A ROH diary.

Recommended Posts

Hoo boy. I started up March and ran into two big problems. The first being I forgot to change the large event to the last weekend of the month, so Expect the Unexpected will be on the 15th.

That's not a HUGE problem, since it just means less buildup time, except that I can't use Amazing Red or Justin Credible on the show, since they will be in Japan. Red was going to take on Kashmere, and Credible was scheduled to face Xavier in matches announced in the next LRS, but hopefully we'll get good replacements.

I feel for you. I lost 6 guys from my Quest For The Gold match, all of them believable winners or at the very least 'underdogs.' If it wasn't Ring Of Honor I'd suggest an injury angle on one of those two to build a new match...but, ROH wouldn't do that.

Anyway, great stuff still. Keep up the good work.

Locker Room Scoops for the week of March 15th, 2004

----------------------------------------------------------------

* Both Bryan Danielson and ROH management have heard Christopher Daniels request for a 30 minute Iron Man match at Expect the Unexpected. Due to the exceptional quality of their previous matches, and Danielson's willingness to prove himself, the match HAS been signed for the event in Elizabeth, NJ! Their last match was a Match of the Year candidate, so you will NOT want to miss this!

* Though ROH management wants to keep the ROH Title and the Pure Wrestling Titles seperate, Samoa Joe has demanded that the match between himself and Nick Dinsmore be signed for 3/15. Joe holds the Code of Honor in high regard, and is upset at the way Dinsmore won the Pure Wrestling Championship.

* Raven has refused to tell Ring of Honor who he is sending to Elizabeth to take on Trent Acid, only the cryptic comment about ECW heard on High Impact TV. Acid has said he'd beat anyone from "that second rate promotion". ROH wishes Raven well in his TNA endeavours, and hopes he will return some day.

* Johnny Kashmere's opponent for Expect the Unexpected has been signed, and in Elizabeth, NJ Kashmere will collide with the awe-inspiring Jack Evans. This is sure to be a memorable high-flying match.

* Xavier Vs. Jimmy Rave has been added to the Expect the Unexpected card. Rave is looking to break out in this match, while Xavier prepares to take on Bryan Danielson in Chicago.

* The Briscoe's offer to defend the tag team titles at anytime resulted in a challenge last week from Chris Sabin and Jimmy Jacobs. Jim Cornette has said he has no problem putting the titles up against the young duo, and Christopher Daniels has told ROH that Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer will defeat ALL comers WHEN they win the titles. So Sabin and Jacobs will challenge the tag team champions on the first episode of High Impact TV following Expect the Unexpected.

* The first "do or die challenge" match will take place on High Impact TV in April, and will feature workers from Georgia's NWA:Wildside Promotion. We hope to be able to announce the competitors for that match in the upcoming weeks.

* ROH's Chicago debut has been pushed ahead to April 18th, to accomodate the schedules of Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels who will both be touring New Japan at the time.

Preview: ROH Expect the Unexpected- March 15th, 2004- RexPlex, Elizabeth, NJ

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Johnny Kashmere Vs. Jack Evans

Johnny Kashmere is appearing in his first singles match for Ring of Honor, and the Backseat Boy is looking to make an immediate impact. ROH has brought in the amazing high flyer Jack Evans as his opponent, so you know this is going to be a memorable match. Evans has had his troubles with Special K recently, and views this as an opportunity to establish himself as a singles star. Both men expect this to be a breakout performance.

Alex Shelley Vs. John Walters Vs. Matt Styker Vs. Tom Carter

At the second anniversary show, Nick Dinsmore won the ROH Pure Wrestling Title in controversial fashion. Now everyone is gunning for the belt. In Elizabeth, four men will compete for a title shot, and all of them are on a mission. Stryker, Carter and Shelley all fell short in the Pure Wrestling Tournament, and John Waltersis looking to prove ROH management made a mistake in leaving him out. With four of the best pure wrestlers in the world in one match, this is a classic in the making.

