Guest drdrainoscott Report post Posted January 15, 2004 I was just thinking that this is the first time when we don't really know who is going to win the rumble. Last year, we knew Brock was gonna win it. The year before, we knew Hunter was gonna win it. This year, Beniot, Angle, and Goldberg could easily win, with Cena, Jericho and Orton having a chance. I think the last time that it was like this was possibly 1997 with Bret, Austin and Taker having a shot.

Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted January 15, 2004 For me, it was 2001. Both Steve Austin and The Rock were heavy favorites to win the Royal Rumble that year.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted January 15, 2004 The last time was 1999....... hey don't tell me Vince was expected! Wasn't it obvious that Russo knew that Austin was the blatant winner and thus pulled another of his famous SWERVES? I agree that 1997 was truly the last year where the winner wasn't certain. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Of course it was a swerve. Austin would have won.... had it not been for Russo. But yeah 1997 was a surprise.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 This year, Beniot, Angle, and Goldberg could easily win, with Cena, Jericho and Orton having a chance. Huh? The only two I think have any real shot of winning are Benoit (with his title hunt of Brock) or Goldberg (but he's problematic, as most think he'll be gone after Mania - so Vince has to decide, is he willing to give this to Goldberg just to get the rumored Brock / Goldberg match at Mania?). hitman2003 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 In he 2001 Royal Rumble, Steve Austin and The Rock were definately the favorites to win it. But, while I was watching it live, I actually thought they might have Kane win because of the way they had him dominate the match. The was the first time in years that I was totally marking out at the end of the rumble.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 It will either be Benoit or Goldberg. If they're feeling stupid then maybe Orton.
Guest reshad974 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 For me, it was 1992. I expect all winners after that.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 The Rumble's been predictable since 96 although 97 and 99 were surprises.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Every winner/s since 92 with the exception of 97 have all been expected.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 I disagree. 2001 was not expected at all- you knew the main event would be Rock v. Austin but with neither having the belt at the time there was some mystery over who would win the RR. Maybe some people expected Stone Cold to win but I don't think it was as predictable as 98, 2000, 2002 or last year
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 How many Rumbles were TRULY unpredictable? 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1997. How many others?
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 I was pretty sure Rock was going to win in 2001, if only because history has shown you're only supposed to win the Rumble twice, and it's back to back. Austin had already done his back to back and Rock had won the year prior. Tradition changed and I was surprised. I think in the end it worked out better that way.
