Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Whoever made the comment about golf has obvisiously never played it. The guys courses are much longer than the womens, they do not have the strength, with rare exceptions to compete. Its not just the length either, the grass in the rough is longer, this means you must be stronger to get the right club speed to get the ball out. The sand traps are placed in harder spots, and are deeper, once again wrist strength and club speed eliminate most women. I have no problem with a woman competing as long as she is as good as the men. What I do not want is a woman to compete who is not as good as the men, and then for the media to act like she is as good or better than the men. ...okay... I actually DO play golf, and yes, the women play the SAME COURSES as the guys for the vast majority of the time. Sure, they don't play Augusta, but for the most part, women play the same game as men. That's why Annika Sorenstam/Michelle Wie have transitioned relatively fine. It's a difference in distance, yes, but that's basically the ONLY difference. If a woman has the length in her game to drive alongside the boys, there's nothing stopping her (strength, for example) from competing.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Whoever made the comment about golf has obvisiously never played it... So if a male golf course was to host a female event they'd have to let the grass grow and move the sandtraps around? I'm actually cruious about this now. In addition, does the water in the lake have to be shallow, too?...
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 "Male" courses routinely host women's events, case in point the events that happen in Myrtle Beach, SC. It's not like these courses are exclusively male (with, again, the notable exception of Augusta).
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Well they had the college dunk contest and it was won by Andre Emmet of Texas Tech.....and he was like 10x better than this girl that won.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 I loved the announcer when I saw the highlights of this: "Oh, a ONE-HANDED dunk!!!" And Carmelo only won because Amare missed his last dunk. Vince Carter is also a former McD's dunk champ.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Just because I didn't get a chance to comment on it during allstar weekend, Jason Richardson should have won just for the dunks he was trying. The guy caught the ball off the backboard and went in between his legs for what is probably the greatest dunk I have ever seen. The 360 between his legs he was trying was gourgeous to watch, even though he missed it. And that 360, elbow in the rim dunk he tried last....good god. Put this guy out there every year and it will be the shit. And Chris Andersen disproved the "white guy gets extra points" theory, because he got ROBBED. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Guess what guys, they do let the grass grow out for the men. Next question. Also Annika did not make the transition well, did you read my post. She did not make the cut, what do you not understand about that. She played a course suited for her, short, and still did not make the cut. She did not make the cut. She did not make the cut. Also if you know anything about golf you also know they change the pin placements, and where the sand traps are. I seriously know you know jack shit about golf if you do not know how easy this is. Next.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 2, 2004 What I found very empowering was that woman judge I saw in the clip of this dunk giving the effort a "10." You go girl... When Matt Groening rips on your sport in "Futurama" --- you have got a pretty crappy sport. -=Mike

Thats like saying If Kobe went 0-20 and everyone else in the league got a better shooting percentage that night, he isn't fit to be in the NBA with all the other Basketball players. Bullshit. And as cute as the NEXT thing is, seeing as I said I know shit about the "sport". I still do have the common sense to know that one performance doesn't speak to ones ability. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 But he said she made the transition when the facts point out that she did not, as in the tournament she played she did not make the cut. How can one say she made the transition when in the one tournament she played she sucked. I have facts on my side, he is just blindly stating opinion without any facts. Name me a mens tournament she placed highly in and I will concede. I did not say that there will never be a woman that will be able to compete with the men, maybe Wie will be able to. But do not try to sell me on something that is not ready yet.

Thing is --- she is the best women's player out there --- and she finished WAY down low. What was she, 120th in the field? Or, in other words, the best women's player isn't in the same league as the top 100 male golf players. Women's sports, by and large, aren't as good as men's sports. A male tennis player would likely blow one of the Williams sisters off the court (though I actually prefer women's tennis). A WNBA team couldn't beat too many college men's teams. I got no problem with women's sports --- but when they give women such a ridiculous curve when they compete with men, it is simply condescending to the women (her "victory" in the slam dunk contest is the athletic equivalent of "He speaks so well"). -=Mike ...When the biggest accomplishment women have over men athletically is still Billy Jean King beating Bobby Riggs in tennis, you have a problem
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 7, 2004 Maybe the numbers say differently, but when I watch a women's game I see more "What the fuck was THAT?" moments than in men's games. Now, looking at the stats of a random, run-of-the-mill WNBA team versus a similar NBA team: Seattle Storm (18-16, .529 pct, 5th out of 7 Western teams) In 40 minute games, the Storm averaged... 13.5 turnovers 16.8 fouls 66.9 points 7.2 steals 13.4 assists 74.6% FTs 33.2% 3pt 41.4% FGs Seattle Supersonics (35-42, .455 pct, 11th out of 14 Western teams) In 48 minute games, the Sonics are averaging... 14.7 turnovers 20.5 fouls 97.5 points 7.8 steals 21 assists 77.1% FTs 34.6% 3pt 44.8% FGs
