rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 IMHO, the main problem with the new style is that they are slowly trying to readjust fans to a new, slower, less spotty style. While this is fine for regular fans, it means that fans from a year or so ago will tune in for an occassional match that takes their interest and get bored by it. For example, say a fan who liked WWF in 2000/2001 decides to watch WMXX round a friends house. I know that WWE 2004 < WWF 2001, but when he watches the macthes, they'll bore te hell out of him, with no spots or bloddy brawls to catch his interest. Guest Loss Report post Posted February 25, 2004 Which is fine. I wholeheartedly support this movement, because it bases getting a match over on creating a relationship with the audience and exploiting that relationship to sell tickets, not just the shallowness of wowing them with highspots that do nothing to develop a character. That said, slowing down and telling a story doesn't mean locking in a hold for several minutes at a time, it just means constructing a match that makes sense, moves along and builds to a finish. I don't think WWE should be opposed to highspots though. Guys like Rey can actually build to them in a meaningful way, and the wrestlers should be allowed to be unique. Guys like RVD though, who work like a video game instead of a wrestler trying to win a match, don't get quite as far though. WWE needs to push a product that encourages fans to get emotionally involved in matches to see who will win instead of watching matches to see how 'good' they'll be. It's this mentality that has put WWE in the position where they can no longer top themselves.

Vince doesn't realize that when the style was slower and less spotty (say in the 80's for example) there we're more colorful characters and guys like Hogan to hold the weight. The main emphasis of the product was simply on characters aimed at children, and now that has changed drastically. This is why it is harder to keep fans interested in the "slower" style, especially because their core fans are ones that want to see more "wrestling". By "wrestling" I mean all styles, like spotfests, grappling, strong style, lucha, shoot, etc. etc. The WWE is so worried about the in-ring product that they need to quit worring about that and leave that up to the wrestlers themselves. This further proves the point that a vast majority of the younger guys in the company do not know how to work.

I've seen so many marks for the Angle/Benoit/Bret/Dynamite/Whoever style of mat stuff that I was getting unsure if anyone ever "gets it" that there's room for everything in this fed. Not just various forms of HHH (like we have right now) or even various forms of Benoit.
