Benoit and WrestleMania

Recommended Posts

WrestleMania XVI (2000): Triple Threat with Jericho and Angle

WrestleMania XVII: Singles with Angle

WrestleMania XIX: Triple Threat tag with Rhyno against Team Angle and Guerreros

WrestleMania XX: Triple Threat with HHH and Michaels

3 out of 4 WrestleManias he's had triple threat matches. How does someone get such bad luck?

Jason

EDIT: Maybe not bad luck, per se, but it's interesting and for sure not exactly something someone wants I'm sure.

Wasn't he only in the promotion a month before the WM XVI match? I'd say the WWE did a good job of getting him a title so quickly.

Wrestlemania Tendencies:

Benoit - tends to have triple threat matches

Shawn - tends to have ladder matches

HHH - tends to retain

So basically it will be all that in one.

Excellent point Mr. Zsasz. Benoit was rapidly elevated upon arrival.

Yeah.

What the hell happened?

1 of 10?

Alright.

Benoit - known for triple threat matches at Mania

Shawn - known for ladder match at Mania

HHH - known for retaining at Mania

Happy?

Yeah.

What the hell happened?

WWE's booking became really stupid later in 2000, thus ending Benoit's heel credibility and push to the top (doesn't anyone else still think he should have won the WWE title from The Rock back at Fully Loaded 2000? Yet WWE had to use the excuse that "Jericho, Angle, and Benoit didn't help the PPV buyrate", so they made all three of them lose their matches. Bleh.)

Didn't HHH pin Benoit in one of his first matches for the promotion?

Didn't HHH pin Benoit again at No Mercy during that lil face period which effectively killed off Benoit as a high profile wrestler?

Funny, that.

I think the initial post here proves that Benoit is not a Wm kinda guy. Of the 3 matches he has wrestled there, did any of them really have any kinda build to them? That's why I didn't think Benoit winning at Mania was really fitting for him, as his history there isn't anything special. But what do I know...

Are you trying to say "I don't have a match and neither do you, so why not fight?" is not a good build up? ;)

It's because the guy who was writing the stuff in Early 2000 and the Summer including the very popluar Love Triangle(this was WWE at it's HIGHEST point) with The Helmslys and Angle had enough and left and they put the book in the wrong hands (Stephanie and Gerwitz)

What was the purpose to Benoit being in the Three Dance ANYWAYS?

To get BOTH titles off him without jobbing him.

WM2000, I believe we can excuse WWE for doing since He had only debuted a month before and the only other option was too throw him with the other Radicalz in the Six Man Tag Match against Too Cool and Chyna...

I hate to say it but Why exactly was Benoit and Rhyno even IN the fucking Tag Match last year? It should have been the two established teams Los Guerreros Vs WGTT...Not a thrown together team that really had no purpose other then Benoit had a "thing" against Eddy a few months before.

and lets not even get started with the fuck up that is this year...

Here's a Question

If they went with the WMX route with HHH Vs HBK and Benoit Vs Flair(playing Owen but not winning of course) and have Benoit going over The Game...

I wonder if Backlash wasn't booked in Edmonton, would we even PONDER the reality of Benoit going over in some form?

I still believe Edmonton being choosed for Backlash was just a ploy to get us excited and to slap us in our gullible faces yet again.

Stephie Baby's first big show was Survivor Series.

One of most stupidly booked shows of that time period.

The Doink Finish, The stupidity of Rock going over cleanly just so Rikishi can be booked like a monster post match, Whatever that ME was...

It was an Omen.

The thing about Stuffy booking the shows was, at the time you could TELL that something had changed (for the worse). I distinctly remember reading a report that Stuffanny McHam was incharge of the writing team and thinking that it started at Survivor Series 2000.

RRR: No real reason for this post other than "Stuffanny McHam".

Actually, going into that PPV, Angle was the Intercontinental champion and the European champion. Benoit beat Jericho to win the IC title in the first fall and Jericho beat Benoit to win the European title in the second fall. Angle lost both titles without jobbing.

So you had traded win and another guy losing two titles without doing a single job. If that's not a microcosm of undercard booking in WWE over the last few years, I don't know what is. Even Stephen all the way.

You really think Vince cares enough about us, 5% of his fan base, to come up with such an evil plan? And take a chance with Chris Benoit, who isn't any proven draw, at WMXX and pull off such an evil plan to fuck with us at one of his biggest PPVs in history?
