RavishingRickRudo Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 So was Mania 2000 So was Mania X-7.
Guest JRE Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I always was under the impression that 'Mania 2000's heel win was signifying "how the business was changed." Okay, we saw that...now honor tradition for this one!
King Cucaracha Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I hate to sound 'anti-Benoit', because I'm not. But, unfortunately, the pops on Raw for Benoit last week just don't warrant a World Title reign. He gets the odd Benoit chant now and then, and a decent enough upper mid/midcard level pop, but nowhere near World Title level. And I hate to sound like a generic Smark, but it's all the WWE's fault. He ran away from Lesnar and his fat, balding GM friend on SD!, came to Raw, and was booked as little more than a nuisance to the HHH/HBK feud. I no longer care about Benoit's title chase. Oh, I agree with all that don't get me wrong. Which is why Benoit still isn't what Vince is looking for in a champ, which doesn't bode well for his chances of winning.
Brett Favre Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Benoit heel is better anyway. It's the only way they can make 'em really look like a monster badass, sorta like in 2000 when he feuded with Y2J and The Rock.
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Benoit heel is soooo not better. He's gotten _way_ more heat as a face, and his matches get better responses.
Guest Askewniverse Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I think that Eddie/Angle will be the main event at WMXX. I think Eddie-Angle should be the main event. In my opinion, a WM main event should always be a singles match for the WWF/E World title.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 The best thing to do before HBK pinned Benoit on RAW was for Benoit to win at Mania and then beat HHH again at Backlash. For full-on Damage control, Benoit should kill Michaels at Mania. Like KILL. Enough to put him on the shelf for at least a month (Michaels can rehab his ACL). Something big, something back-related. Just put him away. Then HHH can come out after Mania and say "I always get the belt back, I got it back from Michaels and I got it back from Goldberg, you're not the exception Chris, and I'm going to take it back at Backlash". Then after Benoit beats HHH he can go on to face Michaels who is pissed off that he didn't get a chance to get his revenge on HHH at Mania. There's a lot of cards you can play in that feud to keep it going until Bad Blood. Benoit beats Michaels at Bad Blood and goes on to Summerslam (which is hopefully in the Skydome) to defend his title once again. Of course, this runs the risk of making Benoit a heel, but that risk has always been there since Michaels got involved and is still positioned as the #1 face.. This is a good idea. Too bad it won't happen.
Lil' Bitch Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I'd rather have Benoit vs HHH at Backlash than Benoit vs Michaels. Me too. At least HHH retaining makes more sense. Michaels winning would just piss me off even more. I think Eddie-Angle should be the main event. In my opinion, a WM main event should always be a singles match for the WWF/E World title. I agree, but so should the RR winner. By the way, there should be at least one world title change at WM. Both retaining is fucking retarded.
Scroby Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I got a question, is the only WM where a Royal Rumble didn't win the title was WM 2000? Thats counting after they started doing that...wait I just answered my own question, HBK didn't either when he faced Nash. Angle vs Eddie shouldn't be the Main Event, it should be before the main event. Beniot's winning the title is more important than if Eddie retains or looses the title, I think anyway.

EdwardKnoxII Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I just flat out refuse to believe they'll end the show on a downer by having a heel win the final match on the card. WrestleMania 2000 Wrestlemania X-Seven. Well to fair the fans at X-7 didn't buy it as a heel turn and cheered like crazy when Austin won. And as dumb as the ending was you really can't say a heel won.

The guy that said that Benoit will NEVER get another shot at the belt and WON. So Benoit having lose had to jump the RAW to get a shot. I think it was dumb that have Heyman pissed at Benoit for jumping to RAW. Vince pissed at him or not. Heyman should be happy and gloat about it and rub it in Benoit's face that Heyman won and Benoit is a loser. Not saying that's what I want to happen but, in storyline terms that's what Heyman should be doing.
Enigma Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Michael Cole said Angle/Eddie would be the main event at Mania on Smackdown.
Guest Ray Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Wrestlemania X-Seven. Now that was a shitty ending if there ever was one. Nonsense! The ending perfectly fit with the epic story they were telling.

