Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Harley.. the plan of Bored's is Jeter at second, Lamb at third. granted.. with the left-handed hitting facing right-handed Yankee pitchers, putting Jeter, who lacks range, on the right side of the infield doesn't seem to be very good
Bored 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Okay forget the Jeter at 2nd thing for a moment. It is still stupid to move A-Rod from shortstop to accomodate Jeter. Jeter is one of the worst, if not the worst, defensive shortstop in baseball. You just trade for one of the best, if not the best, defenisve shortstop in baseball. It makes no sense whatsover to keep Jeter at short.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Wow, two threads talking about the same thing. :| Anyways, it's not offical, and I highly doubt the offices will allow this.

Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted February 14, 2004 I hate the Yankees. Good for you. Ok? Anyways, this is getting nuts. This is NOT good for baseball. It's friggin ridiculous. $200 Mil payroll? They are closely getting to the point where they average $10M a player for 25 man roster. It's not only unfair (MLB needs a fucking cap) it's unreal in a sense of the Yankees can do anything, buy anyone, whenever they want. This is not good for baseball, not good for sports, it's just a fucking laugh fest. Idiot fans all you know... hmm, someones hurt ... lets go buy another player! Lets trade garbage for the highest paid player because we can~! Hmm, we dont have a #5 pitcher, lets go buy a hall of famer and throw hmi in that spot~! YAY!! I am getting sick of it. It's not fun anymore to be a baseball fan when shit like this takes place. [/END RANT]
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Soriano is garbage?
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Soriano is garbage? He's not garbage with the bat, but he is in the field, and he's overrated at the plate.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 I'll steal from an earlier alkeiper post: "Taking a look at Win Shares, A-Rod had 32 last year, while Soriano had 27. " So Arod is almost a 2 win improvement. So the Rangers don't make out too bad here. Shed a monster contract and don't get hurt too much in player downgrade. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 14, 2004 I hate the Yankees. Good for you. Ok? Anyways, this is getting nuts. This is NOT good for baseball. I agree. It's fucking stupid as all hell that George Steinbrenner is the only owner willing to go to all lengths to win. Bud Selig has to put his foot down. Owners MUST spend a certain amount of money (say, 80 mil) or have their team stripped from them. That's fair. Idiot fans all you know... hmm, someones hurt ... lets go buy another player Should we have wheeled Boone out to play 3rd?
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Wasn't it Tampa as they were making less money as a team than Arod did last year?
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Owners MUST spend a certain amount of money (say, 80 mil) or have their team stripped from them. That's fair. I haven't heard the concept of a salary floor yet, and it does have its merits. It's not fair if the owners intentionally load up the team with AAA guys getting paid the bare minimum just because they're not willing to invest in the team's success. As someone struggling to be a Chicago Blackhawks fan, I know what it's like. But the Yankees still spend too much. Damn them to hell

First off, not ever owner has the money George has, teams are in different markets, and secondly, there should be a cap. When theres a cap in place, and Geroge won't be able to buy anyone and everyone he wants, and things get alittle more realistic, the game will be better off. Right now, it's a fucking joke how NY runs its team.

The Cap is not a bad idea. It'd stop all of this "Buy whoever, whenever, whereever" we want BS the Yankees got going. Anyways, I agree - this doesn't make the Yankees the favorite still in my book. Pitching owns offense, and Boston still has the edge in that, and PLUS - they still have a great offense themselfs. Boston is still my pick to take the East. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 What I don't get is why do this trade in terms of the Rangers end? Mike Young was 15th in Range Factor among 2B, a full 8 places higher then Alfonso Soriano and thus is better defensively. Granted, Soriano is better offensively but is losing the defense worth it? A-Rod finished 14th among SS in RF so who would replace him at SS?

The cap hasn't helped other sports at all. Parity in the NFL is due to the lack of guaranteed contracts. For the Yankees, their recklessness will cost them down the road. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2004 Gotta agree that the cap is a bad idea, hell many Patriots players would need to slash money to just stay with the team because of the cap. If that happened in baseball you'd no longer see the Cal Ripken Jr.'s and Tony Gwynn's sticking with one team which is what IMO makes baseball so great, that players can be identified with being loyal to one team.
