Guest OctoberBlood Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 February 10, 2004 - Oscar-nominated Best Picture Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World will crowd DVD shelves on April 20 with its monstrous name and in two separate packages, a basic edition and a two-disc special edition. The basic release will sell for $29.98 while the special edition will run $39.98. Set during the Napoleonic Wars, the film stars cranky Russell Crowe as Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey, captain of a British warship that is suddenly attacked by a French warship, which inflicts severe damage on his vessel and causes several casualties. Aubrey is torn between duty and friendship as he pursues the enemy ship. We don't have any specs on the basic disc, but the two-disc looks to be a beauty for the film, which has ten Oscar nominations. Disc 1 Full Length Feature. Widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 audio. Disc 2 Featurettes: The Hundred Days (69:34 minutes) In The Wake Of O'Brian (20:56 minutes), Cinematic Phasmids (29:59 minutes) Sound design featurette (20:13 minutes) Interactive sound recording demo Six deleted scenes (22:33 minutes) HBO First Look (25:49 minutes) Four Multi-Angle Studies Split Screen Vignette Four Art Galleries Theatrical Teaser and Trailer International Trailer That looks friggin' awesome.
Dr. Tom Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Fantastic movie, BTW, for those who haven't seen it. It was the best movie not named "Return of the King" to come out last year, and I don't think ROTK beat it by much at all.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I'm sorry, but every time I see a clip of this movie I keep thinking of that South Park episode. "Making movies, singing songs and fightin' 'round the world..."
Anakin Flair Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 eh, that movie did nothing for me.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Fantastic movie, BTW, for those who haven't seen it. It was the best movie not named "Return of the King" to come out last year, and I don't think ROTK beat it by much at all. I hated ROTK, but to each his own. Commander was the best movie that *I* saw last year, but I still want to check out Monster, and Mystic River. The hype on those two is unreal.
Guest EQ Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I'm actually surprised that this movie is getting so much buzz. I saw it back when it came out and didn't think it was anything that special. Does look like a cool DVD set though
Kahran Ramsus Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Master & Commander was an amazing movie. I don't know if I would go so far as to say it is better than ROTK, but it is better than the first two LOTR movies.
