saw Monster yesterday, and GOD DAMN was that a great movie. All the stuff about Charlize Theron being great in that movie were right. That has to be one of the best performances I've seen. Anybody else seen this?

Well I just watched this film, and it was very very good. Christina Ricci did a fine job, not outstanding, but fine, while Charlize Theron on the other hand just blew me away. Had I not known it was Charlize, I just might have not known it was her as I was watching this film. It's one of those moments in film where the actress becomes the character, it's just unreal.

As for the plot and story, well, it was "ok" to me. Don't get me wrong, I do love the overall story, but there wasn't much substance to this one, it just left me feeling empty. The best thing about the film is without a doubt all of the performances, and more than any other, that of Charlize. I'll suggest this film to anyone really, unless of course you are a tight ass moron.

As for "tit shots", I don't really recall any really good ones for Christina. Most of them were reserved for Charlize. The role that Christina plays isn't really one that goes along with something like that I don't think.

Downhome, you do know this is based on a true story, dontcha? (Just got the expression you didn't know?).

Anyways, I haven't seen it yet, but I will soon.

Wow, what a weird question to ask me of all people. ;)

Yes, of course I know it's a true story. That's what I mean when I say that Charlize did such a good job. Not only did she simply give a good acting performance, but she really seemed to BE Aileen Wuornos, from what I've seen of the woman in actual footage and the such.

Sorry, just took your response about the plot and story wrong I guess.

Just saw it. Totally agree with Downhome's sentiments.

Acting performances were solid, highlighted by Theron. The actual story itself I thought was interesting (being it based on a true story and all), but there was something missing that made it just pretty good.

Of course, the easy comparison is Boys Don't Cry for obvious reasons, although I thought Boys Don't Cry was slightly better. Haven't seen BDC for awhile though so I may be wrong.

I've seen 3 movies in the last week and this would probably rank third. That's not an insult though, as Big Fish and In America were the other two.

Out of those two, I would probably say In America was the slightly better one. Big Fish to me was somewhat special (altough it felt very much like a fabled version of Forrest Gump) while In America was great.

Next on the list to see is 21 Grams, which I have high expectations for and should top all three of these. Penn and Del Toro, can't go wrong.

I love January, when all of the December movies which got limited releases get the mainstream pushes.

Check out a little film called The Station Agent. I was going to make a post here about it, but I didn't think anyone would care all that much. There isn't too much to it, but the characters and the overall theme and the little story did just click with me, and apparently with a ton of critics also (at RottenTomatoes it got 96% overall and 100% Cream of the Crop).

I love these little films that usually don't get a wide release, and when they do they aren't around very long at all.

Man, BDC is the type of movie you can sit through once. And it is usually the performance of one actor carrying a movie. I have feeling Theron does it here.

I didn't see Monster's Ball, but Halle Berry did the same thing and took home the statue. And Hillary Swank did in BDC. But man, the one thing these movies do make you feel is bummed out. I am interested to see what else she can do, or is the one in a lifetime roles. Being that this field is always open, I would not be suprised if she sneaks into a nomination, at least.

Since this is the role many people have been harping about, out every movie, male or female, sans Sean Penn and a few others. But this what people are talking about now.

I guarantee she'll get an Oscar nom. The Academy loves roles where actors completely immerse themselves into the character.

I guarantee she'll get the Oscar. Nobody's come close this year, male or female.

It's still too early to guarantee Oscar winners.
