Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Every time I fire up any Netscape-based browser, it crashes on my computer. Is this a Microsoft-based conspiracy, or is there any way for me to give you helpful information to determine the source of this crash? I have reinstalled it like, seven times already.
The Man in Blak Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 What kind of error are you getting? Is it a blue screen of death-type of thing, or is it something else?
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 11, 2004 Author Report Posted February 11, 2004 Just a standard XP "This program has encountered an error and must close" type shit. No BSOD.
The Man in Blak Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Er, I got nothing. There's been reports about versions of Firefox / Firebird being hella unstable, though, so - unfortunately - I'd have to point the finger at that, given what I've heard. But that's all I got.

Bullshit. I have Firefox on two machines and it's running perfect. Many other reports of it working fine as well. What exact browser are you using? Netscape, Mozilla or Firefox/bird?
razazteca Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 I had the same thing happen to me when I tried to use netscape navigator a few years ago. This myth is true.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 15, 2004 Author Report Posted February 15, 2004 Currently, I'm running Avant v. 9.00 and it never, ever, ever crashes. Whenever I run the very latest version of Firefox -- or, for that matter, any previous versions -- it crashes shortly after I start it up with one of those zany "This program has encountered an error and must close" dialogues. Every time.
Jobber of the Week Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 You didn't disable all your extensions and shit before upgrading, huh? You're going to have to start it up with the -p extension and make a new profile.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Well, you are making 2 bad moves. First, Dean is a joke. Secondly, stick with Avant. It's great and better than Mozilla or Firebird, atleast IMO.

MrRant Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 A simple way to put it would be uninstall Firefox and delete any profiles that are left on your computer (the Mozilla FireFox folder) and then reinstall.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 15, 2004 Author Report Posted February 15, 2004 But like, I didn't have a profile before, either... It has always crashed, from the moment I first installed Firebird like, six months ago. I just tried it again with Firefox, and it still crashes.
MrRant Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 You get a profile just from installing. Try what I said and then install Firefox clean.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 15, 2004 Author Report Posted February 15, 2004 Alright, I'll try it a lil' later and come back with the results.
Guest Coffey Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Simple Question: Is the Windows XP legit ? As in, did you buy it, open the box and install it...or are you complaining about an illegal downloaded upgrade not working? Sometimes it's the keygen that fucks it up.
Jobber of the Week Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Also, Event Manager logs the error with more detailed information than what you're seeing. Let us know what it says if it keeps happening. To open, open the Run window and type in eventvwr.msc

Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 15, 2004 Author Report Posted February 15, 2004 Faulting application firefox.exe, version 0.8.0.0, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.1106, fault address 0x0003213b. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
MrRant Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Try restoring that file (msvcrt.dll) from the XP CD. Also.. running sfc /scannow from the Run dialog.