Xavier Vs. Jimmy Rave

"The All Around Best" is returning to Ring of Honor in Elizabeth, and he's looking to make an impact. His opponent, Jimmy Rave, is looking to break out as ROH's next young star. Will Rave be able to realize his goal at Expect the Unexpected, or will Xavier return with a vengance.

Trent Acid Vs. ???

Trent Acid was originally scheduled to take on Raven in New Jersey, but Raven unexpected left the company, leaving on very short notice. On his way out, however, the always mysterious Raven informed Ring of Honor he was sending a replacement to take on the Backseat Boy. All we know about the mystery man is that he is a former ECW star, and that Acid is confident in beating him. This match could be a sleeper hit of the night.

Steve Corino Vs. Doug Williams

Steve Corino wants to prove he is the best wrestler in the world, but on 3/15, he will face the best Great Britain has to offer. Add to that the fact that Williams was beaten by Dynasty member Nick Dinsmore for the Pure Wrestling Title in covtreversial fashion at the 2nd Anniversary show, and bad blood will be flowing in this match. Both of these competitors are throwbacks to oldschool wrestling, so this match should be one to watch.

ROH Tag Team Titles

The Briscoe Brothers Vs. The Prophecy

Jay and Mark Briscoe have defended the tag team titles against all comers, and according to Jim Cornette, they will continue to do so as long as they hold the belts. They may be facing their biggest challenge in Elizabeth, however as they take on the overpowering duo of BJ Whitmer and Dan Maff. Whitmer and Maff are determined to walk out of New Jersey as tag team champions, and prophecy leader Christopher Daniels has garaunteed they will.

ROH #1 Contender's Trophy

CM Punk Vs. Homicide

At the second anniversary show, CM Punk won the #1 contender's trophy by pinning Amazing Red. The reason Red was able to be pinned however? A Cop Killa from Homicide. The Notorius 187 was irate at Punk "stealing" the trophy from him, and challenged Punk to put the trophy on the line in Elizabeth. Punk agreed, saying he beat Homicide last month, and he'd do it again on 3/15.

Non-Title Challenge Match

Samoa Joe Vs. Nick Dinsmore

With the Number One Contender to be determined in Elizabeth, Samoa Joe was without a match. Steve Corino, Joe's former friend, had something to say about it though, and offered a challenge for the Champ to take on Dinsmore. Joe immediately agreed, saying he would make "Mr. Wrestling" pay for disrespecting the Code of Honor. The wild card in this match will be Steve Corino's Dynasty. Will Joe be able to overcome the odds?

30 Minute Iron Man Match

Christopher Daniels Vs. Bryan Danielson

Last month at the 2nd Anniversary Show, Bryan Danielson defeated the Fallen Angel in an early Match of the Year Candidate. Daniels was furious, calling it a "fluke" win, and challenging the American Dragon to a 30 minute Iron match, where it will undoubtedly take more than one fall to win. Can Bryan Danielson win another over Christopher Daniels, or will the Fallen Angel extract revenge for the Prophecy? Either way, the fans will be a winner when two of the best in the world collide.

Ring of Honor Presents: Expect the Unexpected.

March 15th, 2004- RexPlex, Elizabeth, New Jersey

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commentators: Chris Lovey & Jim Cornette, with Ring Announcing by Stephen DiAngelis

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Referees: Sean Hansen, Gary Morrerre, Mike Kehner & Todd "Fat Pants" Sinclair

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Johnny Kashmere Vs. Jack Evans

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good opener. Kashmere came out first, with Trent Acid, getting heat from the crowd. Kashmere sent his partner to the back, saying he wanted to do this on his own, and Jack Evans was next through the curtain. Evans was able to get the crowd behind him through some mind-blowing spots, but Kashmere ended up on top by pummelling Evans, and avoiding a suicide dive. Kashmere got a nearfall with a superkick, and a second with a Powerbomb, but Evans mounted a comeback. Hitting a springboard elbow and a corkscrew legdrop, Evans got the fans into the match. Going to the toprope, Evans missed a 630 legdrop, and Kashmere was able to hit the Most Requested Neckbreaker for the 3. Both guys impressed in this one.

