Use Your Illusion Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 Anyone heard anything from this album? I heard 'Mono' just today and thought it was a pretty rockin' tune, however Courtney sounded a little out of breath at certain times during the song. Anyone got the album? Reviews/opinions? UYI
Matt Young Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 From my January 3, 2004 topic on this- http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...l=courtney+love This may not be worth starting a topic about, but I found it amusing. I'm currently listening to "Mono", the new single from everyone's favorite obnoxious, loudmouthed, drugged-out, fuck- Randy-Orton-she's-the-real-legend-killer... blah blah etc.- Courtney Love. I've noticed over the last couple years that Brodie Armstrong, the gorgeous Australian-born lead singer of The Distillers, sounds like Love when she sings and was obviously influenced somewhat by Hole (a band which, I'll admit, had a few really good songs). Still, The Distillers are a much better band than Hole ever was, so that's not a knock. Now, on this latest release, we have Courtney Love sounding like she's trying to imitate the Distillers, and in the end it comes out as a horrible, third rate knockoff that shows me that if this single is any indication, Courtney Love's musical quality has taken a complete 180 in the last 10 years since Hole first broke through into the mainstream. That's not what the topic was about per se, but still... it's funny. Karma + heroin + failing movie career= this shit.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Do you have to ask my opinion? I hated the song.
CanadianChick Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 What a rip-off of the Distillers. You should of read this one review of the CD. It was pretty pathetic. "One of Seattle's most underappriciated song writers"? "Watch out Distillers"? Just stupid. Granted, I haven't heard the whole CD, but if Mono is any indication...

It's a joke paper. It's a small step above a tabloid.
Use Your Illusion Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 Well I downloaded a few more tunes from the album and have found Court's voice is more shot than I previously thought. Outside of the rockin' opener, the rest of the album is Courtney trying to just hit a note right. And failing every time. One thing I do admire about Courtney, however, is her ability to make herself out to be much more important to rock music than he actually is. UYI
NoCalMike Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Is it the chick from The Distillers or another band that claimed way back in 93/94 that Courtney Love's entire persona/attitude was a ripoff of her? I can't remember the name of the band that lashed out.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 courtney love's personality is a complete ripoff of the prostitute that's always hanging around the 711.
