John "Bradshaw" Rules...

Recommended Posts

yknow, we've never heard bradshaw cut a long promo like that beofre, it got a little boring, but he came off as intelligent and cocky. as for being a main eventer thats cuz sd doesnt have enough heels, so we get booker t (one of the most over faces on raw for about 2 years until they killed his push at wm 19 and kept putting him in the tag ranks and feuding with mark henry. and now bradshaw as a main event heel. now tell me again, why did they send triple h back to raw? (not that I am extremely mad about that, as he would have squashed eddie for the title sooner than later). Clearly even the wrestlers in real life, think of raw as the major league.

what has become of sd?

Bradshaw's promo was pretty good last night. I'm actually looking foward to seeing what he does. I just don't know why he's doing this gimmick. Isn't he a Republican? Then why is he playing a heel who acts likes a stereotypical Republican (hell, he was almost mimicing Bush)?

For any of this to last, however, he needs to improve in the ring. See Cena, John.

Should be fun, either way. Either trainwreck fun or 'I shouldn't like this, but I do' fun.

If it gives Bradshaw the motivation to try and put more effort into his matches, then this can't be a bad move. He's a decent/half-decent talker, he's a heel on Smackdown, at the very least the character could be some comic relief.

This is a gimmick better suited for the midcard, I think. There's a reason why IRS didn't get title shots back in the day.

Remember, No Way Out had a better storyline around Eddie with a better heel invovled (and had an actual supplementary storyline beneath it too), and it still did dismally. It didn't help that there were maybe three storylines total on the card that people gave a crap about to a significant degree, but Judgment Day is going to run into that same problem with Smackdown's current roster if they're not careful.

Smarks and Sheep seem to go hand and hand.

I remember when the Cat is coming promos started to air and everyone was like "~The CAT!!!!!1" ....Look how good he turned out :P

I'm not trying to put anyone down though, you know wrestling is in the shitter when ppl are quick to jump up and down over 100% grade A wrestlecrap like it's the funniest shit since dave chapelle.

Here's hoping they give Bradshaw his 5 seconds of fame with a title shot and then release him to Fox for good.I will not cheer or boo him,I will change the channel.

How can you give it a chance? I mean, it's a frigging cosmetic change. He's still a Bah Gawd Hoss. He's still the same CRAPPY wrestler.

Hulk Hogan has always been the same crappy wrestler. But one of his characters had so much appeal with the marks that he could work it for 7 years and nobody cared.

I think I figured out why so many of us (myself included) like this character:

1) It's grounded in reality. Bradshaw really does appear on Fox News, he really did write a book (even if WWE had to publish it for him.) People like angles grounded in reality, because the only way kayfabe can exist in this industry now is to play off reality.

2) It's old-school. Really. The cocky-assed heel with a lot of money who tells crowds how much better he is than everyone is always over, especially with that Texas oil baron kind of gig they have going for him right now.

The "pretentious high-culture rich heel" bit has been done to death in WWE because of Vince McMahon. But it's been a long time since we had a country guy who sold out and went big city. But that wasn't an uncommon idea in the old territorial days.

You nailed it, it's grounded in reality and he's dialing up his philosophy and beliefs up on the dial as part of it.

It's not just a corporate character, it's a guy who sold out from being a common man to a corporate jerk. Not just any corporate jerk, but an opportunist who will lie to you and screw you over if it means he'll make an extra buck.

The country boy selling out to the city is also a big piece of it.

He had a great justification, he wasn't getting ahead by being a nice guy and having fun.

It was a plausible extension of the Bradshaw character that made it a lot deeper and more interesting, and that's why it works. It wasn't just them giving Bradshaw an Iraqi flag, there's multiple reasons to hate him, both in reality and in the kayfabe world.

It doesn't hurt that he's got Bush's smirk down, either. His character toes a fine enough line to remind Democrats of Bush (and thereby getting heel heat), while seeming to parody Bush (getting heat from Republicans).

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking

After seeing SmackDown! this evening, I can actually have a valid opinion on the matter.

I love the gimmick - rich, financial planner tycoon. Although the "financial planner" part of things doesn't have a very nice ring to it in that phrase.

You've got to wonder, though - this happened as a result of WWE letting Ron Simmons go. What would they have done for the Judgment Day Main Event has The APA stayed together? Because if it hadn't been for Simmons' release, they damn sure wouldn't have been split-up.

The 'sell-out' part of the gimmick, and the way that it has come to pass, is great, even if the Judgment Day Main Event might be not so, unless we're pleasantly surprised. At least it's not The Undertaker squashing Eddy. Yet.

And I'd love to see the Clothesline From Hell countered into the Rolling Suplexes.

How did Eddie Vs. Brock do dismally?

It was only given a few weeks of buildup due to the Rumble being locse to No Way Out.

-It cemented Eddie as a main eventer and as the WWE Champion.

-It produced a **** match.

-It gave tremendous excitement to what we thought would be a nice Goldberg/Lesnar battle at WM.

-The crowd heat was incredible.

-Eddie has been drawing more $ (or so we hear?) since his title win, which the fans loved.

As far as build goes, a great segment or two was about it.

As far as my opinions on the actual match, well, go here

Indeed, we expected Brock/Goldberg to be mediocre, at the least.

The crowd heat (for Eddy/Brock) was great.

And as for $, well, good for him.

There is no WAY that Bradshaw will ever be an upper-carder to me - his new gimmick is just getting over for what will hopefully be one WWE Championship shot.

Bradshaw's new gimmick is a mix of JR from Dallas and Colonel Robert Parker (manager ins WCW & WWF)

WWE Has Big Plans For Bradshaw

Hoss not upset about loss of Faarooq...

Most, including tag team parter Bradshaw, were not too sad to see Ron Simmons get fired from WWE. The general feeling was that his firing was overdue. Bradshaw wasn't upset about the decision to fire Faarooq since WWE is gearing up to give him a huge singles push.

Shit Ed, if I hadn't seen The Torch being credited, I'd've thought that you were making that up based around what you thought/what you thought they thought.

Well, it kind of reflects his gimmick then, doesn't it?

In fact, it exactly reflects his gimmick.

This is a damn good gimmick makeover. Bradshaw went from a one-note face that the fans were utterly tired of, to being a heel that is fascinatingly different from what's on Smackdown today. It's old school, bears resemblance to JR Ewing, and will do nothing but build heel heat.

If he can step up just a little in his ring work (which I'll all but guarantee he will. Bradshaw has shown he's a above average hoss before), he'll make a decent throw away feud with Eddie before moving in to a feud for the US title with John Cena.