Match: 89% Crowd: 42% Overall: 65%

"Hurricane" John Walters Vs. Matt Stryker Vs. "Technician" Tom Carter Vs. "The Next" Alex Shelley

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was an OK Pure Wrestling match, but the fact that there were four guys in the match hindered not only the match quality, but the crowd's reaction. Stryker and Carter went at it on the mat early, but Carter escaped a waistlock and immediately tagged out to Walters. Walters backed Stryker into the corner with chops, getting a two count with a German Suplex. Stryker tagged out to Shelley, who went to the mat with Walters and came out on top. Shelley managed to hit the ShellShock on Walters, but Stryker and Carter both broke up the pin. Walters tagged to Stryker, who got the advantage on Shelley, only to have Alex break the StrykerLock in the ropes. Carter tagged himself in to take advantage of the weakend Shelley, but Shelley reversed into a ShellShock, getting the 3 and revenge on Carter for eliminating him from the Pure Wrestling Tourney. Perfectly Acceptable Match.

Match: 78% Crowd: 40% Overall: 59%

"The All Around Best" Xavier Vs. Jimmy Rave

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a bad match, but unfortunately, Rave and Xavier didn't click like we would have hoped. The crowd still doesn't accept Rave as a major threat, but they booed Xavier on past history alone. Rave put on an energetic display to start the match, but when he missed a plancha, Xavier took over, hitting numerous kneelifts to weaken Rave before hitting him with a superkick for 2. Rave tried to make a comeback, but was cut off by a neckbreaker. Xavier hit his opponent with the "Kiss Your X Goodbye", and finished Rave off by hitting him with the 450. Not a bad match or anything, but nothing special.

Match: 77% Crowd: 48% Overall: 62%

*3/4

Trent Acid Vs. Jerry Lynn

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The crowd exploded for the entrance of the mystery man, former ECW champion Jerry Lynn. Acid immediately attacked, knocking Lynn from the ring and hitting him with a plancha over the top. Back in the ring, Acid blasted Lynn with chops and hit a rana for two, before Lynn began to make his comeback. Sidestepping a dropkick, Lynn hit Acid with a spinebuster and an elbow drop for a nearfall of his own. A Spinning powerbomb and a brainbuster got nearfalls for Lynn, but Acid hit a neckbreaker for one of his own. The match ended when Acid missed a Yakuza Kick, and Lynn grabbed him with a cradle Piledriver for 3. The crowd reacted well to Lynn's debut, and Acid stepped up for a good match.

Match: 83% Crowd: 66% Overall: 74%

**3/4

Steve Corino Vs. "The Anarchist" Doug Williams

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was the very definition of an oldschool classic, with the classic Heel Corino going up against the "Human Torture Device". Williams dominated the early match on the ground, but when Corino was able to get the momentum, he isolated the Brit's neck and wore Williams down. A Neckbreaker and a DVD got 2 counts for Corino, but Williams continued to fight back, regaining control as Guillotine LeGrande and Veronica Stevens walked down to ringside. Williams hit the Choas Theory, but his neck couldn't hold the bridge, and Corino kicked out at two. Williams went up for the Flying Kneedrop, but Stevens distracted the ref and LeGrande crotched Williams on the top, allowing Corino to hit the Old School Explusion for 3. REALLY good match.

Match: 89% Crowd: 60% Overall: 74%

ROH Tag Team Titles

Briscoes © Vs. The Prophecy (BJ Whitmer & Dan Maff)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The crowd wasn't really into this match for some reason, but the two teams still put on a really good old school tag team match. After a bit of early dominance from the Briscoes, the Prophecy took over- isolating Mark in the corner. Maff pounded on the Younger Briscoe Brother, but Mark kept escaping the Burning Hammer. Whitmer tagged in and continued to beat on Mark, but the champ hit an enzuigiri to escape and make the tag to Jay. The Older Briscoe got a nearfall on Whitmer with the Jay Driller, but Maff saved. After Mark recovered, the Briscoes dropkicked Maff out of the ring and hit Whitmer with the Doomsday Device, retaining the Tag Titles.

