Royce da 5'9

Recommended Posts

I listen to the sample (which was good) they have in the music stores. Im kinda skeptic on buying this album, I have the Rock City album and I thought it was bit of a disappointment. On Rock City kinda expose Royce as just battle rapper and nothing else. Im willing to give him another chance thou, anybody heard his new album? Thoughts?

That's good to hear. Royce's last joint was terrible.

I heard that the producers on this were the same guys who did a lot of beats on Life After Death, if that helps.

I'm a little tentative about buying this too though, I only heard a few songs and I wanted to like them but the only one I was really feeling was Hip Hop, that's my shit right there. I gotta get around to downloading some more songs before I buy it.

I feel bad for Royce though, considering this album looks to be going triple sawdust in sales. Its too bad he had that falling out with Em and Dre or things could've turned out a lot different for him.

Yeah, what was the deal on that? I know D-12 did a diss on him, but I never knew why.

^Royce and D12 are cool now. Royce and Proof got into fight and ended up getting arrested. They made up while they was in jail. I actually took the chance and bought Royce's album, I haven't heard all of it yet but its ok so far. Royce is trying prove that he doesn't need Eminem's help to get himself exposure.

Its a long story. D-12 were Em's boys, so they were beefed with by association.

It started when Royce rubbed Dre the wrong way for some reason. (he was one of the ghostwriters on the 2001 album) So the relationship between Em and Royce cooled off a little, but there wasn't really any beef. Em even appeared on Royce's Rock City album.

But then Royce, whose album didn't do very well, approached Em about being signed, Em told him he wasn't really looking to sign anybody and Shady records didn't have room for any new artists.

About a week later Em signed 50 Cent.

So then Royce was understandably pissed, and D-12 started talking shit. Royce destroyed them on the song Malcolm X, saying shit like "I'll finish your careers faster than Bizarre can finish a biscuit," and shit like that. Than Royce ran into Proof, got into a brawl, and they both ended up locked up. They squashed it while they were in jail together, but Em and Royce still don't want anything to do with each other.

I like the album. Royce didn't try to be commercial on this album. The best tracks to me is:

Regardless

Throwback

I Promise

Hip Hop

Death is Certain

T.O.D.A.Y.

I think he was taking some shots at Em, and dissed 50 on one track. Overall, its a Solid album worth a pickup.

shits a little more than solid to me. This is one hot ass album.

Regardless, Throwback, Hip Hop, Death is Certan pt 2, everybody goes, bomb 1st, Somethings Wrong with Him...all those tracks are incredible to me.

See, thats what I need to see more of. Someone thats not afraid to be angry for a entire CD, spit what they feel and be real with it.

*takes out Tootsie Roll Pop*

That shit is the shit.

^Yea, I like angry side of Royce. I think he still was taking some shots at Em thou, I think he was implying about Em's ex wife with that "Who's wife is sniffin" line on "Regardless." That 50 swinging from 2pac's nuts was a funny line as well.

you know, all the comments about Slim didn't seem to be disses. He mentions it, but more in the I have moved on type of thing.

The 50 percent of niggas hanging from Pacs balls though...that wasn't...that was a diss.

This album is grand. I think it will be a commercial failure, but it's great artistically. He's being honest, but that stuff doesn't sell unless you're Jay-Z or Eminem. I think I'll actually spend money on this CD.

From some of the lyrics, you can tell that he knew the album wouldn't really sell. Especially in Whats Wrong with Him. He basically acknoledged that the vibe of the album wouldn't allow it to sell.

Something's Wrong With Him is my favorite song on here. I think this is my my favorite album to come out in a while. I forget which song it was where he said that no one can be held accountable for your career but yourself, but I can understand that. Until this album I wrote this guy off as garbage. I think one of the low points of his career had to be that god awful sell out shit that he had on the GTA 3 soundtrack. It's hard for me to remember that he's the same guy that made this incredible album.

Hold your Career accountable yourself line, is from T.O.D.A.Y

My favorite is Death is Certain pt 2, I thought "Something wrong with him" was ok, not a stand out track IMO.

I'm betting you that you will eventually. This seems like one of those albums where you like certain songs at first alot, but the ones that you overlooked grow on you after you give them a chance. I can relate to the song because I've had a bit of a chip on my shoulder for reasosn I won't discuss here and due to new developments, it's only gotten bigger.

I listen to that song more than any of them on the album. I love that track. But I can only listen to it right after listening to Death is Certain II.

But he should Drop "Throwback" as his next video and "I and Me" as the cheap, come out quickly video. Something with him footage of him in the studio with tour footage.

I WANT to see this album sell. I am sick of listening to this on the bus and people hearing some of Throwback and ask "Who is that" And not knowing WHO the fuck I am talking about when they hear it.

In all seriousness, I think this is the best album I have heard this year...and that is saying something with my fickle ass.
