ESPN NFL tips?

Recommended Posts

I'm entering a pretty competitve football league on the Xbox (ESPN NFL) and I am outclassed Needing some tips...

-What are good quick passes in this game when I'm trying to avoid a blitz? I've found the screen pass to ny RB to be pretty effective. Others?

-When do you ever use the shuttle pass?

-Does the running back option pass EVER work?

Although this really applies to ANY football game...

From personal experience, when you are being blitz, use short quick passes for a few yards. Not like 6-7, I'm talking the really short 2-4 passes. Like Screen Passes or cuts to the inside.

Running Back Option I've never been able to work. Then again, I usually pass a shit load, so I don't really use a RB that much.

Betty, use pass plays with a "90" in the name of the play. 90 refers to a 1 or 3 step drop by the QB, whereas a "50" is a 5 or 7 step drop.

On a 1 step, you basically pass the ball right after the snap. For a 3 step, watch the QB drop back and when he bounces forward, throw the ball. With an open receiver, you are almost guaranteed to get the ball off without being sacked.

Rollouts (pass plays with an "RO") also work if you know the pass rush of the defense is going inside. Outside pass rushes or contain plays almost always get a sack on rollouts, so be careful.

Wow, thanks! I'm going to try some of these when I get done with work!

Quick slants can kill a blitz, especially if they blitz up the middle. Line up in I-Spread, there's a great slant play that goes to your third receiver. If you have a speedster like Santana Moss or Dante Hall, you can turn those blitzes into TDs.

I'm not sure what schemes you've been using, but you also might want to try lining up with an RB back to block, it'll give you a bit of time for your receivers to run their routes.

I've found some great plays: Play actions passes where the receiver stops-and-goes. Killer.
