Some IWA-MS stuff...

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting some IWA-MS stuff, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about these shows:

5/24/03 - Spirit of '76

6/27/03 - Revolution (Strong style tournament)

10/02/03 - Huss Man Cometh

11/21/03 - Breaking Balls

Also, how long is the When Hero Met Punk show?

Thanks!

Is this going to be your first taste of IWA Mid-South? If it is I would recommend King of the Deathmatches '03 and Ted Petty Invitational '02 and '03. Their final two shows of '03, Stylin' and Profilin' and Winter Wars, were said to be very good as well.

^ I've heard that as well about the last two shows and damn do those cards look solid.

I'm relatively new to IWA-MS and trying to pick out which shows are worth buying myself, so the only one I can help you with is WHMP. When Hero Met Punk comes on a 4hr tape.

I would say Ted Petty Invitational '02 was the better show. A.J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels, Chris Hero vs. Jimmy Rave, C.M. Punk vs. Christopher Daniels, C.M. Punk vs. Chris Hero, C.M. Punk vs. B.J. Whitmer, and A.J. Styles vs. M-Dogg 20 vs. Matt Stryker vs. Super Dragon are a few of the standout matches.

The entire Hero/Punk show went about 3 hours.

5/24/03 - Spirit of '76

I haven't seen this in a while, but I remember it being damn good. Shelley/Jacobs Ironman match, Chris Hero/Ace Steel, and Punk/Hamrick, I can remember off the top of my head being really great, and I know there's more good stuff than that.

6/27/03 - Revolution (Strong style tournament)

Haven't seen it yet.

10/02/03 - Huss Man Cometh

Includes Cash Flo beating the holy hell out of Mickie Knuckles, a pretty good BJ Whitmer/Alex Shelley match, an AWESOME Nate Webb/Ian Rotten match (seemless flow from hilarious comedy antics between the "Cricket" and Ian (watch the tape, you'll get the Cricket line), one of my favorite indy ladder matches ever between Sonjay Dutt and JC Bailey, and one of the most underrated IWA Mid-South matches of all-time in Danny Daniels vs. Jimmy Jacobs 2/3 falls.

11/21/03 - Breaking Balls

Another really good show, with a really good sprint with Matt Sydal & Delirious, an awesome T2P vs. British matwork match with Arik Cannon/Nigel McGuinness, awesome match between Chris Hero and Colt Cabana (including a hilarious dance contest between 'Bana and a six-year-old), a pretty good IWA debut for Petey Williams against BJ Whitmer, Shelley/Jacobs (which is always a guaranteed good match), and a really fun bumpfest with Webb/Sonjay/Bailey; also includes one of my favorite injury angles in a while with Boz, Bradley, & Daniels breaking Balls Mahoney's neck.

I'd also suggest either of the past two TPI's, Stylin' & Profilin', or Winter Wars 2003 for a newbie, since they all include guys you already know and/or have seen elsewhere, and draw you in easier to the IWA stalwarts.

I just got Quote The Raven and the show featuring the Shelley/Jacobs 3 match series, so I'll toss in my two cents once I get through both of them this week. Jay did a review of the Shelley/Jacobs tape a while back on the main site, so you might want to give that a lookover.

Thanks guys! No, this isn't my first taste of IWA-MS...just watched night two of the TPI 2003 the other night. I just had a chance to get a few shows for cheap, was wondering which are the best.

Thanks for the help!
