cbacon 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Ok, so wrestlemania.com attempted to go over the Undertaker/Kane storyline. Of course there are many holes and questions unanswered such as 'who really killed their parents?' and 'was the whole feud based on a worked shoot with the Undertaker taking the character too far?' Were any of these covered at one point? Anyways here's the "Bloodline" they have up on the site: By simply looking at the past battles between the Undertaker and Kane, it is hard to believe that these two monsters are actually brothers. It's near impossible for a common person to understand that these two men come from the same bloodline. But it's true. Despite their countless attempts to completely destroy the other, the Undertaker and the Big Red Machine share the same mother. And while the true identity of Undertaker's father is unknown to WWE fans, it has been revealed that Kane is the son of Undertaker's former manager Paul Bearer. Kane – thought to be dead by his brother, the Undertaker -- was unleashed upon the world on Oct. 5, 1997, at In Your House: Badd Blood. The Big Red Machine interrupted the Undertaker’s Hell in a Cell match against Shawn Michaels – appropriate because Hell in a Cell is WWE’s most bloody and destructive match; the rivalry between the two brothers has been as bloody and destructive as WWE fans have ever seen. In reality, of course, Kane had not been killed in the horrendous fire, one that claimed the life of the brothers’ mom. But Kane had been hidden for several years, during which time Kane had built up inhumane amounts of anger toward his brother, who has alternatively claimed that the deadly fire was set on purpose and was an accident. But when Kane finally showed his (masked) face in late 1997, he was in no mood to debate. That night in St. Louis, he manhandled his brother, the likes of which had never been seen. In subsequent months, Kane brutalized the entire WWE roster; he set fire to the casket in which Undertaker had been trapped at Royal Rumble ’98. The stage was set for a showdown between the two at WrestleMania XIV. The epic ‘Mania encounter – won dramatically by the Undertaker – was by no means the climax of their rivalry. The two monsters would go on to battle tooth-and-nail in several contests, including the first-ever Inferno Match. At times, they could set their differences aside and work together. When that happened, they were unstoppable. Twice they won the World Tag Team Championship; they’ve also been WCW Tag Team Champions. But when Kane was forced to remove his mask, he became more emotionally unstable than ever. Even though Undertaker was a SmackDown! Superstar, and Kane reigned on RAW, the Big Red Machine accepted Mr. McMahon’s invitation to bury Undertaker alive at Survivor Series last November in Dallas. Kane thought he had ridden WWE of Undertaker once and for all. But has he?
Guest Loss Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Making sense of the history of the Undertaker/Kane characters is an exercise in frustration. There used to be a ScoopThis article about them pre-Katie Vick that was hilarious. I recall Meltzer doing a good write-up too.

cbacon 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Hmmm, could it be that Kane "dated" Katie after his release from the asylum? Was that the explanation amongst the general concensus?
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted February 19, 2004 The general concensus was that none of it made any damn sense. At this point, I'm half convinced Katie Vick is just another split personality of Mark Calloway to go along with Biker Taker and the Dead Man and Amish Warrior Undertaker. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 A friend actually came up with a joking explanation for a lot of Taker/Kane's history. Taker and Kane were brothers, and one day while digging in creepy "Uncle Paul's" things, they found a book of Satanic rituals and black magic incantations...a book with a mind of its own. It compelled Mark to read on, slowly perverting his mind and darkening his soul. While performing one such ritual, he set the funeral home on fire, apparently "killing" his brother Kane and his parents. Bearer gained legal custody of "Mark," and had Kane put away in a state institution...Kane was mentally scarred, so much he thought he was physically scarred. He held great power over Mark, and let him know if Mark crossed him, that he could prove that Mark was responsible for the fire, and could get him arrested. Mark's twisted mind was easily bent to Paul's evil whims--hence, the urn "controlling" the Undertaker. Mark grew up, he became incredibly powerful, able to sustain incredible amounts of pain without flinching. So did his institutionalized brother Kane. Paul secretly had Kane train as a wrestler and even wrestle independent events--when the Katie Vick incident occurred. It gave Kane a nervous breakdown that caused him to sign himself into a mental institution. Seeing a chance to make lots of dough off Mark, he urged him to sign up with the World Wrestling Federation, which he did, under the hand of Brother Love, who coined his ring name and trademark original look... Eventually, Paul would decide to manage the Undertaker himself, although Taker's will was so strong it would eventually break free of the evil influence of Paul and the book itself...enter the American badass... Taker and Kane would team up many a time, Taker battling his dark past, Kane battling his childhood trauma and mental instability. When Taker was under the evil influence, he could always defeat Kane...until now. Taker must now do what he hoped he'd never have to do...to defeat Kane, he must embrace his dark past again. He knows also that he must control it, and not let it control him. --- Well, that's the gist of it, at least.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 22, 2004 That doesn't explain how Kane all of a sudden stopped needing that throat-device to talk. Also, if Paul Bearer is Kane's real dad and Kane is so freakin' big, than Taker and Kane's mom must have been one HUGE woman.

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I really don't think they can add one new thing to this feud...and by having Taker go back to his old gimmick they're proving that
MooreMark 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I liked Andrew's explanation but you knwo that the one posted first is the best we are going to get from the WWE. Does it really matter though..I mean Undertaker is basicly done after Mania if he retires and Kane will have nothing to do. I like how it's going so far. I could have done without the rain though.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I could have done without the rain though. But, as Michael Cole said about the Taker and the Brood hanging Bossman at WrestleMania 15, it's SYMBOLIC! It symbolizes that the Undertaker has the power to put out Kane...using the rain to put out Kane's fire.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 Kane vs Taker won't be a match. It'll be an Industrial Light and Magic show since we've had lightning hit the ring and rain indoors presented to us before the actual Undertaker himself. God, this feud gets more retarded by the minute.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 I mean Undertaker is basicly done after Mania if he retires and Kane will have nothing to do. Well, Kane's win at WM will give him the rub he really needs and hopefully will help him go onto getting another world title shot at Backlash, Bad Blood, whatever,
Guest JMA Report post Posted February 23, 2004 I agree that trying to make sense of the angle is futile. Who came up with the "Kane" concept anyway? Was it Russo? In any case, they hurt the storyline by revealing too much, too quickly. They should've taken things slower and fleshed out the story more.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 25, 2004 I still think they never should have had Kane talk, let alone take off the mask. His whole "mysterious" thing was one of his biggest positives.
