Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 I know, it's been...years since sport utility vehicles became popular and trendy, but a friend posed this question to me over Christmas Vacation. Will they ever give way to a new trendy automobile? I can't really think one way or the other, so I'll open the floor.
Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 By the way, WDI gets this topic as a POLL~! You should all go marvel at its pollness.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Yeah It's possible, Car "fashions" go through evolutions constantly...Potentially the ConvertibleTruck will become the next big thing. TRhere are SO many fucking concept cars out there potentially ready for the "big time".
Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted February 1, 2004 I had an SUV leased it but the gas money was kiling me. But as long as people are willing to spend the astronomical amount of money on gas they'll be around. I probably wouldve gotten another one once the lease was up but spending $50 a week on gas was way too much. Although I do miss having it with all the snow we had here this year. Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 True enough. I always like when a new design is introduced to the public, even if it's no good. On that note, has anyone seen the Chrysler Crossfire? I don't know what to think. (pic forthcoming)
Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Munky, where you at?
Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted February 1, 2004 New York. I know compared with our friends up North, our snowfall would probably be considered a dusting to them but is you aren't used to it, its a pain in the ass. Going from a truck to a Civic in the snow you definitely notice a difference.
Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Have you lived there all your life? I'd think you'd be used to the snow -- although that doesn't account for other drivers, but still.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Gas prices will kill SUV's..then everyone will be driving little mini cars like the ones that the 50 clowns get in and out of.
Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 You have to wonder if SUVs will even be allowed by the government in 20 or 30 years, due to dwindling fossil fuels. But yeah, I think some are really nice (Jeep's Grand Cherokee and Chevy's Trailblazer come to mind), but I couldn't see paying that much for gas, even if I had money. Guest Bottled Black Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Yeah I've lived here all my life but this winter has been the worst since I'ce been driving and also the first in 4 years where I didn't have an SUV. And other drivers piss the hell out of me, not necessarily only with the snow. Why do people have to drive 10 Mph in the friggin rain? Jesus Christ you put your wipers on and you drive.. How hard is that?
Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Well, true enough, although in a heavy rain, your visibility can be very limited, even with wipers. Not to mention slick surfaces and hydroplaning. 10mph is a bit much, but caution is a good idea.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2004 Well I like driving the SUVs at work but I'd never own one. They're fun to drive though.

JJMc 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 You know what I hate? I mean, can't fucking stand. Ahem. Women who are like 5'1", have less than three kids, drive Suburbans or Yukon XLs, for the most part are fucking yuppies, pay for the gas (all $60 of it) with their rich husbands' credit cards, probably never worked a day in their lives, and talk on phones while they drive. Why in the HELL do they think they need a vehicle that huge? It just boggles my mind. I think it's because I worked at a gas station and had to put up with them all the fucking time. I'm sure there's someone out there who shares my sentiment, no?
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 I'm sure it's worth it every time a particularly sweet sports/muscle car comes through that's even less practical, but oh so much cooler.

Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Gregg Easterbrook wrote a fantastic article on SUVs called "Axle of Evil." It appeared last year at TNR.com. You have to be a subscriber to read it, but you get 4 weeks for free and never have to pay anything, and I definitely recommend the article.