ROH #1 Contender's Trophy

CM Punk Vs. Homicide

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Immediately after the handshake, Punk and Homicide unloaded on each other with punches and forearms. Homicide hit a Yakuza Kick to send Punk to the outside, and immediately followed him out with a Tope Suicida. Punk moved out of the way and sent Homicide into the rails, before tossing him back into the ring. Punk hit an underhook backbreaker for two, but Homicide rallied with a second Yakuza kick for a nearfall of his own. Homicide went for a Cop Killa, but Punk flipped out of the move and hit a Shining Wizard for 2. Punk tried the Devil Lock, but Homicide kicked his way out, sending Punk through the ropes again, and connecting this time with the Tope. Both men were down, but made their way into the ring, where Punk hit a superkick for a two count. Punk signalled for the Pepsi Plunge, but Homicide shoved him off and locked on the STF...only to have time expire before Punk could submit. When the decision was announced, Homicide flipped out, unloading on Punk before officials broke them up. REALLY great match.

Match: 92% Crowd: 66% Overall: 79%

***3/4

Non-Title Challenge

Nick Dinsmore Vs. Samoa Joe

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A bit of a clash of styles here, with the pure wrestler Dinsmore taking on the bruising Joe. The crowd has still not quite warmed up to Dinsmore yet, despite being accompanied to the ring by the Dynasty's Veronica Stevens. Dinsmore tried to ground Joe and outwrestle him to start, but Joe pounded away and took control. Joe hit a massive lariat for 2, but Dinsmore hit a desperation German Suplex for a 2 of his own. Joe regained control with a powerbomb and an STF, but Dinsmore made the ropes to break. Joe dragged Dinsmore into the ring, for the Choke Sleeper, but Stevens got on the apron to distract the champ. Dinsmore rolled Joe up for 2, but Joe hit a another lariat to turn Dinsmore inside out and get the 3. After the match, Steve Corino came out and stared down Joe.

Match: 75% Crowd: 58% Overall: 66%

30 Minute Iron Man Match

"The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels Vs. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not quite as good as their match last month, but that was probably just due to the stips, as this was still an awesome match. After a mat-based opening Daniels took control, working over Danielson and hitting the Last Rites for two. Danielson rebounded with rolling German Suplexes for two, but Daniels was able to hit the Angel's Wings for the 3 to go up 1-0. Daniels immediately pounced, going for the Fall From Grace for two, and attempting another Angel's Wings. Dragon reversed, hooking Daniels and drilling him with a Dragon Suplex to even the score at 1-1. With 5 minutes left in the match, Danielson hooked the Cattle Mutilation, and Daniels tapped to put his opponent up 2-1, giving himself enough time to try to even the score. As time ticked down and Daniels became even more desperate, Whitmer and Maff hit ringside. Before the Prophecy could interfere, however, Doug Williams and Jerry Lynn cut them off, and Danielson held on for the victory.

As good as you would expect from these two.

Match: 90% Crowd: 64% Overall: 77%

***1/2

Overall: 70%

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even better than the last show, with Daniels/Danielson delivering just as I figured, and Punk/Homicide surpassing all my expectations to take Match of the Night. Williams/Corino was also really great, and both Backseat Boyz singles matches were better than I had hoped.

Locker Room scoops will be next to follow up on developments from this show, and then a long string of HITV episodes to build to the next show. At least a couple of feuds were moved along a little on this show, and hopefully that will continue in upcoming weeks.

Locker Room Scoops for the week of March 16th, 2004

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* There is a lot of controversy stemming from the CM Punk/Homicide match at Expect the Unexpected. As of right now, Ring of Honor considers both men worthy challengers, but isn't quite sure how either man will recieve their shot. Punk insists he never lost the trophy, and should be the first to recieve a match with Joe. We will hopefully have a resolution to this situation by the next Locker Room Scoops.

* Homicide was reportedly furious that after the match, CM Punk refused to shake his hand, despite The Notroius 187 laying a post match beating on the leader of the Second City Saints. Punk has requested an interview on High Impact TV to explain himself.