Bisch and Austin kidnapped him in the parking lot after the Rumble, threw him in the trunk of their car, and brought him to Raw? Yeah that guy. The guy that said that Benoit will NEVER get another shot at the belt and WON. So Benoit having lose had to jump the RAW to get a shot. Or, he could have made Heyman's & Brock's lives a living hell until the had no choice but to give Benoit a shot @ Brock for the title.
Tawren Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Wrestlemania X-Seven. Now that was a shitty ending if there ever was one. Nonsense! The ending perfectly fit with the epic story they were telling. Just because it fit didn't mean it didn't suck. Vince being involved, Austin cheating, heel winning the main event...that was what made it suck to me. I like clean finishes, this was FAR from a clean finish. I hated it.
Guest Ray Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Just because it fit didn't mean it didn't suck. What? You admit that it perfectly fits the psychology of the match, yet you still say it sucks? Vince being involved, Austin couldn't beat Rock. He tried everything and nothing worked, so he did the one thing we wouldn't expect and joined his former enemy. It's brilliant storytelling. Austin cheating, Austin had to cheat, since he was so desperate to win. heel winning the main event... Yeah, because you can't possibly like a heel winning. that was what made it suck to me. It shouldn't. I like clean finishes, this was FAR from a clean finish. "Clean" finishes are overrated. This finish perfectly fit this epic story of desperation and moral choices. I hated it. Pffft. Knee-jerk reactions to run-ins suck. Sometimes they work. It worked here.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Austin/Rock at Mania 17 was IMO the best Main Event in the history of WrestleMania...bar none.
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 It "sucked" because it started a chain of events which led to the company sucking copious amounts of ass for years.
Guest Ray Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 It "sucked" because it started a chain of events which led to the company sucking copious amounts of ass for years. See H, Triple and his refusal to turn face.
Tawren Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Ray, I get the point of it, and yes it makes sense. I just really hate it. Especially the Vince being involved part. It just really sucked to me. I can enjoy heels winning, I just really didn't like it hear.
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 See H, Triple and his refusal to turn face. Ok, and this stops Austins heel turn in his hometown from sucking and the fans not wanting to boo him and the crappy programs which followed which ultimately led to the InVasion angle thus making it a failure... how? You just gave a reason why it did.

Austin3164life Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 You know what? I don't even give a fuck about who wins the goddamn match anymore. All this speculation is pissing me off. When people start responding to it with negativity, it just gets worse. I'll watch the match at Wrestlemania, and if fucking Gobbledy Gooker does a run-in and wins the belt, I still won't give a fuck. Yeah, uh, what that guy said. Seriously, the WWE has gotten me not to care about Chris Benoit, any way possible. EDIT: Oh, and Austin/Rock WM 17 >>>>every other Wrestlemania match (even Austin/Bret and Savage/Steamboat)
Guest KJ Brackish Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 The most likely thing that will happen is the following at WrestleMania. This is obviously my opinion, but I think it's the most likely. HBK will win the title at WrestleMania. Drop the title after (ala. Losing His Smile Speech.) thus having a vacated World Title. Benoit and HHH both want the gold and thus, history writes itself all the way to Backlash where these two will battle it out for the World Hvwght Championship. What do you guys think?!? Although you may not agree with HBK winning, you have to agree it's probably the most logical. HBK's last WM, let him go out with a bang. DFA

He "ran away" from Brock and Heyman? That's certainly the impression I got. Why else would he suddenly stop his chase for the belt he wanted for four years?

Guest Anglesault Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Although you may not agree with HBK winning, you have to agree it's probably the most logical. At this point, probably. But only because The Clique destroyed Benoit's title chase. It went from Benoit's chase for the WWE title, to Benoit's chase for that other belt, to Michaels' feud with HHH, to HHH being screwed by having to fight THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND, THE SHOWSTOPPER, THE ICON, THE MAIN EVENT....and that short guy who is irritating HHH.
