Latest On TNA TV Deal

Recommended Posts

-The latest rumors on the TNA television front are that the company is mulling over a Fox Sports Network contract. Some insiders say that if the company decides to accept the deal, they will end up holding their television tapings in Orlando, Fla. Of course, the worst thing about an FSN deal is that the shows would be preempted on a regular basis because of regional sports coverage. Wrestlers are excited about the potential deal because they believe the company would be forced to extend their current contracts. Most of the TNA deals are for 26 dates, and most of those deals would expire quickly if the company starts running two nights per week. Of course, there is always a chance that TNA will tape several weeks of television at a time, but most of the wrestlers are at the point that they believe any television deal is good news for them.

Well, I get that station, so that's better for me. I don't get the Sunshine Network.

Just about everyone gets a Fox Sports Net Station.

I get one on Directv, oddly enough its Comcast Sports Net, but they do carry Fox Sports Net programing other than their O's, Wizards and Caps games.

And Id watch TNA if it were free.

This sounds like a much better deal than that shitty WGN deal from a few months back.

I'm confused as to what this Television show would be...

The article talks about them running two shows a week...which means they'd still be doing the weekly ppvs.

Now...with their seeming to want the ppvs to be match-brief backstage interview-match-brief backstage interview-match...and so on...some kind of TV would probably be a good idea for storyline purposes. It could try and push the wednesday shows as an actual event...with storylines and matches that lead up to the show.

My confidence in that:

A: Working

and

B: Them sticking to that

is very low...and will be until they show me that they understand a few basic ideas in their product.

1. Jarrett needs to drop the title. The match with the hasbeens isn't coming. Take the damn thing off.

2. They have enough talented people that the shows should be good every week...and when you bring in guys from AAA and Canada...and the show is better than usual with NONE OF YOUR OWN TALENT ON IT...that's not good.

3. There is dead weight to be trimmed...and underused talent to be pushed all over the place. It's great that Styles and Abyss are in the think of things...but it's starting to actively piss me off that Truth is stuck with overpaid crap like B.G. James and Konnan...and CM Punk is somewhere below that.

Styles, Abyss, Punk, Truth, Sabin, LowKi, Daniels, Skipper, Dutt, Kazarian, Shane, Kash, AMW, Diamond and Swinger, Naturals and even the "WWE rejects" like Raven, Rhodes, DLo and Jarrett (who needs to take some time off from the show...and get his priorities in check. Jarrett may not be a great worker...but he's certainly better than what he's done in a TNA ring) provides ample talent to provide an actual entertaining alternative...

Oh yeah...and they could pretty much have their choice of indy talent to bring in for at least a show or two to freshen things up. Not everyone will want to sign a TNA contract...but they've gotten away from having fresh blood on the shows (with the exception of the X Cups) and the same stale taste is permeating TNA that has RAW and Smackdown for the last year.

They could tape like a month of tv tapings at a time at Orlando like WCW used to do for WCW Worldwide, but there would be some problems. The results would get leaked and then you would pretty much now what is going to happen on the ppv. If something happens to one of the guys on the taping and they get injured or aren't with the company any more then they would still be on the tapings and that would be a problem, especially if they are an integral part of the show. If it was just a match or something they could cut it out and show a video package I guess.

-edit- Thumbs up for them getting out of Nashville though if this happens, although I would like to see the tapings come to Dallas for my own greedy reasons, besides the fact that we have one of the best wrestling crowds.

For whatever it's worth, I was watching USA Wrestling (Bert Prentice's promotion) last night on Comcast Sports, and they aired TNA "Wrestling Reinvented" ads several times.

That may be because of the connection with Bert Prentice and TNA, or it may be because of the possible TNA TV deal, or maybe both. Don't know, just thought y'all might want to know.

I was under the impression that once they got a REAL TV deal, they could just stop with the weekly PPVs.

I wish that they would get a bigger ring. I think the action would be much better if the wrestlers could actually move. That 16x16 piece of monkey crap makes everyone look worse, and it makes TNA look like WCW

I also think taping more than one show at a time is a horrible idea as well. I wish WWE would tape Heat and Velocity on different nights than RAW and SMACKDOWN, but that will never happen

Because who the hell would come for it?

I don't know many people who would rush out to get a ticket to see Billy Gunn vs Jobber 12.

Also, a tv deal wouldn't bring in enough revenue so they would need to keep running the PPVs I'd imagine. But it would allow them to perhaps try some other venues to give the hometown crowd a break.