* Christopher Daniels has vowed that the Prophecy will never have a night as bad as Expect the Unexpeted. Swearing revenge on Doug Williams and Jerry Lynn for their involvement in the main event, Daniels claims the Prophecy will rise to power again beginning in Chicago.

* Tom Carter suffered a torn bicep in the 4 corner survival match at Expect the Unexpected, and will be out of action for 7 months. Ring of Honor wishes Carter a speedy recovery, and will welcome him back to ROH when he makes a full comeback.

* Despite turning in a pair of impressive singles matches in Elizabeth, Johnny Kashmere and Trent Acid have both told ROH that they will be concentrating on tag team action. Despite Jim Cornette's proclamation, the Backseats have vowed to get another shot at the tag team titles.

* A Three Way Dance has been signed for Chicago between 3 former ECW almuni. Steve Corino, Justin Credible and Jerry Lynn will face off in a match that is sure to have an impact on the Top 5 Rankings.

* The first of the Do or Die matches will take place during the month of April on High Impact TV, and will feature Rainman and Jason Cross of NWA: Wildside. Future Do or Die matches will include talent from Revolution Pro Wrestling, Stampede Wrestling in Canada and Frontier Wrestling in England.

* Other upcoming matches for High Impact TV include the Briscoes defending the tag titles against Chris Sabin and Jimmy Jacobs, BJ Whitmer taking on Jimmy Rave, and Matt Stryker facing off against Joey of Special K.

Ring of Honor Presents High Impact TV: Episode VII- March 21st, 2004

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Special K (Cloudy, Hydro & Slim J) Vs. Jack Evans & The SAT (Joel & Jose Maximo)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Special K was represented by Cloudy, Hydro and Slim J, but Becky and Dixie were on the outside for support. Evans started out the match with Slim J, and the pair traded strikes before standing off and turning into a breakdancing contest. The crowd popped for that, but Hydro and Joel hit the ring and started with the dives, leading to Special K dropkicking all 3 men out of the ring and hitting a Triple Suicide Dive. Back inside, the SAT got the advantage with the Taffy Machine, but Slim J broke it up with a kick. Evans and Slm J faced off again, more aggresively than before, but Hydro and Cloudy took out the Maximos, and J rolled up Evans for a three. Spotastic, with a deadish crowd. At least we're out of the 20's for the opening match.

Match: 77% Crowd: 30% Overall: 53%

Backstage, we caught up with the newest member of Ring of Honor, Jerry Lynn. Lynn put over Trent Acid for giving him a good fight at Expect the Unexpected, but said he came to Ring of Honor with one goal- the ROH Title- and no one would stand in his way. Addressing Christopher Daniels, Lynn said that he respected the Code of Honor, and wrestlers like Doug Williams and Bryan Danielson, and he wasn't about to let the Prophecy have their way.

74%

Joey Vs. Matt Stryker

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More Special K action, but this time involving the only Special K member even remotely over in Joey (Matthews). Stryker usually brings solid matches too, so this ended up pretty good. Stryker hit the mat early, working over Joey's leg and going for the submission. Joey reversed a knee-breaker into a headlock, takedown however, and knocked Stryker out of the ring with a headscissors. Following him out with a bodypress, Joey took the advantage. Joey set up for a neckbreaker, but Stryker kicked out his knee, taking control and eventually hooking on the StrykerLock for the submission win. Good match.

As we headed to commercial, a video package aired to the old Midnight Express theme, highlighting The Backseat Boyz. Footage of Acid and Kashmere's recent singles matches was cut in with with highlights of Backseat Tag Team Action. A montage of Yakuza Kicks and dives finished with a series showing various T-Gimmicks, finishing with a slow motion T-Gimmick on Mark Briscoe, and a flash of the tag team title gold.

