Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 2, 2004 My opinion on gay marriage: I don't give a shit, I thik the legislators did the right thing in making a comprimise. But, I was at the State House for the 2nd of the Con Cons. I'm interning for a state senator (a Democrat, but you have to do what you have to do to graduate college). It was rather interesting. I saw such enlightend signs as "Homosexuals are possesed by demons" and of course the old faithful "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve." As I went down to the 4th floor to grab a Coke I heard a stirring redition of "God Bless America" from the gay marriege proponents. It was like walking into a bizzaro world, where tolerance for other's differences fell back to about 1800 and liberals sang patriotic music. I also recieved many, many, many phone calls. One that sticks out is from a woman named Olive who informed me that "all homosexuals should be in mental hospitals" and that "we have to stop this before we're all queer" as well as the typical "we're treated as second class citezens" pap. I've never talked to so many lesbians in my life. And the ones I saw were definately not of the lipstick variety. There's no particular point to this story but I thought I'd share it with you for lack of anythign better to do with my time right now. Did you tell Olive that "This is the government and we don't care what you think, bee-yotch!"? What's she going to do, tell on somebody who doesn't give their real name on the phone (you DON'T give your real name to those nutbars, do you?) Did she sound hot, BTW? You probably could've hit it. -=Mike ...Doesn't really have the passion for the topic and lacks the energy to fake it

I think I told her my first name but I work for a Senator, who's name she definately knows. If I said anythign to piss her off and she complained, I'd get fired and I wouldn't graduate in May. I don't wan that. I've had to sit and listen to a whole lot of ignorance on the phone and keep my opinion ot my self. "My sister is 17 and has three kids and can't get enough food stamps to feed them." What I'd like to say is, "maybe your little shore of a sister should have thought about that and shut her fucking legs before this became a problem." Instead I say, "OK, can I have your name adn adress.... Thank you, I will forward your message to teh senator." It's pretty mindnumbing at points. I was told to do research for the "bicyclist's bill of rights" bill that is pending. Why they need one is beyond me, but I kept my mouth shut and did it. Graduation calls. Try belching constantly into the phone. I was actually forbidden from answering the phone when I did my intern work (The Rep was a family friend, so he wasn't going to fire me). I handled the mail --- and if you think the callers were psychos... MA is actually doing a bicyclist's bill of rights? What, they're going to ignore the unicycling community? -=Mike

What, they're going to ignore the unicycling community? -=Mike No, just try to punish those who dare drive cars by allowing and promoting cicylists to ride on just about every street in the Commonwealth. There are really people who think that bikes are a real means of transportation adn as such should be treated as thought hey are cars. Part of the bill actually says that bikes should allowed to ride in the middel of teh fuckign street if it "is not safe to ride on the side." I lived in possibly the most fucked up state this side of California.

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Wait, so despite having bike lanes, bikers still want to use the road? Now I could understand the problem for roads without bike lanes, but if they still want to use the road even though it has a bike lane, then I can understand the problem. How come motorists aren't complaining that they are forbidden to drive on the sidewalk?...

I don't mind people riding bikes, but many of them, in my experiences, don't obey any of the laws of the road... We really don't have very many, if any bike lines. Shit, we hardly have proper car lanes and the ones we do no one pays attention to anyway. You've obvioulsy never been to Boston. Here orange lights cause everybosy to speed up and crosswalks and "walk" lights don't mean anything. People just walk into the street, sometimes without looking and using the crosswalk is possibly more dangerous than jaywalking. My dad got hit by a car years ago while in a crosswalk and with the light. It's totally different here than any other big city I've been too (NYC, Chicago, Indianapolis, Montreal, Toronto, etc...). There's no rhyme or reasonto the lay out of the streets so there is no rhyme or reason to the way pedestrians move. All the roads are undersized and we have endless contruction, no all the "Big Dig" either. Bike lanes would just further narrow the streets and cause more problems. What the bill should say is, "get a fucking car or take the "T" (subway) like normal people do, you freaky tree huggers!" But, alas this is Mass. do we have to accomodate the very small minority (bicyclists) even if it means negatively affecting the super-majority (drivers). Hell, especially if it means affecting drivers. Those people are evil, they pollute the environment and run over peaceful, nonpoluting, MassPIRG endorsing, tree hugging bicyclists. Like I said, this state is fucked up beyond words. BTW, teh same woman who wrote this bill also wrote another that would allocate funds to put in more crosswalks among other things. She's from a town called Belmont. Belmont is an upper-middle class suburb of Boston, with so many crosswalks and so many cops on crosswalk duty that it is impossible to drive through the 1/4 mile long center of town in less than 10 minutes. You come to the outskirts of the center and have to stop for some bitch with her kid in a stroller and then 20 feet later you have to stop for an 80 year old couple to waddle, very slowly across the street and again 20 feet later for more of the funa dn excitmetn that is watchign people cross the street when they could easily be funneled into hald as many croswalks and be taught to wait until traffic lightens or some schmuck stops to let them cross. Some Guy 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2004 ummm, did you get ran over by a bicycle as a child? No, but I've nearly hit several of them who think that they can ride as fast as I am driving and cut in front of me without warning and I was alomst hit by one in Boston the other day. He ran a red light. Actually some person of relative prominence in Boston (I;m told he is anyway) was hit and put into a coma by some bicyclist who sped around a corner on the sidewalk.
