Confidential shows why Angle shouldn't do comedy

Tonight on a rerun of Confidential, they did the top moments on Smackdown, and on that, they showed one of the better Austin/Angle skits (As well as one of the more hideously unfunny Angle/Edge skits).

The Austin/Angle period was, IMO, the absolute height of comedy for Austin, Angle, and probably the WWF. They had great chemistry together, and for the most part, were absolutely hilarious.

However, the one side effect is that nothing either one of them ever do will be as funny, so I don't think it's even worth trying. It will just come off as something less than what Angle is capable of.

Obviously, the Cena and Edge feuds were just such so horrendously written that nothing could ever make them funny, but I do think that if Angle/Austin had never happened, some of Kurt's other stuff would have made me laugh.

Anyone agree?

I didn't like Angle and Angle competing for hugs from Vince...

Neither did I. It was weird seeing Kurt Angle and Eric Angle competing for hugs from Vince.

What do you mean that didn't happen? How else could Angle and Angle compete for hugs from Vince?

 They're the Angle family.

OK back to the real world, I agree the skits were pretty funny, especially the little cowboy hat Angle wore for 2 weeks.

Oh, come on.

Angle and Austin blaming Debra for Vince leaving was funnier than the watch bit.

And there was alot of Austin/Angle that was better than that skit.

The greatest was the interogation scene between Austin and RVD...

It'd be alright if they showed Confidential down here - fluff show or not, it has some pretty interesting segments.

Not including most those aforementioned.

Nah, not really the watch segment in particular. Just in general, I found the RVD/Austin interacting funnier.

What else did they do togther?

I'm shocked that you didn't defend the Angle/Edge "comedy" as funny.

The Austin Introgation segment with RVD outdid nearly everything Angle/Austin did.

Absolutely not. It was kind of funny, but I can name about six funnier Angle/Austin skits.

I actually got that one on my computer. Good times.

I thought it was funny, in a lame way. No way am I getting in a huge arguement with you about Angle/Edge, again.

I guess they should stop making all comedy shows because nothing will ever be as funny as sitcoms of the past.

NFL? Stop trying! The Dolphins in 1972 were perfect, so no one else can be better than perfect.

Apples and Oranges.

What I'm saying is closer to an aging sports star who has more or less lost his skills embarassing himself and his legacy by going out there and sucking.

I was just watching the Austin Appreciation Night deal (with the Angle milktruck ambush) as an extra on my Summerslam 2001 DVD. Funny, funny shit. As bad as the Alliance angle was, heel Austin and everything revolving around him was just so funny to me. It might of not drawn money but it was great. Watching Austin trying not to crack up as the whole roster sways back and forth "we are the world" style singing "Wind Beneath My Wings" to him is gold. JR's solo commentarry is hilarious too ("choking sound Pepto....JR needs some Pepto please!") They also show what happens after RAW goes off the air, and Angle sprays them down a few more times and then Austin gets the mic and says "The Alliance is never coming back here again!" and the crowd cheers, so he goes "On second thought, just because you don't want us to, the Alliance WILL come back!"

Yeah, imbalanced/insecure heel Austin and Hollywood obnoxious Rock are tied for the most entertaining WWE characters ever. I would cherish a DVD with just all of Austin's segments from the night after WMX7 to Survivor Series 01 and Rock's segments from Feb to April 03.

Eh, the milk truck wasn't even as good as the early stuff.

The Angle/Show feud was funny. Remember Angle giving out condoms to college students?

I still like the rap off between Cena and Angle. Funny stuff.

The only funny thing about that was Angle dressed almost exactly like a stupid friend of mine. I couldn't help but bust out laughing.

Yeah, the Austin Appreciation Night was so bad it was great.

Also, pretty much every PPV in 2001 was awesome.

Rumble, NWO, WM, Backlash, Summerslam, No Mercy--all great shows.

JD and Unforgiven was okay--but while not that good it wasn't terrible like a lot of PPVs we see these days. Kronik/BoD was comedy, though.

King of the Ring sucked, but that's the way it usually is. I have absolutely no desire to see SurSer2001, though.

The horribleness of the typical weekly show really hurt the WWF, though.

The Milk Truck, still one of my favorite moments of all time.

When was it anyways? Obviously during the Angle/Austin feud, but what month

The night after Summerslam, so August. Slam was also the PPV just before Unforgiven, which followed 9-11....

Edge tricking Angle into holding those signs was funny.

That's all I got.

Not in the least.

They had a funny rap off? They had THREE rap offs? Because I remember two, one horrendous one in July and one that was even worse in October.
