Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2004 KISS would be? Not all of their stuff would fall under metal, but what would (like the entire Creatures of the Night or Lick it Up albums) would fall under Pop metal (from my 8 genres listed above) To clarify, under Pop Metal, I would throw glam, hair, nu-metal and heavier grunge bands (like Alice in Chains). In this case, "pop", in spite of it's negative connotation, does not always have to be negative... it's just the easiest means of classifying these groups Sorry, Alice In Chains do not belong in "pop metal" They are in the broad "Just Metal" area with Tool and Pantera

Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2004 Sorry, Alice In Chains do not belong in "pop metal" They are in the broad "Just Metal" area with Tool and Pantera Like I said, some *coughelitistscough* might have a problem with the term pop metal because of the connotations of the word, but I think it fits in their case, same for Pantera As for Tool, file them in the "overrated" bin
Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2004 Oh yes, and in spite of what IMCers (this was the thing I was talking about months ago) would like to believe, bands like Shrimp Bizkit, Korn, Slipknot and the like are metal... Just because they get more airtime and facetime than the IMC's chosen bands (see also: Benoit v. Trips) doesn't make them not-metal... even if they aren't good metal

How does Pantera get called pop? You must have some kickass rock/metal radio stations in your area. I have two rock and two classic rock stations here and they have never played Pantera except for late at night. Even in Pantera's hey day.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2004 Whoa! How does Pantera get called pop? Back in the day (from Cowboys From Hell to Far Beyond Driven) Pantera used to get major airplay on MTV and the hard rock stations And that's to say nothing of the real early stuff.... you know what I mean... Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 25, 2004 It is quite silly when someone goes on and on about someone like korn not being metal. Whatever band may be a terrible band and/or major metal marks may hate whatever band, but it's still a form of metal. If glam hair bands can be called metaaal, it's extremely silly to say another form of pop metal can't be. It would be like saying P-Diddy isn't rap just because you don't like his music. MTV also thinks 50 Cent is a gangsta rapper, and Linkin Park metal But, but, but 50 Cent has been shot 5 Times and his posse beat up Ja Rule and stole his bling bling... ...Why wouldn't you call 50-Cent a gangsta rapper? I mean, not because of the getting shot or anything - he IS one of the guys who raps heavily about guns, money, and living large. Someone looking for a gangsta rapper would be much better off turning to 50 than to Talib Kweli.
Perfxion 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2004 Gangsta rap is about as alive and kicking as George Washington. 50 cent talks alot about guns because he was shot and is ready for the next time. Money and fame, all raps of all time talk about that. Hell look at the first rap song. Hell, look at Kurtis Blow or Funky 4 Plus 1. Name one mainstream rapper, past or present, who doesn't talk about how much money they make or how much they got.
