UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I know I'm gonna get shit for this. Bradshaw, known hazer and largely unmotivated worker has really sucked, or at least had no entertainment value, since early 2000 for me. Not since he was stiffing the Hardys and E & C and delivering somewhat funny promos with Faarooq. His team was boring. His RAW "hardcore cowboy" singles push sucked ass. His recent change to "blonde hair" APA member blew too, as his singles work was not entertaining against the likes of A-Train, Show, etc. BUT... We like heels. We like cocky asshole heels. We like mainstream attention to WWE. We hate Bradshaw. We wanna cheer Eddie. This "money-wise tycoon" Bradshaw can work...IF... Bradshaw's ring-work is "smash mouth". By this I do not mean a few Clotheslines from Hell that are predictably setup by an opponent charging into the corner and missing, and Bradshaw running off the ropes. I want Vader/Stan Hansen ring work. I want 1999 Acolyte Bradshaw, kicking people in the face, occassionaly stiffing the youngens, powerbombs, clotheslines, chairs, bats, and more chairs. I want Bradshaw to come off as believing in himself, that he is correct. I want the 'net to hate his "scientific" style, or lack thereof, but enjoy his asshole "I'm on MSNBC" crap. So far, so good, IMO. He may have a shitty track record. But I think he's on the right track. Would I make him WWE Champion? HELL NO. Does he deserve a main event TRY? Hell yes. He's been in WWE for 8 years. If it sucks, he'll go back to Velocity and job to the FBI, like Hardcore Holly. Can we try to be optimistic? :::2 weeks ago::: "SMACKDOWN HAS NO HEELS!! Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Banky started a thread 3 topics down....although not titled IN ANY WAY TO SAY WHATS IN IT so I won't say you're too blind to notice.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Hey, my bad. But not only is my post better...but actually gives a title to the topic at hand. Heh. At any rate.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I agree - a great push and "smash-mouth" style would up Bradshaw's in-ring work and overall entertainment factor a few notches. BUT... What about the casual fans who watch him on MSNBC? I'll just say that I find it funny that the people that try to tell me that "You know it's all fake, don't ya?" are the ones that have the hardest trouble comprehending that a gimmick does not reflect a professional wrestler's personality. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Methinks those that watch him on MSNBC could care less about pro wrestling. Not everyone, but a large majority. The character isn't really trying to "draw" fans from MSNBC, it's more likely to freshen his stale character, provide a new heel challenger, and let him try to be entertaining by creating heat from a talent he has. Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted March 26, 2004 It's not as if his gimmick would garner a news story/ies if Bradshaw was a big-time player in financial planning, as The Undertaker rising from the dead did not. Unless he's a loveable heel (i.e. the biggest heel that Eddie Guerrero could've been; which wouldn't work for Bradshaw), keeping a low-profile, or playing the token superhero-esque babyface (which wouldn't work for him either) would be the best "business decision". But hey, what do most people that watch MSNBC know about gimmicks that work?
Guest JMA Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Bradshaw is on Fox News, not MSNBC.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Bradshaw has appeared on MSNBC before Fox News. Apparently the "new show" mentioned tonight on Smackdown! that he has is a segment on Fox News.

Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I enjoy the whole situation. The Bradshaw push is the best thing to happen in professional wrestling.

Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Someone on CRZ's board mentioned they should call him "JB Layfield", which sounds way more business-like than John Bradshaw, or whatever they're calling him now.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted March 26, 2004 The name "Bradshaw" is too 'country' to sound anything like a businessman.

Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I'll say this... I've NEVER been a fan of Bradshaw, going back all the way to his days as Justin Hawk. But I'd be lying if I said this new character direction doesn't have a lot of potential. If we have to have a Bradshaw singles push, I'd rather its as an evil financial analyst than as the hardcore homoerotic cowboy we got 2 years ago.

Beast 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Gotta say, I could not believe it was the same Bradshaw. I used to hate him in the APA, but I love this gimmick. I think it's great, I love the cowboy hat, his new music, so I'm giving his main event push a chance. I was surprised that I enjoyed his new character and promo, but I did. Better than what we had before, which was a crappy wrestler with a stale gimmick. He may still be a crappy wrestler, but at least now his promos and his gimmick are a refreshing and enjoyable change of pace. Plus, wait until he actually wrestles with this new gimmick before you crap all over him, he might change his style a bit to accomodate it. You never know. No one here is saying he's suddenly gonna become a workrate machine, but the idea that he might change things up a bit isn't out of the question. Stranger things have happened.
