Guest thebigjig Report post Posted March 4, 2004 I didnt see this posted anywhere... so here goes, from cinescape.com Hours before the news hit the trades, IGN FilmForce broke the word first that actor Gary Oldman had been cast as Lieutenant Jim Gordon in BATMAN BEGINS. Oldman beat out other rumored contenders such as Chris Cooper, Dennis Quaid and Kurt Russell. Warner Bros. issued a press release concerning Oldman's casting last night and the news was then picked up by the industry trade magazines today.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 I would rather see Cooper as Gordon and Oldman as a villian. Gary Oldman is one of the best heels in the business and they cast him as the good guy?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 4, 2004 I believe Chris Cooper was their original choice, but he turned it down. The choice must've been down to Dennis Quaid or Oldham, because Quaid was rumored to have the role a few days before Oldham was announced.

And Cooper's an underrated character actor. He woulda made a great Gordon. Still, I can't complain too much about having Oldman in the film, can I?

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Just wait until we find out the rumor about Batman going British is actually true and not just stupidity. :notices a large group of batman fans with weapons glaring at me:
spiny norman 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 I heard this news about 24 hours ago, I am surprised it took so long to surface here. At any rate, this is an exceptional cast. I just hope the film lives up to its expectations, which will be incredibly hard for it to do.

Tully316 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Does anybody think that this movie will bring as much hype as did the first one back in the 80's?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Maybe not to the degree of the 89 film, but yes I expect it to receive quite a bit of hype. It's not just a comic book movie, it's a Batman movie. Batman is second only to Superman as an Icon.
Guest BDC Report post Posted March 5, 2004 I think Chris Cooper would've made a terrific Gordon. I thought he was spectacular in Seabiscuit and October Sky. Oh well.
Guest thebigjig Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Does anybody think that this movie will bring as much hype as did the first one back in the 80's? If they can make a Spiderman movie with a little known actor and a washed up actor, and make it a mega blockbuster, anything is possible And as awesome as this cast is, all of them put together cant match the coolness of jack nicholson
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Yeah because they will actually ACT, instead of hamming it up like Jack did.

And it doesn't matter who played SpiderMan, unless it was an old man or something. It was a SPIDERMAN MOVIE. That was all it took to bring the first people to go see. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Gary Oldman!!!~~~ Awesome! Another reason it's a good choice (besides the fact that Gary Oldman kicks ass) is that he's commented he doesn't want to do villian roles. Now that he's got a high profile non-villian role, something tells me he's gonna be bringing his A-game to the table.

There can be no gleeful overacting or scenery chewing from him, and I can't wait to see him adapt.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 A big fan of Oldman(Fifth Element, True Romance, The Professional, etc.) and I also can't wait to see how he will adapt to the character of Gordon.
