The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Vince McMahon has made an offer to Bret Hart about appearing at WrestleMania XX. The offer was for Hart to appear and give a speech, not to be inducted into the Hall of Fame or be part of the Chris Benoit angle. At this point, most believe that if WWE decides to put the World Title on Benoit, it will happen at Backlash in Edmonton, not at 'Mania. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 And with that... Ends Benoit's credibility... Thank you WWE for killing off Benoit's chance at being a Main Eventer.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Oh come on. You know that Backlash is just as big an event as WRESTLEMANIA XX! Bigger even...since it's his hometown!

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 *Beware: Negativity Ahead* Oh, good. Now HHH and HBK have 2 full months to kill all of Benoit's heat and credibility. And by that time, they'll nix the title change, put him in a feud with Orton, and they can begin work on Edge.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted February 19, 2004 OK, I'm lost. I never knew that Bret was supposed to be involved with Benoit, so how does this hurt him more? Can someone elaborate and help shed some light on the subject for me please?
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 OK, I'm lost. I never knew that Bret was supposed to be involved with Benoit, so how does this hurt him more? Can someone elaborate and help shed some light on the subject for me please? If you are refering to why Bret isn't coming, it is because he isn't fully trusting of Vince just yet. He still hasn't gotten those tapes he was promised by Vince of himself wrestling. If you mean Benoit, we are bitching about him not winning at Wrestlemania XX and instead winning at Backlash. Which kills Benoit's cred.
Guest JMA Report post Posted February 19, 2004 If Benoit DOESN'T win at 'Mania, every member of the IWC will be fully justified in bitching about it. That is all.
Guest KJ Brackish Report post Posted February 19, 2004 WOW! There are going to be some VERY pissed off people if this comes true (about Benoit). A lot of people were cheering for his first wrestlemania title win, whilst others were hoping not. Might this spark yet another "Fuck the Kliq" or "HBK/HHH should die" thread?!? Time will tell DFA PS: That was poetic eh?!? Either that or I sounded like a newscast person.

I still don't like it if they are planning for Benoit not to go over at Wrestlemania.
Guest TheAnvil Report post Posted February 19, 2004 I don't see the problem here, but then again I'm not a sheep who wets his pants at the mere mention of the name of GOD. Benoit will lose the three way, because he's facing two heels (even though HBK is more a 'tweener). HBK will win, and then there will be a Benoit/HBK match at Backlash in Canada, where Benoit's win should be recieved VERY well (much like Eddie's at NWO). I think this makes more sense than having Benoit just win at WM. He'll win the title 1 on 1, and hopefully clean. I think this is better than winning a shitty 3-way at WM. Yes, all Benoit fans are sheep. You nailed us. Dead on. Benoit NEEDS to win at WM. That's it. He needs to. He needs it, the storyline needs it, it makes sense, but HHHBK can't handle not being on top for even 1 second, so of course, screw the fans, screw the people who pay for it, screw the people who want to see something good, we need MORE HHH on top, consarnit. It's flat out mind numbingly stupid NOT to give Benoit the win at WM.

Benoit will lose the three way, No. The virtuous face does NOT lose at the big blow off show so he can win a month after anyone cares in his hometown. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Meh... makes sense with the build they're doing now. They seem to make it look like Number 1 feud: HHH/HBK Number 2 feud: HBK/Benoit Number 3 feud: HHH/Benoit So I'm guessing they think that they can wrap up the HHH/HBK feud for the time being with Michaels going over both guys and wrapping up the HBK/Benoit feud in Backlash. Then most likely Benoit'd drop the title to HHH at Badd Blood to complete the entire build.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Think about this: if HHHBK can convice VKM to have Benoit lose at WM, what's to stop them from doing it *AGAIN* at Backlash? Hometome schmometome, remember Booker/Christian? Yeah... I swear, I *WANT* to quit WWE, but there is always one small redeeming light (right now: Eddie as champ) that keeps me there...god I hate it. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 the backlash plans are horrid, because nothing in WWE seems set in stone, and no one will be suprised if halfway to backlash plans are changed, no title for benoit......goodnight now.
Karc 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Doesn't WWE screw faces in their hometowns all the time? I mean, I know Angle won the gold in Sept. 2001, but that was more due to the "patriotism" surrounding the terroist attcacks at the time, verified when Austin was given back the belt two weeks later. My negativity says that unless the ice melts in Canada and floods half the country, Benoit has no real reason to win in Edmonton either.

I feel your pain buddy. It's the same thing with me. I had actually "quit" the WWE in the attitude era after Bret left but was sucked back in when the Radicals came over. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Well, I guess "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION" will take on a new meaning if Crippler doesn't win. First, the WWE proved once and for all that White people are the superior race And now, they will prove once and for all that Canadians cannot beat Americans at Wrestlemania. I still refuse to believe they are this stupid. I just refuse to believe it.
Guest PowerPB13 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Well, as of right now, I'll be ordering Wrestlemania. And it'll be the last wrestling show I ever watch. I can't come up with a single damn reason to keep watching wrestling at all. -Patrick
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Anyone want to tell me why Bret would want to be involved in a match/angle with two people he hates (Shawn and Trips)? My guess is after six years of avoiding the guys the RAGE~! has subdued. Unless HHH secretly killed Bret's parents, most people don't hate others with the same ferocity after that long for any rational reason.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 I'm probably in the minority here (screw that, I'm definitely in the minority here) but I don't think that Benoit losing at Mania will "kill his cred". While I agree that it'll look better for Benoit to win at WMXX, it's not like he'll be a laughingstock if he wins it one month later. Smarks will love him regardless, and marks don't analyze things like where and when he won the belt as much as smarks do. And I truly think that the pop he'd receive for winning the belt in Edmonton would outweigh the one that he'd receive for winning in NYC. I can see a scenario where Benoit is about to win, but Michaels sneaks in and gets a cheap pin. He wins, but Benoit was robbed. He won't lose credibility if he was the one that deserved to win. That sets up the rematch the next month, and Benoit wins then. Would I want it that way? No. But do I see that happening? Yes.
