Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Morgan Freeman is too old. Get Dennis Haysbert on board and I'll see it.
Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 It's too bad "The Rundown" didn't do so hot in the theaters. I saw it the weekend of its inception and I was pleased with the film. The Rock's performance was fun to watch, and the only downside, like someone said, was Sean W. Scott's horrible comedy. Rundown is far superior to Scorpion King, I feel. I doubt Rocky's movie drawing potential is in the shits.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 The morgan freeman character dies mid-film, and doesn't do a lot. He'd just be a nice sympathetic character who - when he dies - makes the villains seem all that more nasty.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 I dunno RRR, Hogan killing Freeman seems....wrong... But I say bring back Jim Brown(assuming he's out of jial) to play Fireball again.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 But the Rock would slice Hogan up... "Ah. . . he had to split"

Guest W_Hillard Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Arnold has already arranged it so Rock takes over his roles in Terminator and Conan when the movies get made. Please tell me you're kidding. Please? No, I'm not. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): If you see "The Rundown", Arnold gives his first confirmation by having a cameo where he walks by the Rock in a suit and tells him "Good Luck". The whole point of that was Arnie passing off to the Rock If you didn't, Arnold has already said he thinks the Rock is the next great action star and the roles will move forward with Rock with Arnie having a small cameo until he has more free time for bigger roles. Well, The Rock as a Terminator might be cool. But, keep him away from the Role of Conan. I'm sorry, but Arnold himself couldn't pull off that role. Rock damn sure won't be able to. Guest Duncan Eternia Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Just so everyone knows, 47 million is a respectable gross regardless of cost. Rundown has other places to go yet too....it was just released in Mexico, plus there are DVD and VHS sales. Also, Hollywood would not release a movie in September if they had expected it to be a huge box office smash. I think this was like a warm up movie for Rock. I hope Rock does great with his future projects. Even Arnold made movies that didnt gross well....Collateral damage, Twins, The sixth day.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 I find it interesting Denzel Washington's "Out of Time" was released the same weekend as The Rundown, and yet it's out on DVD already as opposed to The Rundown.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Since most of us are wrestling fans, hardcore ones at that, who actually saw the Rundown in theaters? I saw it the day it came out. One side of me wants Rock to not do so well so he comes back and entertains me on TV weekly, but the other side doesn't want to wish him to fail because I just like the guy so much. Just about every review of the film said that (besides Walken of course) Rock's personality and potential were clear and that this pretty much was a getting-his-feet-wet film. I'd rather remember this as his first film than The Scorpion King since that was just a fantasy period piece and I think Rock is much more suited for contemporary, real-world roles. That was one that was expected to be big. The other's also were not big box office hits either. They did OK....just like the rundown. I think we need to give Rock a little credit. Guest JacK Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Anyone know why they changed the name to 'Welcome to the Jungle' for Australia? I mean, did they think if it was called 'Rundown' we'd think it'd be some guy being hit by a car and that's it? Or did they think if they put 'Jungle' in the title we'd go to see it? I mean, what were they thinking? On all the shows and stuff they had talkin bout movies, they all called it 'Rundown' . . . then all of a sudden it's a freakin different movie . . . I mean what were they thinking? What's the point of promoting a movie by one name, and then screening it by another? I mean, people who actually wanted to see it would be all like, 'I wonder whatever happened to that movie 'Rundown?'' . . . I mean WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? It's not like 'Welcome to the Jungle' is like the greatest title in the history of the movie world, it sounds like a freakin documentary.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 That report makes it sound like the movie had already made all his foreign gross by the end of 2003, yet it hadn't even been in theaters in many of the bigger countries, including Australia, the UK, Germany, Spain and France. I call BS on this one, Meltzer should stick to wrestling. That's what he knows.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Hmmmm... The Scorpion King takes place in barbarian times in Egypt. Conan The Barbarian and Red Sonja take place in barbarian times in, uhhh...Mongolia, or something. The Rundown is a cheesily fun action flick where the main character spouts off one-liners a mile a minute. Commando is a cheesily fun action flick where the main character spouts off one-liners a mile a minute. The Rock came from professional wrestling. Arnold Schwarzenegger came from professional bodybuilding. I can see some similarities between the two... And RRR, use Bruce Dickinson as Dynamo (lead singer of Iron Maiden, former opera singer), Tyler Mane as Buzzsaw (Sabretooth in X-Men), and Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Dawn Of The Dead '04) as Fireball. I'd love to see that scrawny Brit Dickinson kick some ass.

The last tale of Conan ("Conan of the Isles") took place across the ocean in South America.

Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 You folks need to read between the lines. Meltzer isn't saying the man's acting career is over. What he's saying is his chances of being the guy who can carry a movie as the lead role are starting to come into question. He can and probrably will get movie roles for a long time to come, but his drawing power in the box office has come into question. Remember, in Hollywood, it's how hot are you right now. Right now, Rock's box office record as THE LEAD MAN is what's in question. And on a personal note, Scorpion King and Rundown sucked 7 different types of ass. While I did see Rock's potential better in Rundown, that didn't stop the movie as a whole from blowing goats.
