Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital

Recommended Posts

Shit... I almost watched it tonight, but I skipped it because I thought it had already been underway for a couple days and I didn't want to jump in in the middle.

I love Stephen King's books and movies/mini-series, so I hope they re-air the episode, maybe immediately rpeceding the next one.

Interested to hear about this? Was it anywhere near as good as the original? How much did they change it (allthough I suppose like many remakes it would start similar and vear off as the program progresses).

Still don't like the idea of making it considering the original is one of the best TV things I've ever seen. But I suppose "Americans don't like subtitles and foreigners"

My friend has the original Danish mini-series on Laserdisc, and it is out of this world good. This remake is, so far, a mere shadow of the original.

The original was described by a critic as being "like ER on acid". I would agree with that.

They should have just shown the damn thing over here and not bothered with remaking it. Americans would accept the original, I think, subtitles or not.

It's not really a miniseries. It's more of a short TV series telling a story. The first episode was two hours but the remaining 13 hours will be one hour episodes every Wednesday at 10 PM Eastern.

I know of the original, but I've never seen it, so I can't compare them. I'm more leniant on American remakes of Foreign films. I'm one of those people who have no problem with watching foreign films with subtitles, but the majority of a country(not just the US) isn't into readng subtitles. Then you have the whole cultural difference, which will affect the enjoyment of the majority watching outside of said culture. People should be able to watch foreign films with subtitles, but most simply won't.

I suppose the Danish/Swedish amniosity which plays well in the original would be somewhat lost. Even so it stands up well without knowing the cultural significance of some points.

I agree, why not show it in original form but the TV companies seem to be under the impression that your 'average american' won't enjoy it

Sadly, that's true for the most part. Of course there's the exception of Crouching Tiger; Hidden Dragon, which somehow became a minor hit in the US despite being subbed.
