Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 How many people does that club hold? 1,000. Pretty damn fast. I've gotten over it and will use the leftover money for the best Prince ticket in the house.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted February 27, 2004 You people need to hear more Zappa. The guy was a fucking wizard on the guitar. Rat Tomago is just minute after glorious minute of this cyclic jam session that encompasses one attitude while not growing repetitive for even a second. It absolutely smokes anything I've ever heard Hendrix do, and that's a lot of Hendrix. "Friendly Little Finger," "The Sheik Yerbouti Tango," "Apostrophe," pretty much all of Hot Rats; ALL of which are masterpieces of virtuoso guitar work, while the rest of his material is full of either groovy rock riffs, or catchy little ditties that get stuck in one's head instantly. The man was a genius. Knocking his chops means you either haven't heard him, or else you have no idea how to play a guitar.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 Zappa must have rolled over in his grave when his daughter married the drummer of Matchbox Twenty. Back on topic... THE DARKNESS singer Justin Hawkins has had to call in police after receiving chilling death threats, according to the U.K.'s Sun. The singer said he got the first letter as the group celebrated winning three Brit Awards last week. Justin revealed: "It was a handwritten letter, it's very weird. It's quite flattering that somebody wants to kill me but at the same time it's very scary. I'm more concerned about my own safety really, you can't go on being nice to everybody because sometimes people take the p*** and they start to take liberties. I don't know who it is but we've got the police involved and CID are checking the letter with fingerprints and all that stuff." According to the Sun, THE DARKNESS' management have now stepped up security around the band, whose debut album, "Permission To Land", has sold a staggering 1.3 million copies. Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted February 27, 2004 How about this Gilmour>Clapton>Hendrix>Frampton>Zappa>Iommi>Page This thread has proven you don't know dick. Clapton admits Hendrix was better than him. And thats takes a lot. I like Claptom, and more specifically Cream, as much as anyone here - but it simply ain't true. rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 Zappa is a good guitarist in the way that Omar from ATDI/Mars Volta is. Technically very good, a knack for making whatever they play sound like it fits right in but still set apart from the truly great guitarists of out time. What they play fits in with the song without sounding like its a vehicle guitarist, which is the mark of a great musician but not neccissarily a great guitarist. People will always go for the great solos over everything else. My two cents, the greatest guitarist of all time is Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. He influenced a lot of new guitarist, he's got great skills both technically and musically and he's produced some of the greatest solos of the 90s. He can turn a song on its head with a few seconds of guitar, and that's the sign of a truly great guitarist, Well, that's my opinion anyways.

Hell I'm a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, and while i do think Hendrix is extremly influential and creative, I like Clapton cause he has a more bluesy approach to music, and does not butcher it like other guitarists who try to play a bluesy sound. Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 I cannot fathom the Jimmy Page hate in this thread. I'm disapointed in all of you. Oh, and as for my two cents about the greatest guitarist ever, I really enjoy Skip James, Django Reinhardt, and Jimi Hendrix.
