Dandy 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Okay, Eugene has officially debuted now. And as you know, most characters evolve over the years, especially if they move up the card toward main event. Triple H changed drastically from blue blood snob to degenerate to evil bad guy to high-class elitist. It may not have been very believable to segue from character to character like that, but surely it has to be easier than what lies ahead for Nick Dinsmore. How do you change up a retarded character? You can't exactly just say he's not retarded anymore. The only thing I thought of that could make sense would be for Eugene to get hurt pretty bad at some point and have Nick Dinsmore be his brother that comes for revenge. However, Eugene would have to stay gone forever for that to happen. I know we shouldn't try to think logically about the WWE booking, but Dinsmore has been pigeon-holed into this character with little option to move on. Any thoughts? Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 6, 2004 You're right, it seems as if WWE think that getting him over as quickly as possible is more important than the long-term. In films a lot, you see a lot of crazy and zany characters start to calm down a bit, ending up being sensible in the end - but you know that a bad job has been done if you're shocked with the transition. Maybe this will happen for Eugene. Of course, I haven't seen Nick Dinsmore as Eugene yet, so I may be way off the mark, so until I do, that's my 2c.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 i still want to say that's a gimmick similiar to Waylon Mercy in that what he is outside of the ring is completely different to his in-ring self...and that he turns into a wrestling machine when he climbs through the ropes. Scroby 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I'm just glad Regal is managing him. Regal might be the only man who could save this before we see Dinsmore have a match with this gimmick.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 OR, Regal gets Eugene medication to "help" him become "normal", and then after Eugene becomes normal Regal realizes that he misses the old Eugene and the innocence that he represented. Regal begins to look deep inside himself and sees that what he imposed on Eugene - this "cure", this "medication" - was really his way of getting back at all those who told him that his English accent and heritage would be a detriment to him and the persecution that followed in the WWE. Regal realizes that Eugene was actually only "different", just like he is in the WWE, and that they had a unspoken bond between them. Regal tries to take the medication away from Eugene, however Evil Uncle Eric likes the new Eugene and refuses to stop the dosages.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Yes, and then -finally- Eugene is confronted with a choice that would effect his life forever. He has the choice to stay "normal" or go back to being "simple". Regal tries to pursuade him with a video montage of all the great 'old' Eugene moments and the show closes with a tear rolling down Eugenes face (as if to say that the old Eugene is still "in there" but cannot "get out"). He needs some time to think about it, so he goes away for 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks Regal gets beat up by Bischoffs thugs and on the 3rd week Regal comes out, beaten and bruised and says "come on, get it over with Bischoff... get your thugs out here and let's do this...", so as the thugs start to beat up Regal, Euguenes music hits ("Oh no, it looks like Eugene has made his voice, oh poor William Regal") but then he takes out the thugs instead and smiles his goofy smile and is "back".... OR IS HE?!
justcoz 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 They can go a number of different directions with the character. Regal can take advantage of his disability and make him a sadistic terror that wrecks havoc on RAW to Bischoff's dismay. Or like the Amazing Rando said, he can be in this character and transform into a total wrestling machine with Regal's guidence. I personally see them staying with the comedy aspect. Apparently part of his act, based on the Bushwacker bit tonight, will be bringing up past names and mimicking them. Dinsmore is talented enough to copy different wrestler's movesets, so let him think he's the Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, a Moondog, Hogan, Mankind, etc. Even Doink The Clown or the Iron Sheik. All the way down to his ring attire, ring intros and movesets within a match. It's been done previously to an extent with Goldust and the Big Show but not to the point where the wrestling movesets were copied to perfection like Dinsmore could probably do. If they went with the above scenario they could even gradually turn the character into a smark, I was hoping to see more of this tonight and was disappointed. I wanted more Dustin Hoffman/Rainman than Farley Brothers type characterization. He could be mentally slow but a huge wrestling history buff who annoys Regal by always bringing up wrestling facts. Sort of like how Rainman was with math and numbers. That would also work nicely with him actually being a competent wrestler who comes to the ring as this buffoon. Guest Steel_Fury Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Evolution can "evolve" his character by electrocution. Undertaker can hit him with a lightning bolt. The WWE can ignore his "special" past. He could become an evil genius, ala 'Lawnmower Man' He could read about the wrestling business and "smarten up"

Guest JMA Report post Posted April 6, 2004 just have it all be an act Would Bischoff be in on it? They would have to go that route since it is his nephew and he would know of his mental capacity before his debut. I think it would make sense. They could have Dinsmore be a Bischoff lackey who was told to act like a retard to get RAW good ratings (because of the shock value). Kind of like how Howard Stern does with guys like Crackhead Bob and Beetlejuice. It would fit Bischoff's character; that of an egomaniacal boss who only cares about ratings. If Nick Dinsmore ever changes his character a year or more down the line, they have to come up with a believable reason. The character would more than likely just evolve gradually. Especially if they go the route of having him be a really good wrestler in the ring despite the gimmick. There wouldn't be a storyline explanation. They would probably just have him play a little crazy rather than mentally retarded. That's why I think they should go the way of being a wrestling facts buff. He could go into the announce booth and just spit out random stuff like King Kong Bundy beat SD Jones in 9 seconds at the first Wrestlemania, Bret Hart was the excellence of execution and won his first WWE title against Ric Flair. Paul Roma was a Horsemen. They could gradually turn that quirk into him being "Mr. Wrestling" Eugene Dinsmore. A ring technician and wrestling history buff. If they did any explanation at all, it could easily be he's medicated. They never explained when Edge and Christian stopped being vampires, how Mankind went from the boiler room to a children's book author, why the Undertaker went from satan to a biker, etc. LISTEN TO THE PITTSBURGH MUSIC SCENE AND MORE
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 6, 2004 but where's the motivation for using his Nephew? We gotta develop a backstory to why Poor Nick/Eugene is FORCED to be a retard? Might as well keep him as his nephew because you can go a long way with that aspect.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I wasn't around for when Kane got unmasked, what is the deal with his no scars? it was all PYSCHOLOGICAL. He was never burned...he just believed he was...and apprently Paul lied to him so he could manipulate him to destroy Undertaker and thus failing...he left...Kane all by himself...Kane realizing that he wasn't really burned became a monster until SUPERMCMAHON saved the world. Guest JMA Report post Posted April 6, 2004 They never explained when Edge and Christian stopped being vampires, how Mankind went from the boiler room to a children's book author, why the Undertaker went from satan to a biker, etc. Edge explained that it was "character development." Mick Foley (the character) is quite insane and has created multiple personalities; the "normal" Mick is simply an amalgam of these characters. The Undertaker one is tricky, though.
