TSM Head-to-head FantasyBaseball League~!

Recommended Posts

I was surprised to see Ryan Franklin still available the other day when I picked him up.  I doubt he'll turn in another top 10 ERA performance like last year but his WHIP will be low and he should win 12 games at least.

I have to many ? at most positions.  Im safe in the OF and 1/2 of my RP but thats about it.

I'm not surprised. A K rate of less than 4.5 per 9 innings, a mediocre K/BB rate, and being 31 (well, as of tomorrow) spells regression. Plus 34 HR in 212 IP (In SafeCo!) is a big red flag.

I looked at his splits. I saw the 34 HR (22 in Safeco) but Home Runs allowed isn't a stat and ERA/WHIP/Wins are ( 3.53/1.27/11). Plus, his stats were much better down the stretch, which is a good sign in most cases.

The ERA/WHIP/Wins are good, but that's not the real issue. The thing is, predicting pitcher performance is best done by looking at three stats. Home Runs, Walks, and strikeouts. These are important because they are entirely controlled by the pitcher, and they are quite useful in predicting future performance. When Ryan Franklin has bad peripherals like that, I'm not saying those stats will continue to be bad. It means that those stats will effect his other stats. His ERA, WHIP, and Wins.

You also should take into consideration that one of the game's best center fielders left the team over the offseason. That will have a negative effect on hits allowed for the Mariners as a whole.

I don't think Seattle's pitching will hurt that much by Randy Winn playing CF. He's not at the level of Cameron defensively but he's pretty good.

personally I think the whole Seattle team looks like a sinking ship. Except Ichiro, of course.

BTW the first true trade of the Head to Head league was finalized (I'm sorry for not getting it done sooner guys). Check the league to find out who and what just happened because it will be quite a big trade to start us off.

I'm expecting things to get heated because of this.

Yeah I knew pitching was going to be a weakness and considering how good my offense was, I figured I could trade some packages for much better pitchers.

My offense remains strong and I like the addition of Cattalanato from Free Agency. I now have several strong starters in Nomo, Prior, Williams and Redman as well as a lights out closer in Kolb and a great relief pitcher who could see some more save opportunities in Mota. What's even more amazing? I had several pitchers with 4.00+ ERA's prior to today and managed to get my rotation down to a 3.25 ERA averaged per starter and a 2.82 ERA averaged per reliever. My offense remains strong and I've just gotten rotation in to the upper 3 at least IMO in this league.

And I'm probably going to get bitched at for making that trade, you do know that right?

I know Al's going to be somewhere going "you bastard", because his checklist isn't fearable anymore.

I'm not going to bitch at you. I'm going to ask what the HELL were you thinking? Lyle Overbay, Paul Konerko, Randall Simon, Carlos Pena, J.T. Snow, Hee Seop Choi, and Sean Casey are all available for free. And you dealt Woody Williams for John Olerud. Jeremy Affeldt could be a steal though.

So I got screw on giving away the best pitcher just because I fear that the boo boo on his leg could get worst during the season? Go me I increased my ERROR rate along with steals and AVG and OBP.

*shrugs* Just went with a gut feeling on this one, that's all.

Uh, I have this proposed trade, but I have nowhere to go (that I can find) to either accept or reject it.

oh.... That was me. I was going to trade you somebody but I decided against it.

What do you want?  If you want we could discuss trades thru the yahoo messenger.

Ok... Slight problem with that.

My computer (I dub it "Bastard") has officially decided to piss me off.

Had wipe it clean, reboot and everything.

Hence why I haven't replied sooner. When I get it up, we'll definitely talk.

Last year I lost Mike Piazza and Vladimir Guerrero for extended periods of times, so I'm used to this.

That must've been harsh. Those two would've brought you some awesome stats when healthy.

Just plain insane.  You've now managed to trade your solid starter for a crappy closer, and now a middle reliever.  Honestly, I'm proud of you.  I really am.

I said it was insane didn't I? Besides, like I really care at this point. It is the beginning of the season after all.

but to be honest, I think the closer was SO crappy that it's a wash

Oh woo... I made another mistake. Brain dead guy who knows nothing about MLB makes another mistake. Thank you for noticing. Please, take some more shots. Please. Thanks.

I'll make another stupid mistake just so you can prod even more about it. Ok? Ok then.

Flik, I'll trade you Ramon Ortiz for Roy Halladay.  How does that sound?

Halladay has a no-trade clause. Sorry, he's staying.

You know to all your nay-sayers. Is say, I really really don't care what you think. Yet, I'll give you reasons why I did what I did.

My three trades:

Olerud and Affeldt for Williams.

~ I needed someone to fill in as I needed someone to fill out for Beltre. Since I knew nothing, I went for names I knew instead of names I didn't (yes, I know that Speizio was available at the time of my trade). So I told HarleyQuinn that I wanted to trade Williams for someone other than Olerud, but we couldn't get the side players to agree. Finally, Olerud was mentioned and I was about to say no, but HarleyQuinn then tacted on Affeldt. I thought about it long and hard, and was about to say no, when I thought about it. Affeldt is a SP so that gives me now 8 starters if I traded for him. Not only that but Affeldt is registered as an SP/RP, meaning I can slap him as an RP for the season. This was a huge bonus as I can have him take up an RP slot and work another FOUR starters around him. This means I can on one day (if it happens) get FIVE starters up and running. So with that reason, I took the deal. Affeldt was starting as 3rd in the rotation so it also means that most likely he'll be getting about 20-25 games in (if he stays in for all of them). Definitely worth the loss of Williams if I also get Olerud as well.

So yes, that trade was specifically for Affeldt. Might seem stupid to you, but that was my decision and I'm happy with it.

Guillen for Winn

~ I figured that Winn would be the better pick up for me as it adds some more to my SBs, and my Rs. It does take away from my RBI and HR, but worth the loss in my belief.

Worrell for Biddle

~ I needed a closer, and frankly Worrell isn't going to be doing me much good in the style of pitching staff that I have. Hence, I needed a closer. So since I had already gone out and picked up Biddle in roto, I figured I'd do it again. Except this time for Worrell. Razaz agreed simply because he wasn't going to need Biddle.

Overall, I believe I have improved my team for the better. I don't care if you think I haven't. But to play the way I want to, I have.

So :P to you nay-sayers.
