Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Drafting 12th i have a pretty good idea who i'm going for and what draft strategy i plan to use, which means after two rounds i'll go away from my plan completely and end up drafting stupid like i do in every other fantasy draft i participate in. Like the Basketball Draft? ...that was just too messed up.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 I'm thinking first 3 rounds, go for skilled players at fairly weak positions(possible exception in 1st round), rounds 4-6 get a few capable pitchers, rounds 7-9 get a reliever and fill in my infield a bit, rounds 10-11 fill out the outfield, rounds 12-14, finish my rotation and rounds 15 through whatever, fill up my offense/bench

I've got the 4th pick in this draft. I'm going to use it so that I can hoist up some good players in the first 3 rounds. Although, I don't know if I'll get the 3 I want, but I can damn well try. The rest is to fill with what I need. Which should be easy enough.

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 My drafting strategy is to take the best players available. It just might work. Geez... I wonder why that is. Bastard. I was hoping no one was going to send it before the slated time, so I could get first pick, but NO! YOU AND TWO OTHERS HAD TO SEND IT IN BEFORE THAT TIME~! I hate you the most cause you sent it like two nanoseconds after I posted it up. I will own your team and destroy it from within. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA~! ...that doesn't mean since I've got Commish powers that I'll try to undermind you team. No siree.

The last time you winged it, you ended up being dead last in my last league.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Yeah well if the players lived up to their damned potential I would've done just fine thank ya very much! Troy Murphy had a double-double for averages then got injured and went to shit. I sadly can't remember my other picks which probably says a great deal heh

Troy Murphy had a double-double for averages then got injured and went to shit. I sadly can't remember my other picks which probably says a great deal heh I don't even HAVE a single pick left from the draft. Then again, that ain't happening this time. OH NO SIREE~! I'm taking the goods and running with'em. I really think this draft will be quite interesting. I mean, no one is going to have an all-star team. Al might come close, but I think it'll be pretty even. Trades a plenty will happen because only 80 players will be left for pick up after the draft is over. Also, you'll get a weekly preview of who's facing who every Sunday (for new matchup on Monday). That'll be done up by yours truly.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 I'm thinking I might go for better, proven players this time around unlike the NBA Draft where I went with player who essentially had 50/50 chances of being either great or being sub-par

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 The best available player thing doesn't work in baseball given you have so many positions to fill. Chances are, the best available players through the middle rounds will be pretty good OF or Pitchers but if you draft all OF and Pitchers you'll get stuck with leftovers towards the later rounds for your other positions. In fact, my draft strategy is to completely ignore the OF until the middle of the draft unless there are 2 or 3 Outfielders that manage to fall down a couple rounds in that I want. I don't think it'll be a big problem. After you get past the first few guys, there's not much separating the 6th best 2B from the 20th. Besides, I've got a few rookies I'm looking at. I'll play it by ear. Having a SS/3B as my first pick helps of course.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Christ on a crutch Harley, you plan quite meticulously. I never plan ahead, because whenever I do I end up missing better quality players. First 6-8 rounds take the best available player at any open position, from then on start filling the roster, then in the last rounds go back to the best player available. That usually works for me. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 I don't see the point. Draft plans can go right out the window once you see what everyone else is drafting. For example, when someone first nabs a closer, everyone else tends to dive in right after.

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 You're gonna start out by drafting the Oakland A's rotation then drafting the Red Sox/Yankees lineup Flik? Uh, no. Definitely, no. Not what I was planning at all. I have a great plan. And it will work. Just not what you just said. Besides, I doubt I can draft up the whole freaking Sox and Yankees lineup. Sure they might win, but I need an all-round lineup hitting. Like the Mariners and some other team I'm forgetting (why I have no idea, but I am).
