Eclipse 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 I hate having 56K. Well, my friend gave me the install for CS Mod, Version 1.5. I installed it, and it installed it fine. I haven't installed the server, so I will be getting it from my friend, who already has it. Well, I tried playing CS, and it said that I had an error with client. dll. I then found out that if that happens, I need the latest Half-Life executable. I DLed the update, and it was short, BUT. That isn't the update. I have to DL a file over 83MB in size, and I am not about to wait like....70 years for it. I know I will have to do that for updating CS. Is there any way I can get them updates a faster way? MrRant 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Have someone with broadband download it and burn it to a CD. You'll never be able to run the server on a 56K.

Eclipse 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2004 Well, I got the update... But.....ok. I downloaded TeamBOT, and I wanted it to work. I put the folder that unzipped from the TeamBOT download into the HL directory. It won't work. Where do I put it to load the bots when I make a LAN Game? Damaramu 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2004 I can't get the steamclient to work. Therefore I cannot download 1.6.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2004 The latest version of CounterStrike is 1.6 and runs on a network called Steam, which is kind of like a more up to date version of Half-Life merged with an AIM-style buddy list and automatic updates. The installer for Steam itself is like half a meg but the actual game files have to be downloaded and are huge. If you want, here's a download with both Steam and everything needed to play C-S in one file, but it's almost 380MB. You're going to have to have a friend with a fast connection download it and put it on CD for you.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Yeah I download that stuff but everytime I load it up it says "Error: Could Not Connect to Steam Network"
Guest BDC Report post Posted March 5, 2004 The steam network has been screwed lately. They don't have enough servers to keep up with growing demand. In fact, they rushed the release of steam supposedly to meet the first HL2 release date. I play Firearms (www.firearmsmod.com), which is a more military version than CS, and I have to deal with this crap ALL the time.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Yeah I download that stuff but everytime I load it up it says "Error: Could Not Connect to Steam Network" Do you have a really strict firewall going? Like P2P programs, online games use odd TCP ports and stuff that some security programs block for paranoia and many college network administrators intentionally block to keep the students from bringing the entire network to a crawl through games.
