OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 49ers' Garcia arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Jan. 14, 2004 SportsLine.com wire reports SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Wednesday, a jail spokesman said. Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, was booked into the Santa Clara County jail at about 3:30 a.m., spokesman Mark Cursi said. "He'll be assessed, and when it's determined he can care for himself, he'll be released on a written promise to appear in court," Cursi said. Garcia was pulled over by San Jose State University police near campus, Cursi said. Garcia had three passengers in his car and the vehicle was pulled over for "erratic operation," campus police said in a statement. The statement said preliminary results showed a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, but that final results would not be available for about two weeks. Garcia attended San Jose State and lives in San Jose. He has been the 49ers' starting quarterback since Steve Young retired after the 1999 season. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Well, I guess Tim Rattay is the starting QB for the Niners next season now.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Just because of a dui? If they were planning on starting him next season, this won't stop them.
Bored 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 Yes drunk driving hardly ever cost a player a job. Now if he ends up coming out of the closet....
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 The statement said preliminary results showed a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, but that final results would not be available for about two weeks. Huh? Don't they give you the test on the spot, and it says your BAL? I love Garcia, but I think Rattay should start next season. Garcia is getting older and when he was injured, Rattay played excellent. Besides, Owens will be gone next year.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Isn't it obvious what he's getting at. However, Garcia is way to obvious with his lisp and all to be the real deal. It would end up being someone with a big macho act, like a Ray Lewis.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 My guess if its beer, then it took him 3 Cases of American beer to get plastered
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 15, 2004 You don't have to get "plastered" to get a DUI. Besides Garcia is a little guy...he probably hits close to legal limit after a few margaritas.
Prime Time Andrew Doyle 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 I doubt he will be released or lose his starting job because of this, besides wasn't McNair arrested for DUI last off-season?

Guest BobbyWhioux Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Oh come on now. All quarterbacks are gay. Didn't y'all know that? And Centers, too. They're all gay. That's why they volunteer to play the one position where you are guaranteed to have a dude's hands on your ass before every play. And the quarterbacks are gay, too. If they were real men instead of light-loafered prissies, they'd demand to run every play out of the shotgun formation. Like the punter, who stands 15 yards away from everyone else, and kicks the ball everyone's chasing as far away from him as possible, so as to be unaccosed by all the queens on the field. The punter is the only straight guy on any football team. And I'll prove it. Tight Ends are gay, too. I mean, come on now. Look at the position name. If they were straight, they'd object to the name and have it changed. Linebackers? They keep running around trying to grab guys from behind and "tackle" them. GAY. Defensive Linemen? Trying to get sacks! Looking to get some "penetration" on the line of scrimmage, which is clearly a euphemism and a metaphor for the sphincter. GAY. Defensive backs, running up and down the field, playing "bump and run" trying to "chuck" wide receivers. Repressed GAY behavior. And of course, the wideouts do it too. Trying to push off. Push the DB's away, resist their advances... because they're in denial, and have yet to accept their GAYNESS. Placekickers are obviously each team's respective collective prison bitch and drag queen. Only way those tiny fools could make the team, really. GAY. Plus, check out how they whimp out of and avoid trying to tackle people. What limpwristed pansies. The other offensive linemen are all gay, too. Circlejerkers. That's why they always sit together on the bench, eat together, as a unit, shower together, etc. GAY. The special teams "gunners"? Are you kidding? You see the way they dance after each stupid inconsequential special teams tackle! How flamboyant. How choreographed. How exhibitionist and out and proud. How GAY. Running backs? Puh-lease. Their whole job is to "hit the hole" as fast and as hard as possible. How do you think they practice that? Huh? How do you think they get so good at that, huh? Charging for the gap between those fat offensive lineman asses. It's Cuz they're GAY. So there you go. Everybody but the punter. Everyone else is GAY. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 The DUI isn't the only reason he would lose his job, he'd lose it for being the older quarterback who this season blew the final game of the season vs Seattle. Owens, who I'm almost sure will be back, likes Rattay better and Tim has the stronger arm than Garcia. It's a shame cause I like Garcia but the Niners will use this as a way to dump him via trade or waiver.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Young did look a little "too" good looking to be straight on the halftime show last weekend. He saved sex for marriage and didn't do it till he was thirty. True story. Bobby Whioux's post on how he knows that other people are gay is a little too long for me to think that he has gained all of this information from mere observance. A little experimentation had to be involved.......
Bored 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Owens, who I'm almost sure will be back, likes Rattay better and Tim has the stronger arm than Garcia. Nope Owens is as good as gone no matter what happens at quarterback. You know I've always thought part of the reason why Owens never liked Garcia was because that he thought Garcia was gay. Owens put up huge numbers with Garcia at quarterback so I always thought there had to be something else to his problem with Jeff.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 I hope Garcia stays but I just gotta wonder if his final throws in the Seattle game, added on with this won't end up hurting him. I think he's the better of the QB but I also think Rattay is a Pro Bowl QB sitting on the bench. With time, I think Tim could be one of the top QBs in the NFL. Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Rattay needs more starts and PT, for me to get a real good read on him. As for Garcia, he was injured most of the year, and I wonder if he will be able to heal, and regain his Pro-Bowl form, regardless of how ugly he can be. Being that this is the first bad thing Garcia has done, and the fact he is owning up to it, will not cost him his job. That will only happen if he gets outplayed in the Pre-Season. I am not sure if Owens will be back. If his asking price is too big, the Niners will not spend that money. And especially if it means they can keep Peterson, who was the MVP of the Niners this season, and is turning into one of the better outside linebackers in the league. I still want York gone as the owner. Bring back Eddie D.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Owens will be gone next season, they'll definitely put the franchise tag on him and let him go. I just hope that someone with a high draft pick signs him (should he be franchise-tagged) so the 49ers can get one of the top WRs at that spot.

When Patrick took his silence as a "no", Mora didn't say anything to contradict it. I think that's fairly clear. -=Mike