ROH Tag Team Titles

The Briscoes © Vs. Chris Sabin & Jimmy Jacobs

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We got a rare title defense on High Impact TV, and both teams delivered, even if the crowd is still out on Sabin and Jacobs. Jim Cornette tried to run down the challengers before the match, but was just met by "HUSS"ing from Jacobs, and the match was underway. The champs took the early advantage, making quick tags and isolating Jacobs, getting a nearfall with a top rope bulldog from Jay. Once Sabin tagged in, however, the challengers took over, using double teams to wear down Mark. Jacobs hit the Contra Code on Mark, but Jay broke up the pin, only to get a Future Shock from Sabin. Mark was the legal man, however, and kicked out of a second cover. With Cornette urging them on, the Briscoes kicked it into high gear, and finished off Sabin with the Doomsday Device. As the champs celebrated however, The Backseat Boyz hit the ring. Cornette cursed them out, and the Backseats jumped the Briscoes, laying Jay out with a T-Gimmick off the apron.

Match: 85% Crowd: 40% Overall: 62%

Before the show went off the air, we saw CM Punk in his locker room. Gary Michael Capetta asked Punk why he refused to shake Homicide's hand in New Jersey. Punk said that he could say it was because Homicide attacked him after the match, or because he was frustrated over not winning, but that wasn't it. The reason he didn't shake Homicide's hand was because he didn't respect him. Homicide represents everything wrong with society. His gang life was another example of people losing their identity and conforming to society. Punk represents the Straightedge Revolution. His life is superior to Homicide, and because of that he doesn't respect Homicide. Homicide was an icon of gang life and drug dealing and Punk is drug free, alcohol free and BETTER than Homicide.

Fairly good show, with the top two matches delivering in the ring, and Joey/Stryker doing better than I had expected with the crowd. Lynn's interview was better than expected as well, and Punk and the BSB had good segments too.

The major problem occured just after the show. Jay Briscoe suffered a ripped bicep and will be out for 7 months. CRAP. That kind of puts a damper on the tag team titles. Sigh. Well, I'll address what happens with those belts, and with Mark Briscoe in the next locker room scoops.

Next episode has Jerry Lynn, BJ Whitmer and The Ring Crew Express. It'll be up soon...

Ring of Honor Presents High Impact TV: Episode VIII- March 28th, 2004

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Special K (Deranged & Izzy) Vs. The Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The show opened up with Special K in the ring raving, but the loudspeakers were taken over by Poison and the Ring Crew Express hit the ring. Dunn and Marcos chased Angel Dust and Cloudy out of the ring, but Izzy and Deranged jumped them, hitting a double dropkick and working over Dunn in the corner. After an elevated spinkick from Deranged, Dunn made the tag, and Marcos came in to try and rock Special K like a hurricane. That didn't last too long however, as Izzy countered the Unskinny Bop hit a skytwister press on Dunn for three. Average opener, but its a RCE match, so it was expected.

Match: 73% Crowd: 34% Overall: 53%

Jim Cornette hit the ring after the match, clearing out Special K and bringing out Mark Briscoe, with both tag team title belts. Cornette told the crowd that Jay Briscoe was out indefinitely after being attacked by the Backseat Boyz. Claiming he had heard about a possible tag team tournament for the belts, an irate Cornette said that the Backseat Boyz should be banned from the tournament for breaking the code of honor and injuring Jay. Claiming that this injury wouldn't stop his plans, Cornette said Mark Briscoe would compete in a singles match in Chicago, and told ROH to bring on the best they had to offer.

BJ Whitmer Vs. Jimmy Rave

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The crowd is still apathetic toward Rave, but at least hate Whitmer a little for being accompanied by Allison Danger and representing the Prophecy. Rave offered his hand for a handshake, but Whitmer just hit him with a forearm and went to work. Beating on Rave with suplexes and chops, Whitmer got a 2 count with a power bomb, before Rave reversed a second attempt into a rana. Rave hit a quick burst of offense, but a headscissors attempt landed him on the outside, and when he hit the apron again, Whitmer took him back in with the Exploder 98, getting the 3 count. Rave doesn't seem to click with anyone.

