Were some shows just promoted horribly and others very well? I mean Starcade '98 with a 1.1 to Souled Out the next month with a .25 and Superbrawl after that with a .15? Slamboree '97 with a .44? Wasn't WCW at its hottest at this point, with the whole nWo angle and kicking the WWF's ass?
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 Starrcade 1998 had Goldberg's biggest challenge on ppv, Flair/Bischoff, and ummm . . . I can't remember anything else about it. Souled Out's 2 big marquee matches were Goldberg/Hall in a meaningless match along with the Flairs vs. Hennig/Windham. Their Nitros spoiled the viewers so there was nothing they could offer the ppv audience that they weren't seeing on Monday and Thursday every week. ECW had the same problem. Wasn't WCW at its hottest at this point, with the whole nWo angle and kicking the WWF's ass? I think Souled Out and Superbrawl are way off. Prowrestlinghistory.com gives Souled Out a .78 and Superbrawl a 1.10. For 97, well GAB, Slamboree, and Spring Stampede didn't have Hogan on them. That's why they're so low. Hogan was the world champ, but he was gone making movies. He went something like 6 or 7 months without defending the title ONE single time. Fucking idiots. Is it any wonder they couldn't stay on top? chaosrage 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 BTW, here's what headlined all the PPVs that drew in the .1-.3 range. Greed '01 0.10 - Scott Steiner vs DDP, Booker T vs Rick Steiner, Rhodes vs Flair & Jarrett Sin '01 0.17 - Scott Steiner vs Sid vs Jarrett vs Mystery man, Luger & Bagwell vs Goldberg & Dwayne Bruce (?) I seriously doubt Hogan in 99 drew worse than every ECW PPV. (their lowest was a .2)
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 Starrcade 1998 had Goldberg's biggest challenge on ppv, Flair/Bischoff, and ummm . . . I can't remember anything else about it. The Giant vs Diamond Dallas Page was one of the featured bouts as well. It was surprisingly decent, thanks of course to DDP. Also the two openers: Juvi vs Rey vs Kidman and then Kidman vs Eddie G. (Eddie threw a spat when neither Juvi or Rey could beat Kidman, so Kidman challenged him to do any better...which he didn't ). Those two cruiser matches are just about two of the hottest, most exciting openers to a PPV I had seen at the time. Awesome stuff. The rest of the show was total donkey balls.
