Fökai 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 According to wwe.com- Spike is still in it Hmm...why would they just book an injury angle to take Spike out of the battle royale, though? Weird.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted January 23, 2004 If that's the case, then why does a wrestler who wins, in a tag match let's say, against his opponent a week before the PPV, always loses at the PPV itself? Using your logic, a wrestler, who gets the "last laugh" against his opponent before an upcoming PPV, makes the outcome at the PPV "too obvious" in the fans' minds, making the aforesaid wrestler's victory at the PPV a surprise. But this almost never happens. Are you talking to me? If so: Everyone's caught on to that. Whoever gets the last laugh loses so the fans expect it. After a while they start to think to themselves, "Well, the WWE's not stupid enough to keep on giving out the victors so I'm going to go with the person who got the last laugh." Than what does the WWE do? They have the person who didn't get the last laugh win! It takes a while to set up which it makes it all the more genius (a little predictability is necessary to be totally unpredictable) but in the end it's once again the WWE playing over everyone's heads. It never fails!
Guest Choken One Report post Posted January 23, 2004 As for Spike, I wouldn't be shocked to see WWE give him one of those underdog pushes and have him, taped ribs and all go for like 25 minutes and even eliminate The Likes of Matt Morgan/A-Train... Or they can use Kane's "brutal" attack as a springboard for him to leave, citing personal danger or something and that gives him a legal loophole to leave Raw. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 23, 2004 If Spike becomes their marathon man for this Rumble I swear to god somebody will recieve a nasty letter written with magazine letter cut-outs the following day.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 I still can't believe that Spike TV hasn't seen what a marketing powerhouse they could have with Spike Dudley! And just didn't Spike Lee sue Spike Dudley too? Or Spike Jonze?
clean rob 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 I don't see this as an indication that Benoit definitely won't be winning by any means. The fact that Benoit is up on the cover page shows that: (i) It's the main angle going into the Rumble match. (ii) In kayfabe, Benoit has a realistic shot at winning. And as for the poll, either: (i) It's fixed, and the company is showing the marks that Benoit's still in with a shot at winning despite being #1, though is by no means a shoe-in. (Which is good) (ii) It's not fixed, and the marks are telling WWE that they consider Benoit a viable title contender, although they aren't sure he'll win (also good). SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 Yeah, I've noticed those polls have little affect on decisions made in WWE. With a little luck, WWE has their plans for the next three months together already and was just looking for some fan interaction.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted January 23, 2004 I can't believe the creator of this thread threw such a fucking hissy fit. I mean, the other day they had GOLDBERG: #30! It means just about the same, Nothing. It's all Hype. Go to the RR Page and who is featured? Not Benoit, Goldberg, HBK, HHH, Orton but John Cena and he is rather well presented on that page taking a good chunk of screen space...
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 The last thing I want to see is Benoit's victory become tarnished due to outside interference. Can't we just have a clean ending? If Benoit is going to go out there and break Backlund's record, throwing out a few guys here and there, a slightly tainted victory ain't gonna take anything away from him. What's the point of this thread? IWC paranoia? The fact that 50% of fans polled think Benoit will win ISN'T a bad thing. It shows that he's finally getting over to a main eventer. At this point, it wouldn't make sense for anyone but Benoit to win, IMO.