Match: 74% Crowd: 45% Overall: 59%

Backstage, after the break, Alex Shelley was talking with Rave about his match, when Nick Dinsmore, Veronica Stevens and Guillotine LeGrand burst into the locker room. Stevens started flirting with Rave as LeGrande and Dinsmore got in Shelley's face. Shelley pointed to the Pure Wrestling Title and said it was his in Chicago, but as Stevens pushed Rave into the bathroom and slammed the door, LeGrande and Dinsmore attacked Shelley, slamming him into the lockers and shoving the belt into his face.

"Barbaric Berzerker" Jimmy Jacobs Vs. Jerry Lynn

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was essentially a match to try and get Jacobs more over, which it accomplished a bit, but these two didn't click as well as I hoped. The crowd was into it more than any other just because of Lynn, though. Lynn offered his hand for the shake, and was met with the "HUSS" hand for a wary shake. Good chain wrestling sequence to start the match, with Lynn coming out on top. Jacobs reversed several big moves for nearfalls, but Lynn hit a Tornado DDT and an Ace Crusher for two counts, but Jacobs hit the Berzerker Boot for a two count of his own. The Contra Code was blocked, however, and Lynn hit the Cradle Piledriver for 3. As Lynn shook his opponent's hand, BJ Whitmer and Dan Maff hit the ring, laying out Lynn with a Hart Attack. Average match.

Match: 79% Crowd: 52% Overall: 65%

Backstage, we closed the show with ROH Champion Samoa Joe. Joe first addressed Steve Corino's Dynasty, saying they were a disgrace to the code of honor he represented as champion and that they would eventually have to pay. Turning his attention to the title situation in Chicago, Joe said he was itching to defend the title again, and he didn't care whether it was against CM Punk or Homicide. Hell, he'd take them BOTH on. Whichever one he ended up facing, however had to know that he'll defend the belt with his life, and they were in for a long night.

62%

Overall Rating: 60%

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, kind of a blah show. Jacobs/Lynn didn't click too great, and Rave continues to underwhelm. Plus the Dynasty segment wasn't great, and Joe's interview was middle of the road. But nothing too offensive or anything. As long as I stay in the 60's, where I've been all the way.

A fairly big Locker Room scoops will be next, with news about the tag team titles, and a final decision on the World Title Situation in Chicago. Plus, the first matches announced for ROH's debut in St. Paul in May. So stay tuned for that, and thanks for the feedback.

Lockerroom Scoops for the week of April 1st, 2004

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* On March 15th, CM Punk and Homicide wrestled to a brutal and emotional 30 minute draw for the ROH #1 Contender's Trophy. Since then, words have been exchanged, but and both men have demanded they get the shot at Samoa Joe. On High Impact TV last week Joe said he'd take on BOTH men. In Chicago, all 3 men will get their wish as ROH presents Round Robin Challenge III.

--- The first match of the night will pit CM Punk Vs. Homicide in a no-time limit gruge match. This match will be for the ROH #1 contender's trophy.

--- Later in the night, Samoa Joe will take on the loser of the first match in a non-title challenge match. Though the World Title will not be on the line, a win over the champ could earn an immediate future shot.

--- In the main event, Samoa Joe will defend the title against the new #1 Contender. Will it be Punk, or Homicide who makes a bid for the belt?

* Even more title controversy exists with regards to the ROH Tag Team Belts. On High Impact TV two weeks ago, The Backseat Boyz attacked the Briscoes, injuring Jay with a T-Gimmick to the outside, because of that attack, the Briscoes have been forced to forfeit the belts, and a tournament will be held to crown new champions.

* Despite Protests from Jim Cornette, ROH officials have ruled that The Backseat Boyz were provoked into their attack, and will be a part of the tag title tournament. On High Impact TV this week, Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere will take on the Ring Crew Express of Dunn and Marcos in a first round match.

* Other first round matches will see The Prophecy Vs. The Rottweilers, The SAT Vs. Special K, and a grudge match between the Carnage Crew and the Second City Saints.

* The first matches have been signed for Ring of Honor's debut in St. Paul, MN in May. The Carnage Crew/Second City Saints feud will reach new heights when CM Punk faces Justin Credible, in a match up of NYC stars Homicide takes on Xavier, and Samoa Joe faces off against an opponent of Steve Corino's choosing. ONE of these matches will be for the ROH title.

