John Hennigan, who used the name "Johnny Blaze" for one week on Raw, is using the name "Johnny Spade" as his wrestling name in WWE. The weird part of this is OVW has a wrestler named Johnny Spade. They are not the same person, and if you go to http://www.ovwrestling.com, you can see them listed separately. My question is why would they do this? I think Johnny Spade sounds okay, but why take the exact name of one of your prospects? WHen he comes up (if he ever makes it), he will have to change his name. OVW has always had guys wrestle and establish a gimmick only to have a new one when they came to WWE, but this is just plain weird.

I actually prefer the name Johnny Blaze, but if they're going with Spade that's fine too. Although it would be pretty funny if they changed the OVW wrestler's name to Johnny Blaze when he's called up.

 

When they first changed it from Blaze to Spade, I figured they might as well make it a gimmick where he changes his name every month or so and always claims he doesn't know what people are talking about when they confront him about it.

 

Mark my words, it would draw.

I assume that the minute after he called himself "Johnny Blaze" the folks are Marvel were on the phone. Comic folks (especially Marvel) are REALLY BIG on defending their trademarks.

"Smooth" Johnny Spade was part of the Revolution. Small guy but great wrestler and pretty good on the microphone too.
