte, it was simply business, and I tip my cap to him and thank Pettitte for his years of service in New York. Clemens deserves the hate after his whole reitrement bullshit, and then turning around and playing again. Clemens is the one who deserves the hate, not Pettitte. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Unlike the rest of you, I'm all for this move from Clemens. I don't give a flying fuck what kind of guy he is (and off the field, I haven't heard a damn thing bad about him). I appreciate him for what he is and has always been: one of the best damn pitchers I have ever seen.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted January 14, 2004 What the fuck is wrong with saying that. The Astros just added Roger Clemens, and Andy Pettite. To me it sounds like he's saying "You better get tickets ASAP, because I just know there will be a stampede at the gate since I, your favorite son, am coming home." Or maybe I just read too much into it.

I appreciate him for what he is and has always been: one of the best damn pitchers I have ever seen. And that's fine. If he wanted to turn his back on us and join the enemy, it's somewhat acceptable. But what THE FUCK was the fake retirement horesehit? And the best is the dickhead said he STILL wants to join the HOF as a Yankee.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 So you'd really be less upset if Clemens signed with the Red Sox? As anyone who works for the Yankees actually commented on Clemens. The fans who are forgetting Clemens was replaced are upset, but what about the organization itself?

And to reiterate an argument that we've had a dozen times ... the player doesn't get to choose, so who fucking cares what Clemens wants to wear into the Hall? And at this point he's proven that he's not as loyal to the Yankees as he tried to portray. By signing with the Astros, he lost absolutely any right to dictate what cap he should enter the Hall of Fame in. At this point, he'll go in with a Red Sox cap, accept it, and like it. Or he could just not show up to his ceremony. I know I definitely won't lose sleep over it either way.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 You New York folks need to stop taking this Clemens so damn personally. He only came back because Pettitte signed with the Astros and he wanted to play one year at home with his best bud. If Pettitte hadn't signed, I guarantee you Clemens would still be retired. Stop acting like it's the end of the world. The sky is not falling in...you still have a good baseball team. Relax. Please.

Thank you Clemens for your years here, hope you have good luck in Houston. He needs to give that damn Hummer back that his Yankee team mates gave him. I dont think it's bad that he decided to go to Houston. The bad part is the charade he was playing with the fake retirement. Many people feel betrayed. Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted January 15, 2004 He didn't hype the last season thing, he was asked, and said yes, this is it. He didn't know for a fact it was, he just felt at the time that would be it, and said so. Blame game announcers for the whole "farewell tour" thing, they jump on whatever angles they can, and they did. I just can't see how you can blame a guy for changing him mind on something that was never set in stone.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted January 15, 2004 He never retired, he said he would, How exactly did he never retire? How does one make retiring official other than saying many, many times that 2003 was it and how do we know he didn't do it?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 The Rocket's golden moments By Jim Caple Page 2 columnist Roger Clemens was retired about as long as Britney Spears was married. Short as it might have been, though, the Rocket Man's retirement was absolutely exhausting. Our exclusive peek inside his diary reveals . . . Oct. 26: I cleaned out my locker at Yankee Stadium today and said good-bye to all the boys. Writers keep asking whether there's any chance I'll come back next year, but they're hunting the wrong dog. I'm not like Michael Jordon and Magic Johnson -- some poor old athlete unable to leave the game or find satisfaction in another venture. Sure, I'll miss the camaraderie and the competition, but this is what I want and I'm not looking back. I've missed too much time with my family because of baseball and I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. "Farewell, fans. It's been great. I'm honored to go out as a Yankee." Oct. 27: What a great day. Nothing to do and not a care in the world. I slept in until noon and spent the whole afternoon watching TV. I never knew "Matlock'' was on during the day, too. Oct. 28: Despite what everyone said, I'm not going to have any trouble keeping busy in retirement because I've just got too many exciting projects on my plate. Like today. I worked the entire day, but it was worth it because I've never seen the garage so clean. Oct. 30: Another good thing about being retired is having the time to sit down and finally get all your papers in order. But damn, my 401K plan has taken a hit. Nov. 2: Cleaned the garage again. Nov. 4: Doesn't MTV ever show music videos anymore? Nov. 6: Filed for free agency but just as a mere formality. I mean, I've turned the page on that chapter of my life. And I have far too much on my agenda to even consider pitching again. Nov. 10: Went to the hardware store and looked at nails and doorknobs. Nov. 14: A wasted day. I looked all day but could not remember where I put my car keys. And then when I finally gave up, Debbie found them right on the coffee table but I swear they weren't there when I looked. Nov. 18: Doesn't Bravo ever show anything but re-runs of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?'' "Wow! The Boss game me a Hummer! Man, am I honored to go out as a Yankee." Nov. 20: Cleaned the garage again. Nov. 25: Did all the Thanksgiving grocery shopping for Debbie. But I can't believe the prices. Seventy cents per pound for turkey? I remember when you could buy an entire 36-pound Tom turkey for 70 cents -- and they threw in a can of cranberry sauce for free. What is this country coming to? Dec. 3: Went down to the basement and threw baseballs at the life-sized poster of Mike Piazza, just to maintain my touch. Hit him every time. I've still got it. Not that I need it, but it's nice to know. Just in case of, like, burglars. Or something. Dec. 5: Lost my car keys again. Dec. 7: I tell you, that Andy Rooney cracks me up every time. Dec. 11: Andy Pettitte signed with the Astros today. Hmmmm. I wonder whether they would be interested in signing me. Not that I would want to because I love being retired. But I was just wondering. Dec. 12: And it couldn't hurt to call the Astros and see what's up. Could it? Dec. 18: Stopped by Wal-Mart while shopping for Christmas presents and just for the heck of it, filled out an application to be a greeter. Dec. 20: Boy, it was cold today. But not, as I was telling the boys at the hardware store this morning, anywhere near as cold as it was that one day, oh, must have been six years ago. Now, that was cold. Dec. 24: Went over to Don Zimmer's place to watch "White Christmas.'' I tell you, that Rosemary Clooney was some looker. "Ahh, screw it. Hey, at least Sox fans and Yanks fans have something in common now." Dec. 25: Debbie, me and the boys enjoyed a very pleasant Christmas together. Although I just don't understand these violent video games the boys all wanted for Christmas. And some of the music they listen to, have you ever heard the lyrics? I don't understand why they wear their pants so low, either. And don't get me started on those hairstyles. Dec. 31: Spent New Year's Eve at home watching the show from Times Square. Whatever happened to that nice Guy Lombardo? Or maybe he was on after I went to bed at 11:30. Jan. 6: Does Debbie hide my car keys when I'm not looking? Jan. 10: The Astros called and asked me whether I wanted to pitch for them next season. Naturally, I told them no, sorry, I was too busy and that I was enjoying retirement too much and that I couldn't disappoint my family. Jan. 11: Debbie and the boys told me to call the Astros back and tell them yes. Jim Caple is a senior writer for ESPN.com

By the end of last season you could see his feelings on the Red Sox thaw somewhat. Realizing he had his best years in Boston. One question is why did Clemens deserve to have his number retired, or enter the Yankee Hall of Fame? He doesn't rank near the top in any pitching categories. He only pitched 5 seasons with the team. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 In Barron's post of Clemens' diary it almost sounds like he was planning to go to the Astros, but was delaying his decision a little bit. Just look at his quotes about throwing at a poster of Piazza and "maybe I should call the Astros to see what's up?" Sounds like he was just putting it off to soften the blow.