* Jim Cornette has negotiated Mark Briscoe into a singles match in Chicago. On April 18th, The younger Briscoe will compete against Matt Stryker, Joey of Special K, and Chicago's own Colt Cabana.

Ring of Honor Presents High Impact TV: Episode IX- April 3rd, 2004

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Slyk Wagner Brown Vs. Fast Eddie

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fairly fast paced opener, with Slyk dominating the early going. After hitting a sidewalk slam and a powerslam, Brown landed a scissor kick on Eddie for a two count. Eddie fought back, but ran hard into a sprinboard lariat for a second count, and Slyk continued to control the pace. When Slyk went for a top rope powerbomb, however, Eddie rana'd out, getting a nearfall of his own. Going up top himself, Eddie hit a moonsault press, scoring the upset over Brown. The crowd politely cheered the legally blind Eddie after the match, but that was the extent of the crowd involvement.

Backstage, Jose and Joel Maximo were stretching in their lockerroom, when the doors burst open, and Special K spilled in, dancing blindly to techno music and guzzling cough syrup. The SAT start yelling, shoving the ravers out of their locker room, but were jumped by Slim J, Joey, Dixie and Hydro. As the rest of Special K looked on laughing, Becky told the Maximos that Special K was going to use them as a stepping stone to the tag team titles next week.

Tag Team Title Tournament- Round 1

The Backseat Boyz (Trent Acid & Johnny Kashmere) Vs. The Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tag title tournament kicked off with a bang, as The Backseats and the RCE put on an entertaining, high flying match. The crowd even got into the match more than expected, pulling for Dunn and Marcos to pull the upset. The Ring Crew didn't get much offense, however, as Johnny and Trent double teamed Marcos to start, before dumping him in the corner and forcing the tag to Dunn. Dunn leapt in the ring, only to get hit with the Dream Sequence, and laid out for 2. Marcos tagged in and got Kashmere set up for the Unskinny Bop, but Acid laid him out with a Yakuza kick, and the Backseats hit the T-Gimmick for the pin. Surprisingly energetic match.

"Hurricane" John Walters Vs. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Matchup between two good technical wrestlers, who unfortunately didn't click at all. Sigh. Walters is also not terribly over, so that didn't help the match either. Oh well. Both men traded reversals to start, with Dragon coming out on top and rolling into an armbar. Walters worked into a standing position, but Dragon whipped him back down, laying into his opponent's arm with knee drops. After a series of suplexes, Walters reversed and hit a desperation German, but when he went for a lariat, Danielson rolled through into another armbar. Walters kicked out of a Northern Lights Suplex at two, but when he went for the Hurricane DDT, Dragon reversed into a shoulderbreaker, locking on the Cattle Mutilation for the submission.

After the match, Walters took the mic and thanked Danielson for a great match, saying he respected Dragon as one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. Walters said, however, that he was on his way to being THE best wrestler in the world, and that his sights were set on the Pure Wrestling Title. Shaking Danielson's hand, Walters said he hoped he'd be able to face Dragon again down the line.

As The pair shook hands again and prepared to leave, the curtain parted and the Prophecy of Christopher Daniels, BJ Whitmer, Dan Maff and Allison Danger hit the ring. Daniels said last week Jerry Lynn felt the consequences of crossing the Prophecy, and he had hoped by now Danielson would have learned to stay out of his way. Saying he was putting Dragon behind him and moving on in his quest to control ROH, Daniels walked away with Danger, smiling as Maff and Whitmer jumped and laid out Dragon and the show went off the air.

Overall Show: 65%

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eh, not a bad show, but I expected Dragon/Walters to be a better match. Oh well. Great segment from Daniels and company saved the show, so I can't really complain.

Next week, the Second City Saints take on the Carnage Crew in a tag tournament match, Rainman and Jason Cross from NWA: Wildside debut in a Do or Die challenge, and Chris Daniels is in action!

Yay, I've been waiting for an update. 80% match quality for Dunn and Marcos- an impressive feat. Looking forward to next update.
